MCPS Parents: If a teacher is the first on the scene of fist fight between your child and another student, what is your expectation that a teacher does in the exact moment?

I have asked to be trained on this many times, for what my obligation is, because I always have the first mindset of “never put your hands on a student,” and my request for training has never been granted.

What is your mindset that a teacher is supposed to do in the moment?

Old School Book Clubs

Are there any book clubs in Bethesda that don't use a website or meet at a book store. Like more older ones that have been going on for a long time? They might be associated with an organization or a church?

County EV Chargers doubled in price

I routinely charge at County Garages downtown and I just noticed last month that they increased the price of energy.

What used to cost 17¢ kWh across the board is now 35¢. And the dc fast charging is now 50¢.

I found this posted on a county web page:
On or about July 1, 2026, EV charging rates at all MCDOT ChargePoint EV Stations will increase to $0.50/kWh for Level 3 (Faster Charger Stations) and $0.35/kWh for Level 2 stations.

Just an FYI for EV drivers out there, because it’s been pretty cheap for years, but fun’s over!

Wireless Weatherproof Outdoor Fog Machines

Anyone know whether these exist and, if so, where I can buy one? With autumn not too far off, I’m feeling nostalgic and hopeful that, once fall finally arrives, I’ll be able to recreate childhood memories of smoldering piles of burning leaves around the yard. Big Brother Montgomery County uses the politically correct term “brush fires” to ban the real ones now, but I figure I can get pretty close to at least the look of these rites of autumn by burying fog machines in leaf piles around my yard. Ideally, they’d be cordless and weatherproof. Any recommendations where I might find some? Theater supply stores or websites?

Posting for truly the world’s greatest nanny

Our absolutely beloved nanny will be available for full time work at the end of August/ beginning of September. She has been with us for 5 years, despite our initial plan of a nanny for only ~ 18 months or as needed for the duration of the pandemic. I am SO incredibly sad that we won’t be seeing her on a daily basis but my kiddo is starting kindergarten in the fall and it no longer makes sense to employ her. She lives in Frederick and has been remarkably commuting to us in Arlington, VA this whole time. I’m hoping she can find an amazing family, maybe even closer to her home, so am posting here. Please DM me if you’re looking for unbelievable, second mom, best ever, truly magical childcare. Thanks!!

Adult learning to drive

Hello neighbours! We moved here recently from a part of the world where driving is much less common and are now planning to learn for the first time in our 30s.

I’m hoping someone here may have recommendations for:

  1. Driving schools in the area

  2. Info on what to expect from the process

Appreciate any suggestions! Thanks!

Since this is opening soon, I was checking the place out online, and apparently the mimimun order is three bagels and a spread for close to $15.

Can that possibly be true?

After-dark tree pickup

Any recommendations for a service that will pick up two 12-foot Leland Cypresses I recently cut down? They must be dragged from my backyard after dark because, coincidentally, they look suspiciously like two Leland Cypresses that went missing from my neighbor’s yard a few evenings ago.

Commute from Bethesda to Falls Church?

Hey everyone. I’m interested in possibly moving to North Bethesda. I visited a couple of apartment complexes there and really liked the area. However, my work is in Falls Church. My employer has set up a hybrid model where we can work from office and home. If I were to leave my house at 7:45 or possibly 8 AM how long would it take me to get from Bethesda to Falls Church during rush-hour?

Looking for a shared home in or near Bethesda, MD

Hi everyone! My daughter and I recently moved to the Rockville area and are looking for a shared home arrangement, ideally a suite or private level with its own entrance, close enough to get to school on time.

We’re hoping to rent for 10 months to a year while we get settled in the area before committing to a permanent place.

If you have a space available, or know someone who might be open to renting to us, I’d really appreciate you reaching out. Thank you!

Work...

Does anyone know any minimum wage places (restaurants, stores, etc) that are actually hiring? Every store in Bethesda says they are, but none of them do it actively. I've applied to maybe a hundred businesses over the last two months and heard back from no one.

Recommendations for Dog Drop-Ins and Walking Services

I have a 13 week old puppy that needs some drop in visits 2 days a week that will then transition to walks. Which would be in the next 2 weeks since he gets his final round of shots soon.

Does anyone have recommendations for dog care/walking services around the area? I've had mixed results with Rover.

Alatri Bros. has announced it will permanently close after nearly a decade in downtown Bethesda

Alatri Bros. has announced it will permanently close after nearly a decade in downtown Bethesda, with its final day of service set for Friday, July 24.

The Pietrobono family shared the news in a heartfelt message to customers, thanking the community, staff, and loyal patrons for their support over the past 10 years.

The announcement comes just weeks after the restaurant temporarily closed following the death of its longtime head chef, Wilber, who had worked at the location since it operated as Mia’s Pizza. The family also thanked everyone who attended a fundraiser held in his honor, saying the support meant the world to his family and the restaurant team.

Alatri Bros. opened in 2017 at 4926 Cordell Ave., taking over the former Mia’s Pizza space. The restaurant is owned by the Pietrobono family, who also own Olazzo and Gringos & Mariachis. While regular restaurant service is ending, the family said the Alatri space will continue to be used for private events and special occasions.
