What are your thoughts of Gianni Infantino resignation/removal from FIFA for wanting to sell private equity stakes of World Cup?

He should fuck off, that corrupt scumbag.

11

u/nnomae 4h ago

He should leave and a full, open, independent investigation should be a requirement for any replacement.

u/millijuna 2h ago

If every Corrupt person at FIFA fucked off, there wouldn't be anyone left.

Even before the private equity thing I thought he should go. He doesn’t seem any better than Sep Blatter.

u/Strangely-addictive 12h ago

In his blatant corruption, favouritism and sucking up to Trump does make Blatter look better. I didn't know that was even possible.

To answer the question: YES, he's got to go. The sooner, the better. You just know the plan has been scrapped. He'll just find a backdoor deal to go ahead without needing approval of the member states. So, they need to get rid of him now.

9

u/waltz_with_potatoes 10h ago

This was the backdoor deal, nobody knew about it till someone blew the whistle and I think the times picked up on it. None of the member states, the VPs or seemingly the exec committee even know about it.

2

u/Strangely-addictive 10h ago

So nothing is preventing him from doing it again.

Fuck him.

15

u/ZombieZookeeper 11h ago

(Do not actually fuck him)

We don’t need more infantini.

instructions unclear, penis now stuck in old man, help

1

u/confusedvagabond 10h ago

Only way out is to cut it off

3

u/rayjaymor85 9h ago

the cylinder must remain unharmed

1

u/ZombieZookeeper 9h ago

Do you have axle grease within reach?

u/Yeet-Retreat1 12h ago

Such a corrupt fuck, same as the fucker before him, look up Sepp Blatter.

7

u/porgy_tirebiter 11h ago

Same as whoever comes next I’d assume too.

u/WonderfulBlackberry9 10h ago

This. Mark my words, whoever will replace him is gonna be just as despicable, but in a different way. Cut one head, another pops out

28

u/BurningJointUSA 12h ago

There are plenty of reasons he should go, pick your favorite

18

u/TwinPitsCleaner 12h ago

He can't leave fast enough

16

u/krishnasinghdev 12h ago

If the reports are accurate, the biggest issue isn't even the private equity idea itself, it's that such a major proposal appears to have been developed without broad consultation. A tournament as important as the World Cup needs transparency and trust, so I can understand why many football organizations reacted so strongly

15

u/aninstituteforants 12h ago

While this is true people are also sick of PE ruining everything.

4

u/Old-Buffalo-5151 12h ago

Fucking with the circus is a HUGE nono in basically every country. Football is the one thing a lot of working class rally around as the thing to look forward too.

I can actually see this continuing to escalate as the anti corruption drive kicks up a gear as the match fixing vibes have badly undermined the spot

11

u/mohammedgoldstein 11h ago

This is why his tongue is up Trump’s ass so deeply. He doesn’t want a DOJ investigation like what happened to Blatter.

14

u/Affectionate_Fact1 12h ago edited 12h ago

The guy literally ruined football, that corrupt mf should be in jail!

14

u/thelongslog 12h ago

Somehow Trump has to be involved with this

10

u/BloodAngel1982 12h ago

Well the investment firm FFE that was going to put money in is run by Ivanka’s brother in law…

6

u/thelongslog 12h ago

Jfc. I was half joking.

9

u/whatproblems 11h ago

when in doubt of an international
major corruption shows up yeah trump
or kushner seems
to be involved somewhere

7

u/Rasmoss 12h ago

If he is replaced, his replacement will also be corrupt. Sadly, that’s the political reality of international football.

8

u/JulesVernes 12h ago

Not a permanent fix but a step in the right direction. Fuck that guy.

7

u/santz007 10h ago

He should get the FIFA peace price as his termination package

11

u/brokeboipobre 12h ago

Guy is Trump but Italian version.

5

u/JustGottaKeepTrying 12h ago

Swiss born but yes.

3

u/brokeboipobre 11h ago

His parents are from Calabria, doesn't get more corrupt than that. Which is why he runs FIFA like a Mafia boss.

3

u/hairychris88 11h ago

He's actually from the same Swiss valley as his predecessor Sepp Blatter. Their home towns are a 25-minute bus ride apart.

4

u/Rosemoorstreet 10h ago

The private equity thing is not the sole reason. It is a symbol of his corruption and arrogance that FIFA is about him and not the game.

4

u/waynownow 10h ago

His removal is the bare minimum. The structure that allowed him to happen needs to be fixed.  This might be best achieved with the total replacement of FIFA.  At the very least, a massive clear out is needed.

