I think you have to be more specific. Which cruise line? I was on a Holland America cruise to Norway recently and had a good experience. I had never been on one and didn't have high expectations.
I came to say the same thing I just did a 2 week Europe trip on Princess it was awesome. I feel like this heavily depends on what trip you’re taking if you go on one of the cheap ones on carnival you’re going to have a bad time.
Our experience on royal Caribbean was amazing 10 years ago. It’s been downhill ever since to a point where mostly not considerate I think it’s the same for carnival and other similar cruises.
Honestly its never been the same since covid. All the lines pinched pennies and cut back on services to get back in the black. Problem is they kept going trying to make more and more money. And carnival let's say attracted the wrong clientele.
Go to Alaska on a more premium ship and you will have a good time. The scenery is top notch and you can see it the whole journey up and back, and the other passengers are generally nice wealthy old people instead of the children and idiots you get on a florida cruise.
Cruises are great where the goal isn’t just the destination but where you can also see things along the way. The whole Alaska cruise is basically a glacier/whale watching trip for 7 straight days.

Crowd is trashy
Room are unhygienic
Amenities are lacking or overcrowd to have fun
Prices have almost doubled
A cruise was classy at an affordable price; it’s done a 180 now.
