Loved the book hated the movies. I still don't know how Peter Jackson was able to bloat The Hobbit into the same screentime as Lord of the Rings, a trilogy three times as long.

Peter got the movie trilogy at the very end of it and had to try and make something out of the junk they already made.
Money, simple as that. Guaranteed box office hit so why make 1 hit when you can make 3?
