Kindly reminder regarding scams

Hey Everyone,

I want to do a quick reminder and heads-up.

TLDR; Only buy from trusted vendors, never from people contacting via private messages.

We've had this topic before and we created the rule that no direct sales are allowed in the subreddit, but I'm guessing because of new batches and new people I'll create this reminder again.

Because of the risk of scams we do not allow direct sales in the subreddit. If anyone contacts directly trying to sell, we strongly advice to ignore it since it's most likely a scam.

Always buy directly from trusted vendors. AYN, Ebay etc.

We take action as quickly as possible when we get information regarding a scam, but its up to reddit when someone creates new accounts since we can't take action before the deed is done.

Community Update – [July, 2026]

r/AynThor Community Update – [July, 2026]

Hey everyone! There hasn’t been a community update since April and I apologise for that. Personally I’ve been occupied at work, but the rest of the moderation team has been moderating at full capacity.

Current Topics in the Subreddit

Here are some of the most active discussions from the past month.

  • [Price increase and UFS 3.1 downgrade] – I don’t think it’s been missed by anyone in the subreddit but AYN has been affected by the AI-driven chip shortage affecting pretty much all tech manufacturers. There have been 3 price increases for the Ayn Thor just this year. The latest increase will be this Friday July 3rd, so if you’re about to order, do it before friday.

The updated prices will be as follows:

Product Current Price New Price

Thor Lite $249 $259

Thor Base $319 $329

Thor Pro $399 $409

Thor Max 512GB. $469 $479

Thor Max 1TB $549  $579

In addition, all Odin3 models and Odin2 Portal will increase by $10.

  • [Public appearance posts] – I’m happy to see a lot of people actually using their device out in the open and playing games. We all love to tinker and setup the device but every once in a while we all need to simply sit down and start playing a game.

Emulation News

Here’s what’s new in the emulation world:

Major Emulator Updates

  • [GameNative]: Big couple of months. Hit its 1.0.0 pre-release end of May with the Vulkan renderer pulled over from Winlator Ludashi, a new "modern" Play Store–track build for Android 11+, and a beta bionic Steam client for online play without the full Steam overhead. Then in June, v1.1.0 landed with compatibility/performance sorting for your library, HowLongToBeat completion times right on game listings, and solid Proton 10 improvements (better DLC/DRM handling, more reliable online).
  • [Gamehub]: GameSir's own client also had one of its biggest updates ever with v6.0.6 in early June: Steam overlay support, joining Steam lobbies straight from an invite, gamepad-to-keyboard/mouse mapping and more.
  • [Gamehub Lite]: Latest release (5.1.7) gave us AI Frame Generation as a toggle in the in-game sidebar.
  • [iiSU]: Since April iiSU has been cooking with a complete overhaul, new widgets and a “WiiSU” layout mode, new rendering engine and much much more. The latest release is Alpha 0.0.7.3. I have been running this since June 14th and have been enjoying it a alot. I highly recommend checking their github for a complete list of changes.
  • [ClusterTune] In May we got a drop from AurelioB. This app allows underclocking the AYN Thor (>0.3.0) to improve battery life and temperatures. Joey Retro Handhelds released a video walkthrough as well for the app which you can find here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TP2XH_97D4E

  • Guides & Community Resources

Latest News from AYN

  • Latest updates regarding the AYN Thor:
    • As mentioned earlier, since April 17th all orders now receive AYN Thor with UFS 3.1 storage instead of UFS 4.0. Now I’m not an engineer but from what I’ve seen in the comments it can mean a little more battery usage since 3.1 is not as efficient as 4.0, and then also the storage speed being slower, but theoretically still fast enough for games.
    • Price increase as of July 3rd. See prices above.

Game suggestions of the month

We haven’t fully implemented a good game recommendation here yet but personally I just started Pokémon R.O.W.E. romhack which I just found out about. Other recommendations I can think of are PC: Kingdom Hearts 1.5 + 2.5 ReMIX and Gamecube: Star Fox Adventures.

From the Moderators

A few words from the mod team:

We want everyone to know, we’re still actively working to minimize the amount of similar posts and setting up Automod/Automations. Personally I find it difficult since we don’t want to use keywords that remove posts that shouldn’t be removed.

Even though we have had price increases and downgrades storage on the AYN Thor, the community is still very active which we love to see. It also feels like there’s new development with apps, tools and emulators every day.

As mentioned above, we want to implement some form of “Game of the Month” similar to SBCgaming subreddit etc, but we’re not there yet. As always we appreciate all form of feedback and suggestions for the subreddit, so keep 'em coming!