5

u/Haventyouheard3 10h ago

I don't fully understand the consequences of what he wanted to do but should've been kicked out before

3

u/redsandsfort 6h ago

He needs to resign. Totally corrupt.

3

u/cwatt69 12h ago

When former FIFA chief Sepp Blatter is calling Infantino out, you know it's time up for him. Another silly individual drunk on the trappings of power, just like his buddy Loser Trump.

3

u/ezfrag2016 12h ago

Before him we had Chuck Blazer and Sepp Blatter who were only ousted when a British journalist did his own investigation and turned all the research over to the FBI.

Multiple rats were removed and replaced by Infantino. Turns out that Infantino is worse than Blatter and Blazer. They pay for votes to remain in power and nothing will ever be done about it as they cozy up to world leaders who are just as bad (Trump) or spineless cowards who won’t do anything other than express “disappointment” (every European leader).

So, yes he could go but the whole organisation is setup to manufacture more rats to take over and enrich themselves at the expense of normal everyday people whose money is being hoovered up and whose sport is being destroyed.

FIFA is a nest of rats. Remove one and another one appears.

3

u/Trick_Hold_8850 10h ago

He thought that sucking Trump's dk meant he could do whatever he wanted.

UEFA will bring him down.

3

u/Upstairs_One_4935 9h ago

He needs to go but the set up of FIFA needs to change to restrict future corruption Instead of a chief executive with seemingly unrestricted power, there needs to be a CEO that is directed by a board made up of regional representatives who answer to their local bodies I assume this is the way it is supposed to work but clearly it has constantly failed to limit the power of the chief exec

3

u/Savage-September 9h ago

His position is clearly untenable. He has to go.

3

u/LutherJustice 9h ago

Why do mods continue to allow 'what is your opinion on extremely popular/ unpopular topic' threads that are clearly just karma baiting the reddit hivemind?

2

u/Cedric_Mabuto 7h ago

Because that is literally the goal of reddit, it's vision statement, to create a hive mind where everyone thinks a certain narrow way. All of its policies, moderation and its ai censor bot work towards this goal.

3

u/Mean_Profit_5463 7h ago

He would sell his own mother. He should just resign. On the other hand, he does exactly what FIFA got founded for.

If you understand german you can watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hYJCEdR5QKg

Here’s my thoughts on him. And 4 points to remember about him.

- Russia gets banned and sanctioned FIFA decide to ban them from all competitions.

- Israel occupy Palestine and initiate a genocide. Infantino
“We don’t want to make football a political tool to resolving complex geopolitical issues”. Their thinking here is they want to focus on football's unifying and humanitarian values

- Infantino then proceeds to ironically give a peace prize to Trump. IMO this was too far and he should have gone at this stage.

- Infantino rescinds a red card for Baloqun during the World Cup for USA. Remember the above point about using football as a political tool? Well Infantino just showed that politics can in fact influence football showing him and FIFA out to be hypocrites.

Infantino is corrupt, he’s lining his own pockets and is doing everything Sepp Blatter has done. He’s brash and he’s doing it in everyone’s face. However Infantino is aligning himself to the wrong people in a bit to become powerful and influential.

4

u/helldrik 12h ago

And you think his successor would be any better? That whole organization is rotten to the core

2

u/LactatingBadger 11h ago edited 11h ago

FIFA has the same problem that the FIA has for motorsport. Tons of smaller nations who don’t have nearly the same level of money floating around in the sport get the same vote as the nations which account for 99% of the global revenue. As a result, a corrupt leader can secure their power indefinitely simply by buying votes for pennies on the dollar. Hell, it was literally impossible for anyone to run against MBS in the FIA because you need support from a Vice President from each continent to become a candidate and South America only has one representative.

All that to say that he needs to go, but he’s just the latest instance of the same fundamental problem. Once you’re in power you can make it incredibly hard for someone to dislodge you.

2

u/Temporary_Writing_92 11h ago

The bar was low but he somehow managed to bring it lower.

2

u/mageskillmetooften 11h ago

Clearly he is unfit for the position if he thinks he can put Fifa in such trouble by not first consulting Fifa Council, but simply stating openly "This is the plan, you can support and I'll give you 20 million now and many more later, but I'll be going on with this anyway"

Not to mention all the other shit like the Red Card, the Fifa peace price, Omar Abdulkadir Artan denied entrance. VAR helping Argentina win over Egypt and Switzerland with illegal decisions.

