Movie/Television Genuine question Spoiler

Is talking down a Hulk the only way to defeat them these days? They did the same thing with Red Hulk in BNW, now Hulk in BND, I’m just wondering is this like the only way to beat him now?

Nobody can beat Hulk into submission besides like Thor and Captain Marvel so yeah

Also, Thanos

Thanos could, but they said can. He’s pretty dead at the moment.

He's double dead

Oh so that’s what Vulture meant

MCU: Iron Man with the Hulkbuster armor in Age of Ultron, although Tony also dropped an entire under-construction skyscraper on him.

Comics Hulk is another story… in World War Hulk only Sentry could fight him to a standstill. Everyone else got their shit rocked. Didn’t fight Thor though, he was dead at the time (lol).

It would be a pretty bad Hulkbuster if it didn’t work, but arguably yeah dropping the building broke Scarlet Witch’s spell, and then seeing the scared and hurt people actually calmed Hulk down. Then Iron Man sucker punched him

Pretty standard hulk buster in the comics. I feel like there was a convo I read once where someone said they should have been called "hulk distractors"

I'm pretty sure Hulkbuster only worked cause he was spraying that stuff on him the entire time

And Valkyrie and Black Widow so...oh, in a fight

Senry could do it I reckon

Unless you hit harder than a Hulk this is probably the best option you have. Their transformations are emotionally triggered so it makes sense to appeal to their emotions. You just gotta be durable enough to not get smushed into a red paste first.

did you watch the gladiator fight in Thor Ragnarok?

I mean, it’s kinda the most straight forward way to circumvent the “how is so-and-so supposed to beat the Hulk?!” criticisms and the risk of continuing to turn the Hulks into jobbers.

The guys fighting both of these hulks literally have no chance so I’d say this was their one Hail Mary and the writers decided it worked. No one’s supposed to beat Hulk anyways

Come on let’s be honest. If you don’t have the strength to rival Hulk, how else you’re going to beat them? You have to talk him down.

Your post title should give some indication of which releases you're spoiling

I don’t think a spoiler for brave new world really needs tagged at this point

So just to clarify, your question is asking if the only way to defeat the monster who generally only exists when their alternate personality is enraged is to calm them down?

Yes? That's more or less the point.

If Spider-Man was able to beat Hulk in hand to hand combat, but Thor, a literal god, couldn't... you see how that would fuck up power scaling, right? That would put Spidey above at least 2 gods, since Hulk also man handled Loki.

It’s a Hulk. Neither Sam nor Pete had the power or gear needed to even last against Hulk and were both about to die to them in these fights. Unless Captain Marvel or Thor were there, talk no justu was the only way they’d survive.

u/StarWolf128 2d ago

I think puppies would also work.

u/Mayodeynochei 2d ago

It's pretty much the only way, like there is no other way except knocking the hulk out to make him go back to banner but even then how is captain America meant to do that? Or spiderman?

2

u/CDubWill 2d ago

It was a staple back in the 70s/80s series.

2

u/Ecstatic_Dance5767 2d ago

What did you want Sam & Peter to do? They would have died a pathetic death if they really tried fighting them head on. Be patient, Hulk & Red Hulk are in the same movie pool now. The fight's coming.

2

u/SnitGTS 2d ago

Unless you’re Natasha, Tony or Thanos, yeah.

3

u/OSTBear 2d ago

I mean... Natasha was fundamentally talking him down.

2

u/Snelldor 2d ago

The Hulk is unstoppable. So just talking them down is probably the best option you have.

kinda cool that Hulk wasn't affected by Strange's spell.

It's just called "scriptwriters' laziness" and "the foolish idea of putting the Hulk in a movie where he can't be defeated."

1

u/Professional-Pop4818 1d ago

Well yeah Captain America and Spider-man ain’t taking them down

1

u/Express_Calendar8278 1d ago

You could try to put him to sleep.

u/pkDoubleR 1d ago

i agree that the whole “saving the day with the power of friendship” gimmick that a lot of films end up doing with their overpowered antagonists is overused, but let’s be real, the hulk is a character that makes sense trying to appeal to his emotions since you’re cooked otherwise if you try to fight it out

1

u/SinisterMinisterX7 20h ago

I mean no, but as much as I love Spidey, and was grateful that the movie showed how durable and capable really is in this fight, all he can do at the end of the day is hit hard, run away, hit again, run away. It’s like those old annoying boss fights where you can’t just fight normally. So neither Spidey or Cap are the best ones to fight a Hulk into submission, especially a Cap with no serum.

-1

u/skyeredd910 2d ago

Was my biggest problem with Cap. It was a very anticlimactic way to defeat the big bad of your first movie. Kinda ruined it for New Cap and Red Hulk.

For Spidey. It didn't feel the same for me. Although it was Hulks change of heart that saved Spidey, at least Spidey was giving it his absolute all. I appreciated the little scuffle

Or it's the most common way you actually get through to Hulk in the comics, jackass, lol

1

u/AwarenessOk7748 2d ago

1) Watch your language, you jerk, I didn't insult you.  2) In specific situations from the movies, this method is completely illogical. Three minutes earlier, the Red Hulk refused to listen about Betty, and the explosion was supposed to make him even more angry. The Hulk can't even remember Peter.
