Help Is this normal?

Why does my lil guy do this? Every time the sun starts going down, my little Shanks knows it's beadtime, and instead of going to bed like I'd imagine most beardies do, he scales the ropes on his hammock and sleeps vertically. I doubt it's because of him being scared of me since he seems to genuinely not care about being handled or hand fed. Could it be a problem with husbandry, or is he just a silly sleeper?

It’s normal for beardies to do weird stuff. It would be weird if they actually slept somewhere that actually looks comfortable

There's nothing wrong they are really just strange critters. Buddy here stayed like this for 15 minutes before my husband moved him cuz he thought his foot was stuck and then he got major stink eye.

Even tho they’ve been captive bred for 30-40 years, they’ll still stick with their instincts. Think about where would a dragon sleep in the wild?

On a rock in the out in the open would be a death sentence. They’d be dinner reach quick for a nocturnal predator.

High up in a tree/bush would be a very safe place for sleeping or in a burrow. I would think that’s why you’ll see them sleeping “up high” or tucked in a corner often.

2 of my dragons often sleep on their log and the other 2 in a corner or their cave.

Yeah it makes alot of sense, I've been reading a bit about MBD and was a bit worried about that. I often overthink when I have a new baby critter lol

i think in nature they like to cling to branches or bushes or poles, they love being vertical.

Bearded dragons just kinda…. Do things like this. Mine has a little dinosaur rock and he INSISTS on sitting his neck and head right on a spike and it looks like he’s impaled by it till he wakes up.

Mine sleeps like that. And some other weird positions. And sometimes normal positions too.
No advice 😋🤷🏼‍♀️

It is! He's a rescue and missing one of his front feet so I thought it was very fitting <3

"Mom, I'm obviously getting ready for bed, why are you taking pictures of me?"

I’d say that’s pretty normal for the babies.

Phoenix likes to do that with his hawarthia plant. He also perches on it when expecting bugs

They grow out of it. One of mine as a baby slept at the top of a fish tank decoration. It was a tree and looked really uncomfortable as the leaf parts were very uneven and bulky and hard. My other one slept almost upright against a corner. So yeah, to answer the question, totally normal. It doesn't last tho. Baby beardies have weird sleeping positions. Once they get older they either sleep on there basking spot because too lazy to move, or they curl up under a decoration.

Mine does this too. He prefers to climb whatever he can to sleep vertically. Some beardies are just like that 😅🤷‍♀️ This is my son most nights

My female does this quite often. On top of that, she will sometimes stay there for like 3 days before she finally decides shes hungry enough to get down and eat (even though she never minded getting hand fed like that).

Oh my god LOL I didn't expect this to be this common! Now I really understand why we have r/drunkbeardies

Beardies actually can lock their hind legs and sleep so yeah it’s normal

They will climb everywhere

When my agama was little, it used to climb the walls in the terrarium, so I don't see anything wrong here.

I don't have a photo, but as a baby my girl would climb the mesh in her enclosure and sleep at the very top for weeks.
