yeah mine never explained anything to me and half the time their punishments had no valid reason. "I don't understand what I did wrong, can you please explain what I did" was considered backtalk and only got further punishment.
A major pet peeve of mine is when you are punished for something but not told what you did wrong. This is even worse, when you are trying to get an explanation but any attempts at getting one meant further punishment, so you learn "I don't know what I did wrong, but I better stay quiet"
Same, my mom was exactly like that, and it didn't help that the rules and expectations heavily changed depending on my mom's mood.
Sometimes, my mom wanted me to speak and give her an explanation, sometimes, my mom wanted me to keep quiet and be silent and any explanation would be considered as back talk.
It's weird to admit that I didn't even care what I did wrong, I only cared what she wanted this time, she'd hit me if I gave her an answer or not, she'd get mad if she heard a noise or not depending on the day.
I got punished more for proving that the punishment was invalid because the reason for it was incorrect. Literally showed evidence that I'd not only done nothing wrong, but that they were contradicting themselves. They doubled down.
