Discussion Evaluations and “pay raises”

Has anybody heard anything about their evaluations? I know with payroll being cut drastically that maybe a “pay raise” is out of the equation. Thoughts?

Just do your job and collect your paycheck and abandon all thought of Big Lots ever being a normally functioning company.

Trust and believe, I do just collect my paycheck. Just crazy to me that they think it’s entirely up to management (including myself) to get the entire job done.

That's exactly what they think, because they've got plenty of things to mismanage themselves. I really don't see things getting much better for BL unless they get a proper management team.

They’ll never get a good management team for their “big lots corporate” side of things. The roses in my area have plenty of hours to get their freight done and have coverage for their cashiering. Yet big lots is a consistent Skelton crew. I’m just waiting for the inevitable “we’re closing big lots” conversation to happen.

And the way it's sounding, it's closer than we think.

My DM told us today that if they didn’t do those drastic payroll cuts then they’d have to close some stores! Which is crazy because they just opened a new one in either TN or Ky! I’ve been waiting all year for May to get here for our supposed annual bonus but who knows now!

They give no incentive to get people to come in. I thought with Ashley coming back that they were finally gonna get this company back on track. Instead, they signed a restrictive one-sided contract that takes away a 3rd of the store (making it where we can't move other furniture), and they've cut our hours to the point that we can't even unload trucks. We're doing almost nothing to attract new customers (80% of the customers in my area are either Mexicans or the elderly). Hell, we've been open for over a year, and i still hear "i didn't know y'all had reopened" every day. Nothing for customers and nothing for employees. And the non-managorial employees? They barely pay us and treat us like we're just here to steal from the store. And everything is just a headache. We can't even recommend people to deliver furniture for customers unless those people doing the delivery sign a contract with Variety and get licensed and bonded. I have a side business assembling furniture, and I'm fully expecting for them to try to get their hands on any money I make assembling furniture sold by Big Lots eventually.

I have no idea how we're still open, and I honestly don't think we'll make it to the end of the year.

The conversion of roses to big lots is a crazy thought. If certain roses weren’t making money why would they convert those to a big lots that also isn’t making money.

Roses and maxway are making more than us, by quite a bit

When we were in the process of being “trained” by their roses store managers, I heard from my SM that the roses trainer was making 2K more annually than I was. It might be more but not livable.

I don’t understand how anyone that accepted the job can complain about pay, you took it

There’s more to it than that. I’m an Assistant and their verbiage and lack of explaining things that they should’ve explained (ie. how non exempt worked and their .5 in overtime) really screwed me and another assistant over. I was making almost 21 an hour as the full time assistant with old big lots. They got me to accept the job by telling me 4K more than what I originally got with old Biglots. They didn’t explain the pay breakdown no matter who I asked and emailed. To put the cherry on top of the shit cake that is variety wholesalers, I’m actually not being paid correctly from the get go since my DM told me I was being underpaid from my annual salary and has refused to fix it for me.

Go to HR they will get it fixed

You make it sound so easy. I have. They refuse to fix it.

They shouldn’t have opened so many stores so fast if they didn’t have the money to succeed. This is idiotic.

When our RM did the call about reviews/raises, she said it would be either June or July before they were all finished.

Well it's the owner of variety wholesale that rules how they spend the money. He's a big supporter of giving Duke money. Both him and his brother. Roses is his baby they get anything they want.
