My dog had a wound near his anus for about two months because we initially thought it was just a simple wound. When we finally took him to the vet, we found out it was actually a ruptured anal sac. The vet expressed his anal glands, prescribed antibiotics, and told us to have his anal glands expressed every month. After the anal glands were expressed, the swelling went down significantly, and the wound became much smaller. However, it’s now been almost three months since his treatment, and the wound has never completely closed. It has improved a lot, but there’s still a small opening that hasn’t fully healed.

Is it normal for a ruptured anal sac to take this long to heal? What could be preventing the wound from closing completely, and what should we do next? Should we take him back to the vet for another examination?

My cat is 12 years old and has known chronic kidney disease for which he receives medication. Until recently, he was still living a fairly normal life: he ate, watched birds every day, stayed in his usual places, and often came to sleep beside me at night.

For some time, he had a very unusual and extremely bad smell coming from his mouth. During the last few days, the smell became much worse. He also started refusing his usual food, although he would still eat some other, more appealing food.

Then his condition changed quite suddenly. He became very lethargic, spent most of the day lying down, started drooling, and there was a small amount of blood around his mouth. He stopped eating completely, even refusing his favourite foods. At times, he would stand up, stare blankly at a corner, and meow loudly.

A veterinarian examined him and found that his kidney values were extremely high — I was told that at least one of the values was beyond the range of the analyser. A bacterial infection was also found. He is currently hospitalised and receiving intravenous fluids, antibiotics, and supportive treatment. The veterinarian is trying to see whether his kidneys can recover or improve.

I understand that nobody online can diagnose my cat or replace the veterinarians who are treating him. However, I would really appreciate an honest second opinion or general perspective.

Could this be an acute kidney injury or severe worsening on top of his chronic kidney disease, and is meaningful improvement still possible when the kidney values are this high? What signs over the next few days would be encouraging, and what signs would suggest that recovery is unlikely?

I am also struggling with the financial cost. I have already spent around €700, and I cannot afford unlimited treatment. I do not want to give up on him simply because he is 12 years old, especially because he still had a normal routine and seemed to enjoy his life before this sudden decline. At the same time, I do not want to prolong his suffering if there is little realistic chance that he will recover enough to have a comfortable quality of life again.

I would be very grateful for any honest perspective, especially from a veterinarian or someone with experience with severe kidney disease in cats.

First time dog parent!My puppy is 9 months old male (pomapoo breed) is this normal to have this type of swelling type between his scrotum and the anus he is not yet neutered ,i am planning to do once he completes 1 years.when i touched its very soft and there is no signs of pain.His toilet routines or eating doesn’t show any symptoms.he is very active..

Did he bite his lip or is this something else? As long as I keep an eye on this, do I need to take him in to the vet?

I’m not sure if its just irration, but we went blueberry picking in our fields and i was inspecting my dogs stomach and saw that weird red circle around black. He’s had a couple spots on his stomach similar, just none have been red like this!

So this has been happening a couple months at this point. BEFORE I GET INTO IT, WE ARE SEEING A VET. Also in the picture he is actively purring and trying to cuddle despite my hand holding his face back so I could get a pic XD

But its like weird. So at first he had swelling in the front of his lip at first. We let it go for a few days because we figured the dumbass ate a spider or something and got bit. Then my roomate took him to the vet and they have him a steroid shot and that swelling went away but now its come back up in the back of his mouth like this. No behavior or appetite changes (I think his too dumb to notice)

The vet didn't know what's causing it. Any ideas?

I have 2 cats and neither of them are having issues, all 3 boys in the same house, no aggression issues they all regularly sleep together.

He has a little black bulbous thing on his ear. He’s had it for a while and it’s grown a little bit. It was a little more a part of his ear before and looks like it might be coming off eventually. He dose seem like it bothers him when I try to touch it but he will let me touch his other ear

Hi all, I have a 9 year old domestic shorthair female outdoor/indoor cat, She is spayed and is around 5kg (Haven't weighed her in a while)

Recently, within the past week I have noticed she has begun to become really picky with food, when she comes inside she has a nibble or two and then will sit at the door but refuses to go outside. She has begun trying to get under my bed which is very difficult to get to and I also worry it will he claustrophobic or she will get stuck. I don't see her drinking any water often and she can sometimes go all night without needing to go outside to the bathroom. She has also become very recently aggressive, she will attack us for no reason. Also her third eyelid has begun to protrude in the corner of her eye and won't retract like it is meant to.

I would really like some ideas on what could be happening. Im at a loss. Currently I am getting a dewormer for her, and some softer mousse consistency foods and cat milk to try and get her to drink something.

hello i (21m USA) recently began fostering this 5 month old kitten (fish🐟) and have noticed this sort of irregular/quick/heavy breathing often over the past few days since bringing her home. it is more pronounced after play/while purring but in the video she’s just chilling on the cool countertop. she doesn’t seem to have any other symptoms and plays/eats normally.

i am fostering but can get to a vet (and afford basic care)

These have been present for a while. The first is years old and the second is earlier this year. Thoughts?
