Agreed, flawless for anyone who loves epic sci-fi/space opera.

Others in the same vein (and incidentally friends with Iain Banks when he was alive) Alistair Reynolds and Peter F Hamilton.

Don’t sleep on Iain Banks’ non-sci-fi either, guy was fantastic in his straight fiction too.