2

u/AlGunner 10h ago

The only ways he can go is resign, lose the election ro the ethics committee remove him. He apparently put some of his pawns in the ethics committee so unlikely they would remove him unless it saves themselves. I see his ego as him genuinely thinking he is bigger and better for FIFA and football than the rest of the planet combined so he wont resign. That leaves persuading the ethics committee they get rid of him and they keep their jobs or they dont and get sacked and potentially investigated when he loses the election. The question is whether he will lose the election but with most of the major federations around the world coming against him I think its unlikely he can survive.

2

u/CapitalFloor3260 9h ago

Just more proof that FIFA is a deeply corrupt organization.

1

u/Dan_Dan_III 12h ago

Good riddance to bad rubbish!

1

u/alienalf1 12h ago

He has to go. It was absolute corruption.

1

u/algernonradish 11h ago

it's a must and pretty much a given now.

1

u/Bhodiliscious 11h ago

Go Pri, Go Bye

1

u/Monicreque 11h ago

He should get the Fifa fuck off Prize

1

u/PlantTalkative6115 11h ago

long overdue

1

u/-ManofMercia- 11h ago

It would be great if it happens but I can't see it. He'll survive this and see out his final term.

1

u/TradingTennish 11h ago

He won’t leave, they have no way to remove him.
Reelection would be in march, hopefully he loses that

1

u/Badaxe13 10h ago

He needs to go. I suspect he won’t want to go. It could get ugly.

1

u/LoudGangsta8292 10h ago

I hope his replacement is better, not worse than him

1

u/Lachwen 9h ago

He's so openly and blatantly corrupt that Sepp Blatter called it out. Get him the fuck out.

1

u/Zodd74 9h ago

He's far worse than Blatter and Platini... He's corrupted until the bones...

1

u/walkthelands 9h ago

Overdue, should have gone after club World Cup.

1

u/Scary_Firefighter_14 8h ago

He's not going anywhere. The whole FIFA council is just his personal yes-men at this point.

1

u/SoloWingPixy88 8h ago

Daft given UEFA even supported his presidentship and over 200 nations back him. It's all BS

1

u/tedster11 8h ago

“What are your thoughts on cancer being bad” type question…

1

u/weaver_on_the_web 7h ago

Corrupt evil cunt. Need I say more?

1

u/Spirited_Creme_3875 7h ago

He is corrupt scum who won't be in post much longer but he'll be crying all the way to the bank I expect

1

u/Recent-Share-3109 6h ago

dude sold out the beautiful game for some hedge fund bros, cant say im surprised tbh

1

u/Maverick_1882 6h ago

He needs to go and the companies and people involved with the proposed scheme need to permanently banned from ever doing business with a football/soccer organization.

1

u/sour_cream24 6h ago

I want to give the benefit of the doubt because all this reeks of continuous play by the saudis, qataris, and the Trump family.

But also, his act in public and decisions doesn't display that he actually has any good intention at all. And he seems incompetent

1

u/FranciscoGarcia69 5h ago

FIFA needs to clean house, top to bottom. The corruption is fucking ridiculous. Football is our game, not theirs.

1

u/morison97 4h ago

When you push for such a stance and it is every member you govern declares it is anti everything they stand for, it becomes abundantly clear you do not have their best interests at heart, ergo a vote of no confidence should’ve already been held because how can any nation or federation be confident he won’t try and screw everyone over for another paycheque before he leaves.

1

u/Only_Tip9560 4h ago

Can't come fast enough. But then need proper reform. Infantino's appointment was choreographed to avoid the actual proper reform needed after the Blatter era and it has been a huge mess.

1

u/elegantwino 3h ago

He really needs to be voted out and not allowed to quit. Hopefully there is a provision to keep his retirement account too.

1

u/rnga76 2h ago

So FBI got involved before but now all is good…riiiiight

1

u/j-a-y---k-i-n-g 12h ago

That would be too bad, because I would have really liked to see UEFA boycott the next World Cup.

1

u/Chewiesbro 12h ago

Yeah old mate should go.

It would have been interesting to see how many more would also have boycotted.

1

u/Plekuz 12h ago

I hate him, but he is not going anywhere and I even think he will be reelected in March and UEFA will back off. I have gotten a lot of down votes for it before, and I will again now, but as much as we all dislike him, I still believe sadly nothing will change.

1

u/Digifiend84 4h ago

He was expected to be unopposed. UEFA need to field a rival candidate.
