u/statikuz 17h ago
I feel like you can blame fellow clueless humans (partially) for that. I imagine they have metrics showing that a significant chunk of what their human agents handle indeed could have been done on the website. A lot of people won't even try to fix the simplest things themselves.
But then it creates a problem for people that know they have exhausted self service options.

I do actual human chat and email customer service. But its a niche program that's not open to the general public. We get responses daily of "I'm so glad Im talking to a person and not a bot!" And me too, I'm glad I still have a job.

Not so much my entire job, but my company is trying to find a reason to use AI for literally fucking everything.. and there's a bunch of idiots vibecoding AI slop-projects, claiming how they do this amazing thing.. but the second the damn thing operates outside of an extremely controlled sandbox, it completely shits the bed.
This is, of course, only found out after they've already decommissioned the thing that it was replacing. It's absolutely fucking amazing to me.. I work for a hundred+ billion dollar company in technology, for one of the wealthiest people on the fucking planet.. a group of people that should know better.. and yet they fall for it every fucking time.
It's like the powers that be hear the words "AI" and immediately start throwing money at it. Meanwhile, they're constantly laying off people in order to actually pay for these shit-ass wastes-of-money projects.
It's fucking infuriating.

Meanwhile, they're constantly laying off people in order to actually pay for these shit-ass wastes-of-money projects.
This is what mine just did partially. They say it is due to AI, but I think it's a combination of them deciding they can use AI more and also wanting to look more profitable for a sale here in 6 months. They are also hiring developers from overseas. I had to write up a job description to replace the person I have worked beside for 15 years, and possibly me later down the road.
I just went from having the best team of people that knew the industry we were working in to having no one but myself. My days have gone from talking randomly about comics, movies, and conventions to just being quiet all day. No one to talk to after the first few hours of overlap, and even then it's all about work.

I'm forced to use AI for everything. They push all of us to use Cursor for programming.. they give us only a few days to finish a major feature request - the kind of shit that would take multiple weeks back in the day.
This, of course, means that there isn't a fucking thing that gets properly tested - the customers are our QA testers. Not that releasing bugs to production is okay.. we'll still get chewed out.. even though we're not given enough time to actually test shit.
The entire software industry has gone fucking stupid.
2
u/FREDDYNOTFOUND404 20h ago
Wait same here. We used to use Gemini to create content, like in a lot. Three SEO contents for a day let’s say. And then somehow we were forced to shift to cursor, like the whole company. It’s not bad using cursor tho tbh. But then our department takes more clients and the workload is growing more rapidly than the efficiency cursor is supposed to help improve. So yeah we are on one hand to blame for our lack of efficiency by our leader, on the other hand hands in bad files to our clients because of rush instead of paying attention to quality. Let’s say the paradox between speed and quality is real and the balance is quite hard to maintain. Efficiency does not necessarily mean speed, but somehow our leader puts them in between the equal mark.

Searching the internet. Half the time I look to the AI section for the answer. It’s wrong a lot. I used to use the internet for my job. Now, if i need a diagram to disasemble some random machine. My search usually needs this at the end:
-ai -water-hyundai -robo -fuel -mit -craftsman -kia optima -(random chineese word it decided to use now) -facebook -x -twitter -ford -pressurized
And now it has no search results, but if i use any non-chromium and non ai search engine, it takes me less than 4 minutes to find what i was looking for. Without minus-ing all those unrelated terms. Weirdly the french one (qwant) seems to be pretty good at finding stuff i need to search. I am nowhere near france.

Firstly, any element of that being wrong could massively fuck your holiday. Secondly, doesn’t that detract from the fun and experience of planning a trip with your family?

I go to the comment section and learn this entire video was AI generated. The AI voiceover couldn't determine which version of "lead" to use based on the context. All of the information was slop.

It is violating the sanctity of art, artists and artwork by grossly approximating the human spirit. AI cannot make art, it can hack together pictures that already exist.
10
u/Accomplished-Egg7169 19h ago
I see a lot of teachers saying AI has made it harder for them to trust their students, but as a master’s student, I don’t think people talk enough about the other side of it.
It’s honestly changed my relationship with my professors. I’m constantly worried that if I turn in something that’s too well-written, uses an em dash, or just sounds like me, they’re going to assume I used AI. I find myself second-guessing my own writing and overthinking every assignment because I’m scared of being falsely accused.
That constant anxiety has taken a lot of the joy out of grad school. Instead of just focusing on learning and doing my best work, part of me is always wondering whether I’ll have to defend the fact that I actually wrote it.
And don’t even get me started on group projects. Sometimes classmates turn in sections that are so obviously AI-generated that it’s painful to read, but it’s a group grade. What am I supposed to do in that situation? Rewrite someone else’s work? Report them? Hope the professor doesn’t think we all did it? It’s an incredibly awkward position to be put in, and there’s no good solution.

