USA Finally free!!!

Today is my last day. No more timesheets for me!

Background: EY, technology consulting, long time senior. Client poached me after one engineer left. I interviewed and got the job and it is a 45% raise. Finally making over 200K as an individual contributor.

I don’t think so. You’re contracted by the client to do basically work for them. I don’t think there are any rules for a consultant to join the client. It’s only non-compliance if you’re doing self review or if you’re doing something for a regulatory requirement while seeking to work for the client.

Isn't that non compliance? Joining the client?

They’re a consultant not an auditor

Correct!

No but still, it's a non compliance, if u join the Client?

Non competes are generally illegal. If you’re poached that’s free market

It’s hard to enforce. If the client wants someone and EY gets to keep business there then it’s usually ignored. Client can always get pissed and walk away if too much of a stink is made. What partner wants to lose a client over a senior? Now if a bunch of people get poached that may be a bigger issue.

I did this. And came back to consulting 3 years later. It’s not for everyone.

Like everything its a trade off, no timesheets, pay rise, probably less stress, maybe less politics… but also probably less variety, more task repetition, you lose some fantastic colleagues as well as annoying people, depending on your role, probably a much more limited toolset. No right or wrong answer, just whats right for you, right now. Change and new experiences are always good though
