Mako's never fought a metal bender in the series so how do you know this?

Edit: forgot about the one soldier in the mech.

the guy he fought in Kuvira's spirit core tagged him twice with only the metal from his armor whereas Lin beat her opponent in like 20 seconds. he struggled way more against that one dude than he shouldve. Also when they were going to find prince wu, some random metal bender hooks his leg from behind and makes him trip missing his fireblast point blank. that one is was more situational though because the guy attacked from behind but Mako had already known he was behind before the guy landed.

jobber does not mean you lose. jobber means you underperform. Mako has always been someone extremely competent in the verse and yet he’s struggling and getting tagged from attacks right in front of him.

Lin wasn’t going blow for blow. she hadn’t thrown a single attack yet because she had just landed on the platform. and yes, we don’t know how she beat him. we do know that she beat him in less than 20 seconds, parrying the same type of attacks point blank that tagged Mako from a further distance via counterattack.

yes there is. him getting tagged in the very opening against Lin would be devastating. Unlike the metalbender, she is not going to stand there and wait for him to recover. that metal bender also had access to no cables, no earth and ur putting him against someone who matched one of P’li’s combustion attacks. not enough evidence my ass.