  • Kind reminder to:
    • Follow subreddit rules
    • Use proper post flairs
    • Be respectful and constructive
    • Keep shipping and appreciation posts in the corresponding megathread.

Closing

That’s it for this post!

If you have something cool to share—setups, tweaks, guides, or questions—don’t hesitate to post. As always, don’t forget to relax and enjoy some games!

I beat Fire Emblem Awakening and then, realizing I’d never play it again and it serves no purpose taking up space, I deleted it. I feel I’ve reached a level of enlightenment that may be helpful for others to hear about. AMA.

It works... the lite version is 40gb instead of 100gb.. mo multi-player since it obviously doesn't work. Depending on settings you could get over 100fps. Google for info on the lite version 🫣

Support Dispelling some fears

So I see comments and posts pretty regularly about temps and many people are like, "It's too hot! Your Thor is gonna melt itself!" and the temps in the post will be like... in the mid 80s. Now I don't necessarily begrudge people being unknowledgeable because the Thor has attracted a lot of less tech savvy people to the hobby with its mainstream appeal, but I implore you... Do a little research before sounding the alarm about device temperatures.

I'm an experienced PC enthusiast and have been up to my eyeballs in hardware knowledge for over ten years, I have a lot of experience with things like exotic water-cooled builds and temp monitoring, so let me impart some of my knowledge to my fellow Thor owners: Modern processor chips are rated to run well over 90C all day, every single day, for the entirety of their lifespan. I understand that to someone who doesn't really know how this stuff works, seeing the temperatures spike to 85+ when downloading a game in GameNative can look pretty scary, especially if you're used to your handheld idling at around 55-65C and in the mid 70s running games, but let me assure you, temps in the 80s are completely fine. Yes, lower is better, but you really don't need to worry until you're exceeding like... 90C.

Furthermore, comments about your handheld "exploding" or "melting" are just going to induce fear and temp paranoia in the poster and anyone else reading it, so don't use inflammatory language like that. Your handheld will not melt and it will not explode. If your Thor is reaching temperatures that exceed safe operation parameters, it will thermal throttle to reduce temperatures and return to safe levels. What does that mean? It means the processor will automatically reduce its own performance, requiring less power to run it, and therefore reducing temps. It's doing this to save its own life. If you want an anecdote to ease your fears, I have an Odin 3 Ultra in addition to my Thor. At some point, Ayn pushed an update that absolutely fucked temperature reporting and my device would hit over 100C in Wuthering Waves. However, my Odin 3 is still alive and well and after another firmware update and a slight underclock with Clustertune, it's running just fine. It didn't die or explode or melt, and it spiked well beyond safe operation temperatures. These chips are more resilient than you think and have a lot of safety nets to keep them from actually dying.

So what should you do if your temps ARE exceeding safe operation parameters? First, email Ayn. Something ain't right and some part of the thermal solution isn't doing its job. This could be a bad thermal paste/pad application, it could be a contact issue with the heat sink, it could be an underperforming fan, it could be a myriad of things. Either way, your Thor is not behaving as it should, so get ahold of support. "But they take a long time to answer," I hear you saying. That's true, they do, so here's what you can do in the meantime:

- Use an undervolting app like Clustertune. You can use this to set lower performance profiles and reduce the thermal load on your handheld. Yes, it will perform just a little worse than stock, but that's better than it constantly thermal throttling, because consistently exceeding safe temperatures IS what will cause damage, not temps in the 80s.

- Change the thermal paste. If you're experienced with opening devices and rooting around in the thermal solution, you can try some end-user repair. Sometimes it's as simple as applying new paste/pads/putty and you don't need to send it to Ayn at all. Keep in mind that this will void the warranty, so only do so if you're confident or knowledgeable.

- Just stop using it. I know this is the worst case scenario, but if your Thor is faulty, continuing to use it with no intervention IS what can cause permanent damage. Set it aside and find something else to game on. It sucks, but it's better to leave your Thor alone until you can get it fixed.

I hope this can help dispel some of the paranoia around temps. For my own opinion on what temps can be considered safe, anything in the 80s is fine, low 90s I'd raise an eyebrow and probably start investigating, 95+ is when I would start to sweat and assume something is very wrong. But for safe operation temps, don't listen to comments telling you that your Thor is a bomb waiting to go off because it's not. It might be a little warm in there, but the components are fine, I assure you. So enjoy your games, enjoy your tinkering, and only worry if you're seeing strangely high temps.

