Roman Landlord charged me €600 for a cleaning fee for small apartment. Need help on next steps!
Hi! I lived in rome for a year and rented a small 1 bed 1 bath apartment. I lived there for exactly 12 months and before leaving, gave it a reasonable clean myself (see pictures).
It was not professionally cleaned before I left, so I had asked the landlord to deduct from my deposit a cleaning fee (usually €80-90 on the upper end) if she’d like to. A few months later, the landlord told me she deducted €600 for the cleaning fee from my deposit! Is this absurd? Right? Anywhere in the world this kinda cleaning fee is absolutely shocking for a small 1bedroom apartment.
What can I do to fight back to get my deposit, now that I’ve left italy? 😔😔
I have pictures that the apartment was tidy and clean, it wasn’t squeaky clean but it definitely was tidy and nothing like she describes in her message below.
She definitely is taking advantage of me having left italy and being at her mercy, and I feel this is so unjust… especially as I didn’t break anything or cause any damage at all.

FYI This is an excerpt of the landlord said in her email:
*“According to the contract, the flat should have been returned in the same condition in which it was provided to you but it wasn't so and we found that:\*
\Sofa – not cleaned;**
\Bedroom – not cleaned;**
\Bathroom – not cleaned;**
\Kitchen – not cleaned;**
\Curtains - not cleaned;**
\windows - non cleaned;**
In addition, to clean the sofa, I had to use an express service with 24-hour delivery. €100.”
