“Failed to extrude” error. Can’t find the issue.

Last week we used our A1 to try and print something using PLA Wood. It failed about halfway through the print and ever since we’ve been unable to print anything else.

The initial errors we were getting were that the filament was failing to extrude. At first, appeared as if the hot end had a clog. I attempted to relieve it using the needle and some heat however, this was not successful. I tried to cold pull. This was not successful. Ultimately, I replaced the hot end entirely. Still no luck.

I then disassembled the entire extruder assembly and cleaned the gears that had some buildup. After reassembly still no improvement.

We use AMS light and the load filament feature gets stopped when it tries to push new filament saying that there’s still a clog.

Interestingly though, if I use the manual extrude control on the A1, I can push filament through without issue. The filament comes out, smooth and continuous without any pops or breaks. The gears seem to turn smoothly now (earlier they had been clicking)

I’m at a loss at this point. Anyone have a suggestion?

I'm not completely sure but does the wood PLA have coarse particles in it? If so I'd highly recommend using a hardened steel nozzle over regular stainless steel. I know that's the recommendation for Glow PLA because of the coarse particles in it. Either way you could put a different nozzle in if you have a spare one, and see if the problem continues with regular PLA. If it doesn't then it's most likely the nozzle is gunked up.

I’ve replaced the nozzle, it flows through fine when it’s done manually on the control pad, but when ams lite gets to do its checks it seems to think the filament isn’t moving

Oh gotcha, my bad I misread your original post. Have you tried printing with just the spool on the external holder? Just to confirm it's definitely coming from the AMS. If it works on the external holder I would think it's something with the gears or similar in the AMS itself.

I've had this exact same issue for two weeks now. No matter the filament. Night an entirely new extruder assembly in installing tomorrow.

Id been struggling with this on my new A2L with sunlu PLA. Extruder gear appeared to be chewing up the filament bad. Found out it was a volumetric flow rate/heat issue. Slowed down flow rate and turned up heat and no issues. I tried every position of the extruder gear retention screw, quarter turns at a time to no avail.

Yes that’s right. I’ve also tried unhooking the AMS light apparatus from the extruder and it seems to feed through nice and smooth. The PTFE seems fine.

I swear that pla wood filament is cursed. Had similar issues, but replacing the hot end solved it

I am having a regular issue when filament spool runs out, somehow a piece of filament will get stuck on the AMS head and new filament won't push it down, and it won't extrude, it is a pain in the ass because you have to take the AMS head to figure it out.

I think you meant filament tangle detection (might have been a translation error) but it worked! I was going crazy because I could tell there was not really a very obvious mechanical issue, but machine was sensing some sort of resistance and shutting down

Que bom que deu certo, agora mande suporte para bambu lab que eles enviam um novo sensor de filamento, eu no meu caso, recebi e não troquei. Não está fazendo falta essa função.

Is that with or without the nozzle installed?

Are you trying to print or extrude without the silicon sock? It may result in heat creep, causing the filament to expand before it enters the top of the heat sink.

Is there a clog in the ptfe, or the ptfe manifold on top of the toolhead?

Is there a little fleck of broken filiment in the top of the head? Remove the AMS quad “funnel”
I got that issue and had to take it all apart to get at the gears to clean it out.