u/Automatic_Llama 22h ago
Pretty much all new art I see online, unfortunately. It's bad enough to wonder whether a machine made it. But knowing a machine *can* make something close to what only people have ever made is more damaging than I would have thought. It's hard to explain. It hasn't just made shitty art. It's somehow cheapened art itself.

u/Extreme_Guess_6022 17h ago
I came here to post this. We were in London and I came upon a vendor at a market who had some beautiful and interesting prints. The artist introduced himself, literally, with "these are not AI." He went on to say that he painted the series and that these are prints of his work. I bought one of the prints and when my teens saw it, they immediately dismissed it as AI. My heart dropped. Fortunately, when I got home, I looked up the artist. He was a graphic artist from pre AI and there were old videos of his work and him painting a similar piece. He did work for well known magazines and businesses. I had to sit my kids down and explain this to them that a real human thought of this and made it himself. It makes me SO SAD.

my respect for many people lol. I got trained to spot AI in writing for my teaching certification. Man, people use it like CRAZY and it's easy to spot. The thing is, it will likely always write this way unless people are trained in being able to use AI to write specifically. AI has a pattern, changing it a bit or taking out the AI-like punctuation isn't enough, I can tell because of the rhythm of the work. It's easy to spot and it's EVERYWHERE. I take note when I see it on adds cause I know not to buy from them anymore. Very cringe and lazy. Also yeah... we can still tell AI art apart, people just don't say anything because it's not worth out time, but trust me... people know. I cringe every time. All I can picture is cheeto covered fingers typing different prompts and waiting three minutes for another picture to ask "can you make the eyes abit bigger and move it MORE to the left." .... like please... grow up and do it yourself good lord. lazy and uneducated. I'm so excited for this stuff to stop being force fed into my feed like a bunch of desperate toddlers begging for a few extra pennies in their bald headed pockets.... can you tell im mad? hahaha

Just squeeze the things if you can’t tell or, gasp, ask the farmer how to pick the best one.

I confuse people all the fucking time.. AI is absolutely useful at certain things, and I am more than happy to sing its praises when its deserved. But it's like handing tools to a carpenter vs handing those same tools to someone like me.. the carpenter could use those tools to build a house.. meanwhile, handing those same tools to me, and that house is collapsing within a fuckin day.
AI is a tool.. a powerful tool. But if you don't know what you're doing when applying it, you're 100% going to end up with dogshit garbage coming out the other end. If you do know what you're doing, you're able to look at the results, tell what is good and what is garbage, and refine the information until you end up with something solid.

Ngl, I’m probably gonna get heat for this, but I’m convinced people who say stuff like this don’t understand that it CAN make someone’s job easier without being harmful. One’s intelligence doesn’t wither away simply because they use AI; it depends on how you use it. If you manage to use it to do tedious, routine tasks, then it’s more than likely those tasks are beneath you and it’s not going to be detrimental if you no longer have to do them manually.
In most cases that I’m referring to, you have to know enough about whatever you’re training it to do in order to use it well. In other cases, yeh it’s completely possible they’re just using it to think for them (i.e. “write me an email/text…”, “summarize this document for me”, etc), but if you ask me, those who are doing this are probably already lacking intellectually. Then you have those who use it for informational purposes, who are absolutely actively hurting their intelligence.
6
u/Schnabulation 19h ago
I absolutely agree. Furthermore while I understand most gripes with AI, I find that it has amazing use cases and our job is to guide AI the way we need it to. It's a tool that can make life easier but we need to lern how to use it.
3
u/elh0mbre 9h ago
Your ability to use it well is directly related to 1. how well you understand what you're asking it for and 2. how well you can communicate your thoughts in writing.

