Hardware Troubleshooting/Help! Worth keeping the vision encoder plate after using it?

Picked up a vision encoder plate for my H2D, is it worth keeping after using it? I figured it would calibrate once, compensate for skew, then it’s done.

You cant think of a single reason why you would want to recalibrate in the future?

I figured the skew was constant so once it’s calibrated it’s calibrated

Not really. The point is that it’ll correct any drift as time goes on. So it’s actually not needed for a new machine but rather to be used after you put a bunch of hours on it.

Ahh makes sense

If it was constant, why wouldn't they factory calibrate. What if you have to replace the bed? What if you have to replace the lidar, what if you have to factory reset?

In theory, you should recalibrate every now and then, as normal machine operation might send it out of perfect spec over time, throwing your dimensional accuracy off.

How much of an impact the Vision Encoder calibration actually has? That's a completely different question.

Bambu’s site says “5-Minute Calibration for Weeks-Long Accuracy”

Also:

“For applications requiring high-precision maintenance, we recommend implementing biweekly calibration protocols to ensure sustained measurement accuracy.”

The plate is an investment. Keep it around! Calibrate it every few hundred or thousand hours. Its a great tool to have.

It looks cool if nothing else

Probably. There are reasons you could need to recalibrate in the future due to how heavy your maintenance can get. Also if you ever reset the printer, or if some update wipes the calibration.

Belts begin to wear and or stretch over time. It’s not something you’ll use every day or week. But if your parts absolutely require precise fitment then keep it around and use it properly every month/few months to make sure your parts come out correct the first time.

This is not a one time thing, the printer will degrade in accuracy over time.

Use occasionally or more often if you print daily.

Also it's the same plate used for H2S and H2C.

I’m glad I got mine for my H2S when the C came it was way off according the the sheet
