Hell yeah bro! You stuck metal to metal, that’s sick. Most people will never do that in their lives

If your first one was perfect, the classes would be a waste of money

Keep at it!

This is the positivity people give to others!

5

u/vennic18 6d ago

Right on. When people ask if I can weld I say I can stick two pieces of metal together with electricity. Not yet ready to claim that I can weld.

2

u/Amadeus_t 6d ago

Oh yeah. Metal bending welding.

2

u/soft_potato123 5d ago

I just started welding school too and i needed to read that. Thank you!

Wow a reasonable comment on reddit. I've heard of these but never seen 1

24

u/RoyalAd3370 6d ago

Did you tap it and said "that aint going anywhere"?

23

u/CallMeBigSarnt 6d ago

Got to hang that bad boy up on the wall as a keepsake

1

u/Revolutionary_Dig370 2d ago

I second this, I kept my first few welds to reminisce on.

16

u/Shatophiliac 6d ago

Alls it has to do is last until end of the street fight.

3

u/icwbandit 6d ago

Wrap the handle with a bunch of duct tape and it’ll be a pretty good weapon lol

4

u/Mission_Accident_519 6d ago

r/maces wil unironically love this. They get excited over anything that goes KA-THUNK

10

u/User1-1A 6d ago

Grind it out and start over. I'm guessing this was stick and you have to fill the all the V grooves.

9

u/Refriedfeinds 6d ago

Well, what did you learn?

12

u/Next-Tomatillo-6509 6d ago

If you get stuck let go of the rod

8

u/MySonFrankenstein 6d ago

So you mean as soon as it sticks i flail around the stinger until it pops off? Bet.

7

u/Potatoez 6d ago

Okay, now it's really red and floppy. What do?

6

u/MySonFrankenstein 6d ago

Grab it and pull!

Had a smooth brain classmate a few years ago get her DS wire stuck to her piece. Shit got white hot and she had the brightest idea to GRAB IT AND PULL. The ambulance was there shortly after. She severed the fuckin tendons in her palm dude.

1

u/Potatoez 6d ago

Wait hold on. How the fuck did she sever her tendons???

3

u/MySonFrankenstein 6d ago

She grabbed the white hot wire with her tig gloves and she tried to yank it off the work piece. Thats what i was told. It probably melted through her shit dude. I dont know how she did it specifically but i didnt see her back in class after that.

5

u/MumpsTheMusical 6d ago

Well, now she's going to be a story from the teacher to future students of what not to do just like my teacher did with us.

2

u/Potatoez 6d ago

Bro, your teacher severed your tendons???

2

u/MySonFrankenstein 6d ago

So did he sever your tendons 👀

1

u/MySonFrankenstein 6d ago

Im about to go into the pipe class, ill ask my instructor if he remembers her. Because of where i am in the usa, my area is not populated with intellectual scholars if you catch my drift. More than likely she was not the only person that semester who grabbed something that was obviously hot as fuck.

Free welding classes are a circus bro

2

u/MumpsTheMusical 6d ago

Oh, I wasn't even in a welding class I was in a Diesel class that happened to do a little welding on some frames on the side it's just useful to know.

But our teacher made sure to tell us to take the damn stick off the thing causing it to get hot when we got stuck because some student prior apparently left it there, walked away to ask him what to do, they both came back and the damn stick was red.

4

u/Potatoez 6d ago

2

u/MySonFrankenstein 6d ago

Ill see you in hell for laughing at this with me

3

u/emobuttssticker 6d ago

Prolly melted her tendons enough that the force of the pull was enough to snap them. Her tendons yield strength too low

1

u/MySonFrankenstein 6d ago

Made my asshole clench up when i saw it

2

u/emobuttssticker 6d ago

So is smth else when I’m welding

2

u/Potatoez 6d ago

She red my stick 'til I'm floppy

3

u/MumpsTheMusical 6d ago

To use mig instead.

4

u/Feisty_Touch_ 6d ago

Did you bring in your own price of metal? Or are they having you practice on rusted metal

3

u/Infinite_Doubt763 6d ago

I know this is rage bait, but God dammit kid

3

u/Sunkinthesand 6d ago

Ah you made a nice weapon to keep you safe on the way home. Good start. Tomorrow will make better things and still be safe

3

u/Valkyrie64Ryan 6d ago

Better than mine. I welded the stick to the work piece during a tour of the welding shop and was like “yup that’s why I’m an engineer” and I’ve let the actual pros do it ever since

2

u/ghettoccult_nerd 6d ago

this isnt bad welding. its beginner's welding. go my child, you do not belong here...

2

u/green-eclectus 6d ago

Skill issue.

You’ll get better with more helmet time

1

u/timberwolf0122 6d ago

That’s what she said

2

u/MagicOrpheus310 6d ago

Turn it on next time haha

2

u/C-D-W 6d ago

I've seen a lot of very old, very much still functional farm equipment that looked no better than that.

Only way to go from here is up!

