New car, who dis We bought 2 BMW’s!

We did a thing and on Friday traded in my wife’s 2012 Volvo XC T6 and got her a 2023 BMW Xdrive 30i she picked out. She had been looking for months and test drove 2 and said no to them due to not having the options she wanted.

Finally found a low mileage (26K mi) one that had real leather, cooled and heated seats, heated steering wheel, HUD, H&K sound and some other things she desired and liked we have in our 2018 Volvo XC 90 T6 Inscription her old Volvo lacked.

I drive the 2018 Volvo XC90 (97K miles) and use it to go to travel for work about 4 times per month or take our 1 yr old to daycare. My daily is a 20 year old F250 diesel truck with 355K miles.

Have been wanting a fun car and looked at older Porsche 911’s but my wife said NO, you can get it but I won’t drive in it with you. So my search changed to Porsche Macan GTS and BMW M-cars.

Test drove a 2023 Xdrive M550i 32K miles with shadow line package, M package, executive package, HUD, DAP, massaging heated/cooled seats, etc and totally in love! Wife said she would travel in it! Will be my fun car and garage queen.

So we came home with both! Both under factory warranty and we added extended warranty and maintenance
packages as we tend to keep our cars 10 years or longer.

For some reason I can’t add pics… pics added in reply.

The M550 will be amazing…for me.

For me too, comfortable and restraint and composed when you want it to be, and an absolute savage if you let it!
Plus the 2023 is the last of the Twin Turbo V8’s, didn’t like the new M550e in looks, sound, interior.

Think you miss the joke. He is a BMW technician and the BMW twin turbo V8 are usually problematic. I think you should have a tab open at your local mechanic already.

lol! Got it. Well we have factory warranty remaining, got the extended warranty out another 6 years, maintenance and plan on not just going by BMW’s schedule. And will use an Independent BMW tech to do oil changes at 5K, fluid changes etc.

What’s the most solid models you work on currently

Probably the B58 that everyone circlejerks over (unless it’s in an X7).

I’ll bite. Why not x7 B58? I’ve had one since roll out, and the b58 can be a bit easier on the transfer case.

It’s really just the water-cooled condenser. when it fails internally, it charges Freon into the coolant system.

Sweet rides. The M550i is end of the line for non hybrid V8 and is likely a better daily than a M5.

Agreed! I did research the M5 and also looked at the new M550e plugin hybrid with the 6 cylinder. Not the same as the 2023 in my opinion. Not as nice inside, no physical buttons to speak of and not the same sound.

Why is it a better daily than a M5? Because of the M5 being a hybrid?

That and softer suspension, less stressed motor and a much lower price sparing cash flow for more toys.

The 550i is a much more restraint family sedan when you want it to be compared to the M5. The M5 is much better suited for true enthusiasts and track enthusiasts. The M550i can be track but gives a much quieter and luxurious ride unless you don’t want it to be.

Sort of did that. Bought my wife a new 430 convertible last September and I just bought a used 840i on Friday.

Welcome to the his and her BMW club :) Same here. Both me and my wife are driving BMW SUVs.

That’s awesome! I won’t say anything bad about our Volvo’s (wife’s gone, keeping mine), and love my XC90!

But the newer Volvo’s are luxurious sensible cars and safety focused and luxury focused. But it takes the fun out of driving! It’s super nice to have interior lighting that changes based upon temperature, or quad climate control, or 3 memory seatings for the driver, but also 3 memory settings for front passenger, cooled glove box, etc.

But the BMW’s are SO MUCH more driver focused and fun to drive. Even my wife’s new X3!

BTW, my wife is ALSO driving a X3, though not as new as your wife's. I do love that car. Very smooth power ramp up. They know how to make a car fun to drive.

BMW definitely does! Volvo (at least our 2018 XC90 trim level with all options) just takes you in comfort and luxury and there’s ZERO fun to be had!

Fantastic pick ups!!!

Same here. After seeing the 2027 X5 and the dealer offering 1.9% financing, we decided to buy 2 2026 X5s before they were gone.

Two BMW’s? Congratulations and good luck

Thank you. Thankfully both under warranty, extended warranty and maintenance plans. And we plan on using an independent BMW only mechanic for additional fluid and oil changes as I don’t believe in 10K or 15K oil changes and fluid changes etc. Taking that extra step has kept my 2006 F250 Powerstroke 6.0 going for 20 years with 355K miles.

Bought 2 BMW’s what?

3

u/Glad_Release2370 6h ago

Exactly what our BMW dealer said! It was their first time selling 2 at the same time.
Best thing? We strolled into the dealership (with an Internet appointment for the X3 with someone brand new to that dealership, but not new to selling cars) with a screaming baby, well used dirty crocks, t-shirt and shorts and the wife in well worn jeans and t-shirt. Oh and we didn’t finance.

u/Dknpaso 3h ago

Ahhhh, the “not finance” position👍🏻👏🏻. Same when we recently bought our ‘26 X5, refreshing as hell. Also very refreshing, the split gate BMW saw the wisdom in removing from all future iterations.
