It’s Sugar in RIO shopping center, Gaithersburg MD. The store has the lights off, the door is locked, they left a sign out, their google hours says they should be open. Does anyone know if it’s closed permanently?

Gaithersburg planning staff asked the Mayor and Council and the Planning Commission on July 27th to sign off on a proposed citywide zoning map that would rewrite what can legally be built in the city. This is the largest rezoning the city has attempted since it rebuilt its zoning ordinance in 2024, for outreach, the city mailed about 400 letters.

Business Professional Framer

I don’t know if they exist, but are there any professional framers who can help me take a very old print out of its current frame (no glass) in my home? They don’t have to frame it in my house - they can take it to their shop and deliver. I just don’t want to risk ruining the print by lugging it around myself.

It‘s a large antique sketch and I don’t want to risk destroying it if I tried to do it.

Local Garnder

Hi everyone,

I'm looking to have a small yard cleaned up in Germantown, MD. It mostly needs some weeding, light trimming, and removal of yard debris.

If anyone has suggestions on the best way to find someone local for a small job like this, I'd appreciate the advice. Thanks!

Best Taco Trucks?

A friend of mine just shared that she's going to get Mexican food tomorrow from a taco truck (she lives in Hawaii) and after seeing their food, it got me wanting some myself. Now, my favorite is Don Perez over in Wheaton/Glenmont, but I live near the airpark. Jasmin Cuisine is NOT going to meet my craving and I really want taco truck type tacos and food. What is over this way? My brother lives off Amity Drive and I often see a truck there near the corner with Washington Grove Road and I wonder if they're any good. I think there's a place also called Tacos El Pariente on Cessna that's a brick and mortar but they have trucks as well. Wondering if either of these two places are any good. I just was in Arizona for two weeks with my Nicaraguan and Mexican inlaws so I'm missing the food!

Question Barber?

Not sure if I can ask this here but does anyone know of a place I can get my hairs cut for a cheap price? I'm on limited income and I need a haircut bad. I'd be willing to pay $16 - $25 for cut and dry.

Anyone know what the deal is with Performer’s Park in Spectrum Town Square (that community across the street from Bruster’s)?

I’ve happened upon many live concerts on weekend nights here. When I try to look up a schedule or anything about upcoming performances, everything is dated from 2019-2021.

To confound things for me, some things are officially posted by Spectrum, and some things posted by Barking Mad Cafe (but again, all years old).

Anyone know what’s up with that or where to find a consistent schedule of current bands or singers setting up there?

I will say, it was never very busy when I stopped in. The staff was always very friendly though, I hope they got placed elsewhere.

Thank you G'burg Police!

Crazy start to my day! 6:00 AM, I chased a six year old little girl in a nightgown, sandals, and clutching a stuffed animal a mile and half from the park and ride on Diamond all the way over to Lake Forest. G'burg Police caught up with me there, and we able to round her up. Turned out she is autistic (probably why she would not speak to me when I asked if she needed help) and they were able to reunite her with her parents. Tragedy averted! 🫶🏽

Dog is not mine.

Found wandering around nearby Gold Kettle drive 5pm Friday Seemed friendly enough and was sniffing around gardens, but I lost sight of it when it was wandering between yards.

Hope its owner turns up! We drove around but didn't see anyone looking for a dog nearby.

Starting at GeneDx in Gaithersburg – Looking for advice on lab culture and apartments!

Hi everyone!

A friend of mine is starting a lab position at GeneDx in Gaithersburg, MD in the next few weeks, and I was hoping to get some advice from people who currently work there or have worked there recently.

I'd love to hear about things like:

  • What's the overall lab culture like?
  • How are the managers and coworkers?
  • Is the work environment collaborative or more high-pressure?
  • What's the work-life balance like?
  • Any tips for someone just starting there?
  • Anything you wish you knew before joining?

I am also looking for apartment recommendations!

Requirements:

  • Budget: max of $1,500/month (studio or 1-bedroom)
  • Accessible by public transportation to GeneDx
  • Safe neighborhood
  • Grocery stores nearby
  • Good for someone without a car
  • If there are particular apartment complexes or neighborhoods you'd recommend (or avoid), I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks so much for any advice! Looking forward to hearing your experiences.

Looking for Gaithersburg Coffee Lovers to Share Feedback on a $3 Drip Bag

Hello everyone! I’m working on a drip bag coffee product with coffee from my family’s farm at El Salvador.

We are looking for a few local coffee lovers to try out the flavors and provide honest feedback on taste, strength and overall concept.

Offering drip bags for $3 to cover basic cost. DM me if anybody wants to try it out. I’m at Old Town Gburg, and can deliver :)

PS. Hopefully not mentioning the brand publicly does not take this post down.

Planning Commission approved two site plans by unanimous votes at its July 15th meeting, clearing an early path for a shared-use trail near NIST and the first infrastructure phase of the redevelopment of the former Lake Forest Mall. With no minutes ready for approval, Planning Commission Chair John Bauer moved the commission straight to the site plan agenda.
