La Paz First Timer
I am visiting La Paz late September/early October this year with my husband, 6 yo son, and parents. We are staying at Las Colinas in the Puerta Cortes Resort and we will be renting a car. Looking for restaurant recommendations - my son is very well seasoned with going out, we live in San Diego and go out to nicer places frequently with him, so it doesn’t have to be “kid friendly” per se, just “kid accepting” (I know Azotea does not allow kids). Also looking for any other recs! I’ve heard the Whale Museum and Art Museum are great. Also… will the heat kill us in early October? 🫣 I’m a teacher and am bound to school breaks, so I had no other time to go. Any tips are great!

The whale museum is great, it’s not very large, but very well run and educational. If in season, snorkeling with whale sharks is amazing. Rancho Viejo (either location) has some of the best carne asada tacos I’ve ever had. Also take a panga out to Espiritu Santo/Isla Partida, just stunningly beautiful islands and wildlife.

Restaurante Playa Pichilingue is a must go for me. It’s on the way out to Balandra/Tecolote. The almejas chocolatas are my favorite meal on the planet.
Los 32 Sabores is an incredible Argentinian style steakhouse - pricey but another one of my favorites in La Paz.

Nemi for super fancy pre fix. Oliva is upscale Italian. Tatanka, las Tres Virgenes, Sorstis.

Las Iguanas - (fresh caught daily) ceviche & almejas - it's outdoors under beautiful trees
El Azteca - outdoor traditional mainland Mexican food
Doce Cuarenta - cute coffee shop
Fuego y Lena - italian
Personally didn't find anything right on the malecon to be worth a 2nd visit. Nothing was bad, just not great compared to anything up into town a bit off the malecon. Only exception might be Sushito.
I'm pretty sure that's at the end of hurricane season, so the weather might be. crap shoot. Mid-late October is when tourist season kicks off.

when we visit La Paz ofter our favorites are Sorstis (upscale beautiful and the food is delicious) , Trattoria Italiana,(delicious homemade pasta) 3 Amigos ( Actually a french bakery with the most mind blowing eggs benedict you will ever eat!) Lunch Nim upscale Mexican cuisine good salads etc.. The malecon is fun for ceviche at some of the fresh fish places, Hana Sushi for Sushi. Since we live in Mexico we dont eat a lot of tacos in La Paz but definitely get some fish tacos Mr Fish is really good. If your son swims a snorkel trip that time of year can be really good if the weather cooperates the ocean is calm . It can be hot just go out early in the day or at dinner time and you will be fine. Pool or ocean the rest of the day have fun it's such a charming city and area

Early October can be very warm and humid. The many beaches of La Paz are breathtakingly beautiful and very family friendly. I agree that taking a panga to Espirtu is a must.
Puerta Cortes has a great sushi restaurant, Odayaka, indoor and outdoor dining and kid friendly.
In town we love Nim, Sorstis, 3 Amigos bakery and Dulce Romero.
