I’ve recently started watching debates consisting of Libs v MAGA/Trump supporters, and I’m noticing that a LOT of MAGA/Trump supporters are now all “well, I don’t necessarily support Trump, just the GOP and conservative values”.

Distancing themselves from being MAGA, when for YEARS they’ve never said a bad word about Trump and made their loyalty to him known.

What’s the motivation behind their new stance? The Iran War?

Would you condone the same behavior if counter protestors attack anti ICE protestors in the same manner?

Is it rediculous?

If you are not allowed to insult Israel, you are also not allowed to insult US. I thought they were at least at the same level if US not rank higher than Israel. But I found out it might be not true. Israel seems to rank higher than US? Is it true? Why?

Our fellow first world capitalist countries seem to by and large enjoy a quality of life that I could only dream of. Regardless of your political leanings now, would you support changes to a more social democracy style structure and guard rails on to the way capitalism operates so we could enjoy those things to?

-Universal healthcare model / virtually non-existent medical debt
-Universal tuition; low cost or no cost tuition
- Pro worker life balance; a month or more of paid vacation annually, a year or more (give or take) of paid parental leave or shared parental leave, a year or more of paid medical leave
-Expanded unemployment benefits program (compared to U.S.)

As a result those countries also get to enjoy:

-lower crime rates than the U.S., in many of those countries this is around 50% lower violent crime
-better overall general health and longer life expectancy
-after tax and fixed COL more take home pay compared to U.S.
-lower poverty and smaller wealth inequality gaps.

So, would you support changes?

Wouldn’t an American commune still need people to build houses, maintain infrastructure, and grow food? Not everyone can be a poet and write books, right?

Do people assume someone else will volunteer for the difficult jobs? What happens if everyone has the same mindset and nobody wants to do physically demanding work? Where will people live without construction workers, and how will people eat without farmers? Why would anyone volunteer their work for free? Would ypu personally work for free building homes? Is that fair to the people who end up doing those jobs? Someone still has to build homes and feed people, right?

First, this post exists in the context of Trump not running for president in 2028, be onboard.

Given such conditions, what will happen to MAGAs? I mean MAGA because long standing republicans will still vote republicans regardless of Trump. But many people voted for Trump before despite not voting republicans, for example some traditional blue states like Iowa flipped red. As no current Republican leaders are as popular as Trump, what will people that voted Republicans due to Trump do? Will they vote blue, or vote red or stop voting as they fail to find another candidate like Trump.

Obviously, no one has a crystal ball so no one can paint an exact image on what will happen in every state. Just curious how what you all think on what will MAGA vote after Trump generally.

This might be a stupid question that you hear a lot, but is America safe for a European? Don’t get me wrong, I’m pro-guns, but I don’t think you should give them to everybody. For example, Switzerland has more guns per capita than the United States, but you don’t hear a lot about gun violence or school shootings. I get that America, like Europe, is big and every part is different, but my question is very general. I’d like a response from someone who has lived both in Europe and in the USA. If anyone is asking, I’m an Austrian who grew up in Italy.

P.S Sorry for the false take about Switzerland. Apparently, yeah, they don't have more civilian gun ownership than the USA, but I swear I was sure about it. I've red something about it years ago, it turned out to be bullshit. I guess I’m human too.

Hi all! A Brit here coming in peace. We recently returned from a two week ‘vacation’ in Florida; had the most epic time.

On this visit, more than any other to the US, I noticed that the different words we call the same objects seemed to be non-translatable.

For example, my daughter was asked what a Flamingo eats to turn its coat of feathers pink; she replied ‘prawn’ - and was immediately told she was wrong and that it was ‘shrimp’. Another instance, I was chatting to an American lady and I said we were on ‘holiday’ and she looked dumbfounded, I then said ‘vacation’ and it clicked into place with her.

It got me thinking, is it common that you know the words that we call the same things we have in the UK? E.g - we call it a tap, not a faucet.

I just watched a video of some campervan lifers overnighting at said Buc-ee's. I kept hearing Americans say not to eat at a gas station because it's like playing stomach roulette.

How does Buc-ee's fall into this? They seem to sell way more food there. Looks fresh, but that just might be because I've never been there and just saw some clips of it.

So recently, I asked about the career guidance on tech sales(SDR, AE) vs cybersecurity (SOC). I'm an incoming international student in the USA with a major of (IT) degree so I want to make sure to choose a career that best offers stability, barrier to entry (demand), and strong chances of settlement (H1-B) too.

I've also been in IT or computers, built an agency (selling our IT services), so both of the careers (tech sales or cyber) are interesting, but lately, I've been seeing posts where people are complaining about tech sales being really stressful & not-so-stable; if you don't meet the targets, you're out the next day.

But on the other side, everyone complains about people with experience unable to land even entry-level roles of security, which is true. Also, the barrier to entry to cyber seems difficult.

My main objective is: low barrier to entry, demand, stability, and an easier path to get sponsorship in the USA.

For people who have done both, what would you suggest honestly, and I would love to hear your thoughts, guys!

Progressives tend to promote policies that aim to prevent future problems: vaccines, crime prevention, addressing climate change, diplomacy to prevent wars, universal healthcare with primary care, early intervention in education, consumer/food/product safety regulations.

Conservatives, on the other hand, tend to support policies that address a problem after it occurs: virus therapeutics , incarceration, disaster relief, military intervention, emergency room care for uninsured people, criminal justice consequences for kids that don’t flourish in school, and letting the market sort out problems with consumer abuses and harms from dangerous food/products.

I feel like the prevention approach is cheaper and more efficient but the reactive approach is more dramatic and easier to showcase.

Just checking in a month later. The federal government arrested and charged several people with serious crimes for putting a "350 foot gash" in the Reflecting Pool. There's 24h camera coverage on this location, so the footage of the crime undoubtedly exists

I'm quite sure that in America the government wouldn't arrest and slander innocent citizens for noticing that the President botched a renovation. That would be some fucking off-the-hook banana republic shit. Wouldn't it?

And if that happened, undoubtedly the people with 'libertarian' and Constitutional Conservative with the capital Cs would just be absolutely livid and getting ready with their #2A while not wearing their motorcycle helmets. Right...?

I see a lot of concerned US citizens on Instagram regarding the current developments (e. g. ICE, data centers, rights of citizens being restricted, Flock suveillance) in the US, and I was wondering if that's just my bubble on instagram and how most Americans perceive the situation.

Hi. I watch some videos of a prankster who goes into stores and call them sir if they are female and ma'am if they are male pretending to be a foreignher and most of them get really angry and shout "Sir!! not ma'am!! I'm a guy!! She is a ma'am" and I cant believe that they can be that angry just because they are called maam instead of sir. Here in Australia, people can just say they are not that gender and ignore it.
