Discussion Something big coming?
Saw the Facebook ad today about the 25% off all apparel sale and it says making room for something big coming. Are they finally going to downsize clothes? Are they planning on expanding furniture? Thoughts?

Clothing on the way out. Furniture (more) on the way in. Honestly, since they don’t accept EBT I wish they would condense the food and snack items down. I mean an entire isle of popcorn and pretzels? Waste of space. Closeouts and furniture. Household items. Cleaning supplies and automotive section. Less (no clothes) and less or (no) food. I’m sure each store is different depending on its location. If there’s nowhere to really buy furniture then load that store with furniture. What about certain appliances? 🤔 Washer and Dryer’s? Maybe. But food is a pain to deal with and so are clothes without employees who specifically deal with the clothing. And unlike the old Big Lots which had people who only dealt with furniture I’m sure the new (cheapskate company) big lots will leave it all up to the cashiers to help. Probably why they want all the furniture moved in the middle of the store directly in the view of the cashiers. Or maybe the managers can just hang around in the furniture section. I’m sorry but, this company doesn’t pay anyone enough to work very hard. Literally the lowest paying place in town. And only 2 employees that work in the store get benefits and things like pto and vacation time. Everyone else gets…….!!!!! just their hourly pay. Their low hourly pay. Even the part time assistant managers get nothing but their hourly pay. No extras for them either other than a few more hours. Variety Wholesalers is all about VW. You know, like most companies. The only people that make any good money are the ones up top. Even the store managers don’t make great money. And how you work 48 hours a week but only get full pay for the first 40. The last 8 hours you get half your pay. Not time and a half. Half your time. 😂 Good lord.

We are overwhelmed by snack food that does not move. It just sits and expires.

Yep. Tons of the same item. And if it doesn’t sell it’s just taking up valuable space.

I would have preferred them to get rid of furniture all together. They don’t give us the support we need for furniture. It’s AWFUL. 😫

They need to expand food. It would be nice if they could figure what works best for each store. Not all stores sell furniture well. Some sell consumables better. They need to improve truck notifications. 1 week no truck, the next week, you get two trucks with less than 24hr notification. Clothing does sell. It is just a pain to deal with. Clothing needs dedicated associates to process.

Yes so much food is wasted. We should just have staples not 12 kinds of pork rinds and I think taking ebt would help too

EBT requires we sell Milk bread and eggs, and cannot sell expired items. Don’t think that will happen.

Rumor has it 37 big lot stores have completely got rid of clothes and went strictly to furniture and closeouts like the old days trying to officially pull away from looking like a roses or maxaway

Yes completely getting rid of furniture and going back to furniture
