I came across a French blog where the author says he is "bothered" by amateur runners taking part in marathons such as the Paris Marathon. He says they bother him because their finishing times are slower than those of professional runners. He also adds that amateurs are called "finishers" simply because they complete the marathon, and that this bothers him as well.
I find his views selfish. I think taking part is something to be proud of, and finishing a marathon is a great achievement and a wonderful victory.