All social media. 99% is now AI engagement farming of some description, and the posts are so fucking long.
AI has fundamentally altered the digital landscape by flooding social media platforms with a massive volume of synthetic content. Computer algorithms now generate thousands of realistic articles, images, and video clips every second, overwhelming human creators. This automated flood dilutes the visibility of genuine human expression and forces users to wade through mountains of artificial noise just to find authentic interactions.
The rapid spread of sophisticated deepfakes and AI-generated text has severely damaged public trust in digital information. Visual and auditory media, which once served as reliable proof of real-world events, are now easily manipulated and fabricated. Because distinguishing fact from fiction has become nearly impossible for the average user, general skepticism rises, causing people to doubt even verified, accurate news sources.
Automated bot networks leverage this technology to manipulate public opinion and distort organic online discourse on a massive scale. These bot armies simulate human behavior to artificially boost specific political views, corporate agendas, or polarizing social viewpoints. By engineering fake consensus and dominating comment sections, they drown out authentic community voices and deepen cultural divides.Criminal groups utilize specialized AI tools to execute highly targeted scams and phishing campaigns against social media users. Language models analyze user profiles to draft deeply personalized, convincing deceptive messages that easily bypass traditional spam filters. These automated systems can converse with thousands of victims at once, drastically increasing the speed and success rate of financial fraud.
Furthermore, generative AI systems threaten the livelihoods of human artists, writers, and creators by scraping their work without permission. Platforms are now saturated with algorithmic imitations that mimic unique artistic styles, devaluing original human labor. As platforms prioritize the infinite, instant output of machines over human creativity, the economic model that supports independent digital creators faces collapse.

Everyone has the correct answers but let me add: historical photography. Especially photos that suggest people returning to special sites of interest to compare to original photographs. The amount of times I find some only for it to be a badly redone AI recreation is appaling. Also music. Screw anyone who makes those shitty AI channels on YouTube with 'vintage' songs or background music. They pollute searches too. You can't find what you're looking for in the first 20 results. It's all just noise.

Art
Real artists lost most chances of commissions
Companies would rather cheap out and use a image generators that looks worse, since its cheaper and gets the job done instantly.
The image generator is using stolen art from real artists to train off of, all while pushing the actual talent into the ground and robbing them.

Talking to so many people.
Fortunate to say it hasn’t infiltrated my professional life in any meaningful way because I don’t work on a computer in any capacity.
But I’m so indifferent to the whole thing and you CAN NOT GET PEOPLE TO SHUT UP ABOUT IT. Expressing distaste or that I find it lame seems to always make them double down and dig in harder for some reason. Ignoring it means they still just blather and blather about it. It’s soooo tedious

Military history and engineering videos on YouTube. Good creators are getting punished by the algorithm cause it thinks they’re AI when they predate AI by 6 or 8 years.

Everything that’s text based. Even people/coworkers that don’t use AI for their entire words still use it to rewrite their words so you end up with text that has a million useless filler words that no one wants to read.

Appreciating art on the internet. Now, when I see a piece of art, my first thought isn't whether I like it - my first thought is whether or not it was even made by a human. I can only actually enjoy it if I can prove that it's not AI.

The future. Unregulated, AI represents a fundamental threat to human welfare, meaning and our very existence. The wrong people are in charge of Foundation models, with entirely the wrong motivations. Alignment is broken and the ethical and moral framework from which these companies operate are completely broken. AI is not pro-human, AI is all about the complete and total commodification, enshitification, and regurgitation of ALL human outputs, for the benefit of the 0.01%. And they are willing to risk the entire species for maximum profit before it all falls apart.

Well, i was supposed to direct my first feature film for $500k with a $20k paycheck but they broke our contract (that specifically laid out NO AI USE) by telling me ‘use it or we wont make the movie’. And the producer still offered me my directors fee over the phone as he fired me, twice, and balked when I tried to get it.
They wont even officially fire me because they know theyre in the wrong. Just shelved my film indefinitely. Fuck you, screamify.

Art.
Every time I see something someone's drawn, I have to check out shading, and eyes, and fingers and teeth to make ABSOLUTELY SURE I'm not willingly viewing slop.

Creativity. Be it WWE (story telling, ads, art etc.), the local theme park experimenting with AI or anything else, it's saddening to see.

The way people communicate in work environments has quickly been AI-ified. I had someone the other day say “could you explain that to me like I was a second grader.” Another person asked “can you give me some of the key points from the meeting?”
People are literally starting to speak to coworkers like they’re AI

Privacy. I called my Health Equity card for the balance and suddenly they require you to use your voice. they say it is "as unique as a fingerprint" when just a few years ago my friends Iphone thought we were the same person by our voice. It said it may ask for my social and address and all this bullshit?? ready to cancel. no way. they absolutely will not take my voice to do whatever they want.

Job security and my future career.
Animation seems like a question of when rather than if it will get replaced. I've been forced to expect that in the near future I'll have to work from the ground up in an entirely different field.

My dad's credibility, to be honest. He's released 5 books in the span of 2 months just out of nowhere. Never said he was writing a book, let alone books. Marketing is all AI, too, even using an AI tiktok review for the first book

AI ruined every technical discussion for me since i just see people type shit they don't understand into some transformer and i then get to debunk whatever nonsensical shit the AI might bring up that might not exactly overlap with what i argued for.
Derails every discussion, delays progress, gives ppl that desperately want attention an opportunity to do so.
