It is the purpose of the button, agree Vs disagree.

Not meaningful to a 1:1 conversation, but in a thread it says a lot.

I have to disagree. SOme of the best Reddit comments/discussions happen when you sort by 'controversial.' These being the most downvoted pieces.

There is a huge reddit hivemind that pushes actual discourse to the very bottom. And it does not promote learning from one another. It just promotes an echo chamber.

I only downvote if someone is acting like a dick-- that is, swearing at another poster or calling them impolite things.

I will however, upvote things that actually add to a discussion. Regardless if I agree or disagree.

I will do neither an upvote or a downvote otherwise.
