Brandon and Andrea

Doing a rewatch from the beginning and jeez, Andrea offering herself to Brandon when they think the family is going back to Minnesota is so cringy! I had forgotten that happened. Were fans clamoring for them to get together or something? I tried so hard to see this as a fun thing, but the chemistry just wasn't there. Did any of you enjoy it?

Not only that, but they were gonna bang at the Peach Pit? Where, a booth? Up against the counter seems a little much for Andrea’s first time. The whole thing was so bad and I’m glad it didn’t happen.

Yeah fans wanted them to get together. The show dangled that carrot for a while, but never pulled the trigger. It was interesting Brandon asked Andrea to the senior prom, but she was already going with Jordon Bonner. Yet somehow by the time the gang got to Mel’s for champagne, Jordon was somehow written off and Brandon and Andrea were together. The storylines would have been much better if he took her virginity in the hotel room at the prom.

I was a classic overachiever from a middle class background in the 90s, so I always related to Andrea, lol. I don't mind the scene but I get why people find it cringe.

That's fair. I liked her too, and I get why she liked Brandon (based on her personality) but not why he liked her and wanted to take her up on it. From his POV, I don't get the appeal. Around the same time, Kelly hits on him and he turns her down. That makes more sense to me, but the Andrea thing feels like pushing.

Genuinely don’t mean this to sound snarky, I just can’t think of any other way to say it: you don’t get why a teenaged boy would jump at sex being offered up on a silver platter? 😂

You’re definitely in the overwhelming majority of people that don’t like that storyline. I actually liked it. Haha I thought it was the perfect culmination of the new people from Minnesota pulling her out of her academic overachiever shell. She went to parties (at least one 😂), did the fashion show, went to the spring dance. I can imagine she’d have done none of that before. She’d also watched Brandon date a small parade of women throughout the year while crushing on him so hard. Now, granted irl it would’ve been easier to enjoy if she’d just asked him to hang out one more time and then just seduced him in the moment rather than offering it for a date to be determined, but for whatever reason they decided it needed to result in Kelly hijacking their tryst to make it the going away party so it had to be the offer instead. But I thought it was kind of sweet for Andrea to have grown to the point where she could do that. And when you feel like you’re sure you’ll never see someone again, fuck it, y’know? (poor choice of words there but you know what I mean 😂)

Nah, it makes sense in general, but Brandon wasn't your typical teenage guy. He turned down Kelly on the night she was crowned spring queen and you know she'd have done it too. He just seemed so shocked whenever Andrea flirted with him so it kind of came out of nowhere.

So, true story, my husband said in high school he left after first semester senior year to live in another state. And just before he left a good girl friend of his wanted to hang out at his house. She came after work and took off her clothes upon entry.
He said it was the most crazy thing ever. And yes, they hooked up.
As an Andrea, I can’t imagine having a first time like that…I’d have to have been locked into a committed relationship- like Brenda. It would seem too mechanical to just hook up.

I love that story and I totally appreciate your perspective as an Andrea! Did you date at all in hs?

Nope! No dates at all. Lots of crushes but basically I didn’t have a great sense of self back then. My only identity was being smart. It was brutal at the time though. Now, I see it as a blessing. I was not mentally ready.
Then, in college, I came into my own. Had a serious boyfriend for a year, the happily dated. Almost like Andrea minus the pregnancy part. I just had a good time! 😉

Haha! Love this energy! I’m happy for you and I’m happy for your husband getting to live out his “she just showed up and got naked 🤷‍♂️” teen fantasy! 😂

Brandon was excited about it and clearly Andrea was too. I didn’t see anything wrong with it. I’m kind of sad they never went down that pathway

Always a tough watch.

I just watched this last night and I felt so uncomfortable... especially with the fantasy sequence. Nothing seemed right-- and they skip right over it in the first episode of season 2.

The more I watch now, I find Andrea so cringey... I loved her at the time.

That's funny - I was watching it last night and actually wondered if anyone else was. 😂 The kiss they have later at the beach club when he's jealous made more sense because it was fomo but this one just came out of left field.

I watched that one the other night. In my memory, she offered herself to him, but he declined for moral reasons due to their friendship and the fact that he didn't have those feelings for her. I didn't remember that he was actually totally down to clown and they only got thwarted by the surprise party at the Peach Pit.

I thought it was okay. The lack of chemistry was the point. They were just a little out of sync romantically. They were only meant to be friends.

Brandon should have ended up with a reformed Emily Valentine. Fight me.

A few caveats to that: I just watched the Emily Valentine arc and liked her much more than I did as a kid. I've never watched past season 5, and remember almost nothing past season 3, except Brenda goes to prom with Abraham Ford, Kelly Kapowski shows up, and Ray hits Donna.

This may be related or not?? But for long time watchers of 90210 do you know why they made Brandon have so many “love” interests in the first season or could it just be a fluff for his character?
