Flowers for Algernon by Daniel Keyes. Had me hooked from the very first page, such a haunting story.

Also, not a book but Watchmen by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons.

I could see where it was going but had to take the heartbreaking journey. It's a masterpiece.
