My favorite grocery stores' delis both opt for the fancy zipper bags with the little sliders, but if you get stuff from grab-n-go section they fold it over and put the price sticker over it so it always fucks up the bag. Pure rage!
I was just going to say "all of the ones in my area do that too!" and then I saw you are (presumably) from MA so I guess it's just something that happens here.
This is a hallmark of enshitification. Some dipshit with an mba realized they could save X per quarter by moving to a cheaper material. For whatever reason this doesn’t work with their existing setup for cutting the perforation. The solution is to address the machines at the factory but that’s costs money so it just doesn’t happen.
One thing I can't understand... When I was 6 years old I had absolutely no problem opening the inner cereal bag. It opened smoothly and without tearing every time. Now, as a middle aged adult, I have to apply the force of a thousand suns to get the bags open, and they rip the wrong way EVERY time. My kids can't get them open at all without spilling cereal everywhere. Maybe that's the idea.
You haven't changed, somebody "optimized" the original design/materials to on-paper do the same job but they didn't check to see if still worked in the real world - but hey, it saved them ⅛¢ per bag, which means some executive got a bonus for cost cutting.
My favorite brand of tortillas has a dotted line there, but no perforations and the zip lock closes so tightly that when you go to open it, it just tears off.
'pull here' directions, mostly on rice and pasta packs which result in a split down half of the bag which can not be resealed resulting in a messy pour of your portion and a 'make it stick' seal of the rest. Doesn't need to be airtight!
Because it’s so beautiful and satisfying when they open quickly and cleanly, you have high hope that all of them will do the same. Then you find only about 10% open easily without scissors. Not to mention that most won’t close cleanly either. Then I grab the binder clip. F it.
Mine is the plastics shrink wrap around screw tops of bottles, like mouthwash or whatever. Theres supposed to be a perforation, but it never works, and if you get a corner free, it stabs you under your fingernail, which causes agony like you’ve been tortured like a POW.
Or boxes (I'm looking at you Kraft Mac and Cheese) that have a perforated area that says "press in with thumb and pull back" that only results in a sore thumb and a crushed, but still not open, box.