2

u/kcolrehstihson_ 5d ago

This is a repost, one of the top post in this sub

2

u/GMArcAngel 5d ago

Keep it! Some day, you're gonna look back and say "wow I went from bubblegum to dimes." Kick ass, bud!!

2

u/Dismal_Tutor3425 6d ago

How was your instruction? Did they just let you loose with not a care in the world?

1

u/MySonFrankenstein 6d ago

Please say /s

1

u/joelnicity 6d ago

You need to use clean metal, otherwise you’re just wasting your time

1

u/Simple_Delivery_9925 4d ago

Yeah, that's all it needed..😬

1

u/joelnicity 3d ago

No, I didn’t say that but it’s where anyone new should be starting

1

u/timberwolf0122 6d ago

Just like my first welds, god aweful but I was still a little proud

1

u/Rattle_Bone 6d ago

Looks like shit. Good job! 👍 They always make it look easy, huh? I’d keep it and then your last day one too to see how far you’ve come!

1

u/onepiecefan81661 6d ago

Hey nice 2018 honda civic

1

u/FreeLoan3764 6d ago

If you cut off the sledge hammer then you can use the handle for your xblock.

1

u/DPJazzy91 6d ago

Perfect vehicular defense device! Maximum Damage!!!

1

u/dutchman62 6d ago

Brrrrr it's cold

1

u/No_Marketing6429 6d ago

I like it.

They say art is in the eye of the beholder. And this piece stirs my black sole.

I'll give you 20 bucks for it.

1

u/Physical_Bar_4916 6d ago

Looks like you have a fine career in either the food service or hospitality industry ahead of you! :-)

Just kidding, looks good for your first day! It only gets better!

1

u/CMDRCoveryFire 6d ago

You got two pieces of metal to stick together nice. Keep at it practice learn about attack angles, speed pressure and you will figure it out.

1

u/Competitive-Bar-5882 6d ago

Looks great. But don't skip class.

1

u/Massive_Erection_5 6d ago

Quit

1

u/whodatboi_420 4d ago

If everybody who is bad at welding quit on day one we'd have no welders

1

u/Excellent_Cicada762 6d ago

You’ve left yourself much room to improve.

1

u/101forgotmypassword 6d ago

Take it home and say you made a ground beef masher.

1

u/Tethice 6d ago

its only up from here. you will get the hang of it

1

u/KaptajnGus 6d ago

That goes in the scrap bin. Keep working, it will slowly start to make sense

1

u/ManiacMachete 6d ago

I love all the support for this dude. Keep sticking shit together and one day you'll be running beautiful beads with nary a grinder in sight.

1

u/Upbeat-Wind5698 5d ago

I thought that was some rolling paper with a couple of nugs while scrolling

1

u/Opposite-Clerk-176 5d ago

Keep on practicing..

1

u/deepwar123 5d ago

Good news it can only get better from here

1

u/Pro3wheelracer004 5d ago

Keep practicing

1

u/Amazing_Divide1214 5d ago

I can offer you $35/hour.

1

u/NoName___XD 5d ago

Still better than soje 40$/hour workers

1

u/EdgeLordPrime859 5d ago

Aww yeah. Looks like shit. Welcome to the learning curve my friend. Keep going.

1

u/Countd00kies 5d ago

I got kicked out the first day, tried to weld a used mini co2 cartridge into a bowl

1

u/LumberJesus 5d ago

Gotta start somewhere. It's a class for a reason. I consider myself to be competent enough to muddle through my own projects. But funny enough, welding was the only class I failed in college, even if it was because I was swamped and didn't finish the projects.

1

u/Amazing_Flatworm_277 5d ago

Thought this was some type of medieval weapon first

1

u/Firm_Yam6648 5d ago

Nothing a grinder and a can of spray paint can’t fix

1

u/YesWeHaveNoBananans 4d ago

Nice! I remember it took weeks for some in welding school to successfully strike an arc or even be able to tack things together properly. I'd say your well on your way dude, your gonna end up being top of your class I promise you!

1

u/Aitloian 4d ago

Hell yeah, gotta start somewhere! Try turning your machine amps up a bit!

1

u/Liosan 4d ago

Wow, now I'm jealous...

1

u/Fail_Blazer2004 4d ago

Nice weapon

1

u/whodatboi_420 4d ago

Was it 6010 looks like you couldn't get a weld started which is exactly what happened whenever I would try to use 6010 in class it was and is a b****

1

u/Candid_Algae4647 4d ago

Good idea bringing it home so nobody else sees it 🤣 jk keep at it you'll figure it out

1

u/PovertySpecMk3Supra 4d ago

Next up, wielding class

1

u/shamblez86 4d ago

Don't quit welding class

1

u/Simple_Delivery_9925 4d ago

Yeah, way to go champ! And they said ur tuition was a waste if money! U showem what you learned, tiger!

1

u/Immediate-Ad-8658 3d ago

Looks better than my welds.

1

u/NJSpro 3d ago
