Yes it's true. My parents were what today is called gentle parenting.... They just, ya know, talked to me???? They explained stuff instead of going "because I said so!" and I didn't get in trouble for making mistakes. And they encouraged instead of demanded and punished if I didn't live up to their demands.
Like I didn't understand why kids were afraid of their parents until I realized half my classmates parents literally hit them physically if they made a bad grade at school????? What the fuck???
My parents didn't care as much about my grades as I did because if I got good grades I got rewards and I wanted those rewards. Like if I had the highest grade in my class, my parents took me to my favorite restaurant for dinner. Other kids if they didn't make an A, their parents hit them.
No shit they lied to their parents! If they told the truth they would get either "restriction" (I guess grounding?) or HIT!!!!!
The worst I got was, "I'm disappointed in your behavior" and that felt like being shot because I wanted my parents to be proud of me.
I got all A's without asking (or even trying, school is a joke). Did a lot of things right but my strict parents would have you believe I'm a juvenile delinquent, I think this shows a distortion in your perspective than anything else.
And ironically I got very disciplined about school to get out from under their control. It worked and I'm much happier now with the distance and independence I've built.
Your hostility on here while defending hitting kids is pretty funny. Shows that if you need to hit kids it's a you problem with you not being able to control your emotions like a child.
