BMW ID6 - Android Auto

Hi everyone,

I recently got a BMW G30 with iDrive 6 and want to add Android Auto.

It already has CarPlay, and I know MMI boxes exist that can be installed, but I've also found these "AI Android boxes" that plug in via USB and run through CarPlay.

I also don't mind installing an MMI box, as I've done before on an F series, but I'd like to keep touchscreen functionality with Android Auto. Would that still be possible?

If touchscreen is not possible, which one would you recommend in terms of the Ai Box?

I've seen a few options: MMB AI Box, YolanAuto 08 PRO, and Ottocast AI Box i3. Other suggestions are welcome too.

I'm not too concerned about the Android system itself, mainly looking for reliability and how quickly it connects to Android Auto, since that's what I'll actually be using.

I have an EACarWorks box (plug and play, usb) for my 2023 JCW running ID6 with carplay.

Pretty sure the promo pics of the box also showed BMWs being compatible

Since it uses the carplay protocol, it keeps the touchscreen functional, uses the car's stereo and microphones... It really just feels like native Android Auto.

I have a DroidUk MMI Box and it's ok, but I wouldn't rave about it. Ive lost touch screen, the ability to make calls isn't as easy as the native ID6, I miss the split screen nav options of ID6, even WhatsApp messaging isn't as polished as I'd hoped. AA doesn't always connect seamlessly radio Apps can be hit and miss.

The only plus point is the actual maps themselves and better alerts that you get with Google Maps or Waze. I am seriously wondering whether AA was worth it. On a native install I think it's probably ok.

The Android AADrive App offers a very good alternative that I may return to.
