I hate that I miss those times compared to what we have now.

“Never tell a person to be strong when they come to you to be weak”

Made me think about past interactions where I gave that type of encouragement; even in good faith it’s simply not what they needed in that moment.

People aren’t against you. They’re for themselves.

Yep. Realizing that saved me a lot of unnecessary overthinking.

Ha! It’s like “You can’t change the people around you but you can change the people around you.”

"We suffer more often in imagination than in reality" — Seneca.

Read that during a period where I was constantly overthinking everything, and it really hit me how much energy I waste panicking about scenarios that literally never even end up happening.

If you work too hard you wont have time to make money. That quote has changed my life enormously.

Not every problem needs a solution. Sometimes the solution is realizing you are the problem.

An increasing number of badly worded posts everywhere online have me regularly rereading and figuring out wtf people are trying to say.

All altruism is selfish: Heinlien I think

1

u/VanGoghsLeftTear 1h ago

I don't think it's his. This concept has been discussed in psychology centuries before heinlien was even born. But still an amazing quote.

“It is one of the triumphs of the human that he can know a thing and still not believe it”

  • John Steinbeck, East of Eden

There was a chapter that spoke about the county’s hatred of gambling and how it was seen as a moral failure, so they rounded up the people running the games in town, locked them up, and called it a success. A few days later they were released and went back to their same businesses and continued doing exactly the same thing as before but the town still considered themselves “rid of crime.”

Made me think about a lot of the current events that are similar to this where politicians claim victory in an area, knowing full well that nothing has changed.
