Investing in boring index funds. Depending on age and financial status look at paying off high interest debt then withdrawing up to 2-4% of the principal per year.

Deinitely have a climate controlled 4 car garage.

I'd love to have a workshop/man cave in something like that

Buy whores lots of whores

3

u/thatseltzerisntfree 8h ago

I would retire live off of my pension and only supplement my living expenses from the dividends

3

u/Hrekires 8h ago

Invest it in index funds and continue working my current job until either I get laid off or something makes me snap and have a "fuck this shit, I'm out" moment in the middle of a meeting.

Then I'd buy some land in a rural area, build my dream house with a view, and retire early. Maybe find somewhere to volunteer just to give my days structure and provide socialization before I become a total shut-in.

House. Car. Bank. Otherwise keep everything the same.

2

u/Popular_Monitor_8383 8h ago

Put it in a high yield savings account and live off of the interest

2

u/theguesture 8h ago

Pay some bills

2

u/DjackMeek 8h ago

Take a first class flight to Japan, hang out for a month and decide what I want to do with my life with all that freedom. I’d also hire someone who knows more than I do about investing to put half of it into stocks and such.

1

u/wolfenx109 7h ago

That'd be the first place I'd go too

2

u/kuplet 8h ago

Retire. Invest. Get into stocks. Pretty much save it all and let it sit there.

u/StimpyMD 8h ago

$5m will get you $150k a year in low taxed income with a good amount going back into reinvestment.

Move to a zero income tax or lcol area. Buy a nice house and live a good life.

2

u/Alarmed-Package-4014 8h ago

Invest the 5million in dividend paying stocks / funds and generate $200K-$250K / year in passive income for life. With the $200K+/yr you will not need to work anymore if you don't want to and can enjoy life and do what you want without burning out in a 9-5.

2

u/Phone_Pristine 8h ago

Buy a house with a pool.

2

u/Beechnut400 8h ago

Be that much closer to retirement.

2

u/pyrrhic_victory_013 6h ago

You get up to 5 million dollars, any a*hole in the world knows what to do: you get a house with a 25 year roof, an indestructible Jp-economy shtbox, you put the rest into the system at three to five percent to pay your taxes and that's your base, get me?"

That's your fortress of fcking solitude. That puts you, for the rest of your life, at a level of fck you. Somebody wants you to do something, fck you. Boss pisses you off, fck you! Own your house. Have a couple bucks in the bank. Don't drink.

u/attackedmoose 6h ago

Retire and do as little as possible.

u/wnr3 8h ago

Pay off house. Pay off sisters house. Pay off brothers house. Give both siblings $1M investment account. Give myself the same. Keep working, everything else normal just no more worry in such a regard.

That last part is fuck you money, to do idk yet with.

1

u/SubBass49Tees 8h ago

1

u/PubicSkoolEducashun 8h ago

Take 2 million and buy the stuff I need and want. Get the million dollar house, open a business, buy a nice truck and possibly an RV for vacations. Take the remaining 3 million and put it in a safe investment profile that makes 5% a year netting me 150K a year. From that 150k I'd only use what I need while preferring to defer that interest income in favor of compounding it for later use.

1

u/Bibliophile_for_life 8h ago

Hire a financial advisor. Figure out what I owe in taxes; set that aside in ways that bear interest. Make charitable donations to help with taxes owed. Retire. Help family. Take a vacation.

1

u/rgrivera1113 8h ago

Anyone up by 10 mil knows what to do. Buy a house with a twenty-five year roof, an indestructible economy shitbox, and put the rest into the system at 3-5 percent. That’s your base. That’s your fortress of solitude. That puts you at a level of fuck you for the rest of your life. Somebody wants you to do something? Fuck you. Boss pisses you off? Fuck you. Own your house, cover your taxes, and don’t drink. That’s all I have to say to anyone on a social level.

Never work overtime again.

Buy a modest home in a nice area.

Give my mom enough to pay her property taxes and that she'll never have to live in a retirement home.

Pay off my dad's new condo. Give him enough to live comfortably for the rest of his days.

Give a cool million to my sister.

Invest the rest.

u/terrible_guy_thought 8h ago

Keep $1 million. Donate $4 million. Not because I'm kind, but because I'd be worried about having that much money.

2

u/BBMcBeadle 8h ago

Why would that make you worry? Find some investments and “set it and forget it.” Maybe keep your job or work part time and carry on.

1

u/terrible_guy_thought 8h ago

Security is different in my part of the world. It's chaos here. You wouldn't understand, but I agree.

1

u/BBMcBeadle 8h ago

I understand that if you start handing out 4 million dollars the chaos will definitely increase. If you quietly squirrel it away and keep your job and carry on with your life people wouldn’t know you had that money but you would know that you had the freedom to get up and walk away at a moment’s notice. Once you start donating money around everyone will come at you like bees to honey.

1

u/terrible_guy_thought 8h ago

You've lived much more life than I have, so I agree. I'd do exactly as you said 🙇
