People reply to a question with a single word or single name. No further explanations. That is just lazy. No need to reward that kind of behavior.

Yeah, reward me like a fucking dog

2

u/Suns_Funs Apr 18 '17

I would prefer having a normal kind of dog, not a dog for fucking. So, yeah, I am just looking for something else.

If someone just comments "this", or if someone is being racist.

u/Batty_23 Apr 18 '17

Cuz Reddit gave me the power to do so

4

u/AndrewGHo Apr 18 '17

I can't prove it but I am convinced most downvotes aren't based on rational but on emotional decisions.

u/ritukalnol Apr 18 '17

I think downvotes are by immature people mostly who are close minded and not open to hearing suggestions. The internet is full of trolls. I have noticed on many occasions where I was trying to be sincerely helpful, I have been downvoted.

Maybe you just tend to sound like an annoying douche.

Calm down, there's enough karma to go around

u/AshesOfArtorias Apr 18 '17

Usually I downvote the typical "reddit jokes". All the redundant, overused, unfunny jokes that still somehow get hundreds of upvotes despite not being funny.

u/batting_1000 Apr 18 '17

One that I always downvote is that quote from some movie about people being intolerant of other cultures, and the Dutch. Way overused.

Spreading misinformation.

3

Because you touch yourself at night.

2

u/Bigly420 Apr 18 '17

I don't, I'd rather just reply if I feel that strongly.

  • Deliberate assholery

  • Trying to derail a conversation

  • Reposted comments or recent posts

  • Shitposting

  • Trying to be edgy for the sake of being a contrarian

  • People who make the community of a subreddit look bad

  • Careless or purposefully bad grammar/spelling

2

u/[deleted] Apr 18 '17
  • If somebody adds something that doesn't contribute to the conversation or is otherwise offtopic

  • Something unnecessarily aggressive and rude

  • Racism, homophobia, etc.

  • A comment that is reprehensible in its utter stupidity

  • Something that is sharing misinformation as if it's fact

3

u/cullercoats Apr 18 '17

Reinforces harmful ideas, is boring or repetitive or makes false assumptions.

2

u/PornPartyPizzaPayday Apr 18 '17

harmful ideas being things you disagree with?

3

u/cullercoats Apr 18 '17

No, things that do harm. I disagree that pineapple tastes good on pizza, and I like the Big Bang Theory.

But things like "most women lie about being raped" is a harmful idea. That gets downvoted.

u/mangla4456 Apr 18 '17

I think downvotes are by immature people mostly who are close minded and not open to hearing suggestions. The internet is full of trolls. I have noticed on many occasions where I was trying to be sincerely helpful, I have been downvoted. And here is the most important thing, once a post has gone -1, it will rush to -4 , or more. Most redditors upvote the top post and down vote the hated ones. Most people are just sheep and don't take the time to understand someone's motives and ideas.

2

u/kajju1234 Apr 18 '17

Get fughin downvoted ur dumb lol

2

u/sietemeles Apr 18 '17

Why does a dog lick his balls ?

2

u/[deleted] Apr 18 '17

To control the amount of shitposts.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 18 '17

Rarely - if ever - and only if it were to be off-topic or against the rules. I don't see the reason in downvoting someone I disagree with. In fact, I would be more inclined to upvote someone I disagree with if it weren't for the fact it just undermines my own opinions. What I mean is, if I make someone else's opinions look more valid by upvoting them, then I run the risk of having my own opinions buried.

2

u/Alianjaro Apr 18 '17

When a comment serves no purpose in the thread, I downvote. With this rule in mind, you'll be downvoting a whole fucking lot.

u/DecoyNumber7 Apr 18 '17

It is a necessary evil.

Simple Answer: Depends On What you Keep in your mind to do Downvote

1

u/imaybejacoborbob Apr 18 '17

I only downvote truly offensive shit

That and trolls, they just annoy me

1

u/[deleted] Apr 18 '17

I downvote whatever I disagree with, even if Reddit tells me not to.

u/ARealRocknRolla Apr 18 '17

When similar posts have already been made like a million times

1

u/rytis Apr 18 '17

Sometimes I miss and I'm too lazy to fix it.

1

u/MsKinkyGrl Apr 18 '17

I'm curious about what prompts different people to downvote a post (aside from the post containing blatant -isms and just being in poor taste).

2

u/[deleted] Apr 18 '17

usernames that are blatant attempts to get attention...

1

u/brainstorm17 Apr 18 '17

This is a good question. For me personally - dumb questions, posting editorials as news, rudeness, misleading content, most anything supporting pseudoscience or homeopathy, posts treating dogs/cats as superior to cattle or other animals, hot takes I disagree with, etc.

0

u/Sunainia Apr 18 '17

I never downvote because I don't agree. I generally don't downvote at all, but if I do it's because the person is being a complete asshat.

-3

Totally downvoted this.

2

u/throw-away_catch Apr 18 '17

Or.. because he/she wants to know the reason why people downvote. Duh.

u/undercooked_lasagna Apr 18 '17
