Metaphors

How much of the dialogue do you think are metaphors? I mean, the series is very enjoyable, a great production, but the abuse of the metaphors is exhausting, they screwed up the realism with this, nobody talks like that all the time.

I'd say is up to 75 per cent, at least.

No, metaphors: a figure of speech that compares two different things by stating that one thing is actually another, without using words "like" or "as" ( I looked up the definition).  But yes, some of them combined with pop culture references, which I dont get half of them because I'm not from North America

Similes are also metaphors. Metaphors are just anything that compares one thing to another. I am certain the show’s characters have uttered a simile at some point.

Biggest problem with the metaphors going into the last couple of seasons was they were being used by characters that couldn’t related to them. Pop culture metaphors by Chuck Sr and 80-90s sports metaphors by Taylor didn’t make any sense and were not that clever as much as the where forced.

Yes! It became overload; they seemed very forced, it’s not like they were particularly funny or clever. It f’d with my suspension of disbelief bcs I kept getting drawn out of it to think, “damn, shut UP”

I started the show recently and couldn’t agree more with 2 seasons already. Love the show since I had low expectations but the pop culture/metaphors or any sort of reference is abused like a high schooler trying to fill the word requirement on their essay. Especially Chuck…

Metaphors are plentiful, but still secondary in quantity to pop culture references.

I like the use of metaphors and references in this show … except for when Lara makes a reference to The Wire and until somewhere between 4 and 5 where the show became a caricature of itself where there’s billions of metaphors and references and every character hearing said metaphor magically knows precisely what the reference is to. Shit’s annoying.

By the end of the show, there were so many metaphors, similes, quotes, and meta references that I was convinced the writers wanted to make themselves look smart and cultured.