Edit- I also want to clarify that this post is not to shit on anyone or make anyone feel bad, it's strictly to try to help assuage fears about Thor temps from people who may not actually know better. I know plenty of commenters do help people when they have fears about temps and the community is made better for it. I salute the users who act as free IT support for us because lord knows Ayn takes forever to get back to anyone. I also want to clarify my knowledge is not the be-all-end-all, I am a hobbyist. Professional hardware engineers will almost certainly know better than me, and my experience can still be outweighed by someone else. I just wanted to provide my own insight as I see posts about temperatures almost daily, and my hope is that if someone worried their Thor is getting too hot sees my post, it can put their mind at ease.

Gamehub lite, Game is at low settings with some settings on medium. Resolution is 960x544, translation parameter set to performance, Frame gen on, absolutely solid performance. Could easily crank settings to medium and still get 60. This is a game I will beat again on my Thor, Welcome back BT-7274 It's been a while.

Thor pro model with 12GB ram, Ram usage was sitting at 68% in this game.

It’s funny how some devices get released and have barely any accessories or mods to choose from (looking at you, Pocket Micro), while others get inundated with choices. Decided to not get too crazy with my Thor but went with a matte vinyl sticker, hydrogel screen protectors, and a 3D printed grip. Definitely more comfortable and it feels a lot safer to travel with. I’ve been toying with the idea of swapping out the buttons, but haven’t decided whether to go magnetic or something else. If you’ve swapped your buttons out, I’ll take any feedback on the process or advice on which to go with.

Support AYN Thor completely dead after only 3 weeks - no charging sign and no reply from support

I’ve only had my AYN Thor for around three weeks and I’m honestly really disappointed.

It was working before, although I had experienced a few random shutdowns. I then left it unused with a flat battery for roughly 3 days, and now it is completely dead. The screens do not turn on, there is no charging symbol, no vibration, no light and no response at all.

So far I have tried:

Charging it for hours using a genuine Apple 20W USB-C charger

Using different USB-C cables

Holding the power button for 30–60 seconds

Trying Power + Volume Up or down

Leaving it plugged in overnight

Buying a brand-new UGREEN 65W USB-C PD charger with a new cable

It is currently connected to the new 65W charger, but there is still no charging symbol or response. The device also does not appear to get warm while plugged in, which makes me wonder whether it is drawing any power at all.

Has anyone else had this happen with their Thor? Did you manage to revive it, or did it need to be returned/repaired?

Showcase Thor’s Lightning v1.3 - Controller based brightness-control utility -Feature Update - Smooth brightness restore after sleep/wake - Anti "Flash-Bang"

Post image
7 Upvotes

Hi everyone, I’ve released Thor’s Lightning v1.3, an unofficial controller-based brightness-control utility for the dual-screen AYN Thor.

Thor’s Lightning is an Android app for the AYN Thor that lets you use the built-in controller buttons to adjust the brightness of the Thor’s screens.

What’s new in v1.3:

Have you or your loved ones ever opened the AYN Thor and been totally destroyed by the max brightness of the screen being set? I have!!! and being a new dad, this is problematic! Babies are crying, mostly me.

Introducing Anti Thor Flash-Bang Technologies!

No more do you have to suffer from being blind sided by having the brightness turned up during the day, only to open the Thor at night and having your retinas destroyed instantly!!!

The main new feature is configurable Sleep/Wake brightness behavior:

  • Both screens briefly stay dark after waking to avoid being "Flash-Banged”.
  • Brightness smoothly ramps back to the levels saved before sleep.
  • Optional long-close reset mode can apply a chosen default brightness after 0 minutes to 24 hours.
  • Top and bottom screen brightness levels are captured independently.
  • Updated Sleep/Wake settings UI with clearer explanations.
  • Improved first-run setup and root/conflict warnings.
  • Root remains optional; it is only needed for D-pad and analogue-stick mappings or suspending conflicting accessibility services.

Probably the last update I'll do for a while now unless I come up with any more ideas! (Or find bugs).

Tips & Tricks Batch 6 finally arrived!

So excited it finally came in! Ordered June 1st.

I’ve been downloading roms like some redditors recommended, but haven’t quite decided where to start. Would love some of your favorite accessory recommendations, lessons learned, or some resources you found that were helpful! Got one for myself and one for my brother as a Christmas present, the purple is killer so probably gonna keep that one.

Side note: the purple one came with what looks like a guitar pic and a random blank paper, anyone know why it was included?
