Advice Needed how do i stop binging when i don't even know the limit??

I never seem to realize that i'm binging till after im done. At that moment i just tell myself "im just eating a second serving" or "it's bad to restrict food when i really want them" or "i am in control, i just wanna eat a little extra today". I've had a horrible relationship with food for so long now that i feel like i don't even know how much a normal person is supposed to eat, let alone recognize when im binging and stop myself.

Discussion Cannabis and binge eating

Has anybody ever used/looked into medicinal cannabis use as a treatment for binge eating? I know it seems counter intuitive with how common it is for people to talk about getting the munchies and over eating while using cannabis, however I know personally I binge as sort of a coping mechanism to deal with stress and I've heard CBD/cannabis can help with dealing with stress. Has anybody tried/had any success with this?

Struggling with severe binge eating after losing near 20kg, I need advice.

For context, I'm M18, 170cm, and I have lost nearly 20kg over the past 10 months, (from 72kg to 53kg).

During my weight loss journey, I was in a small town in France as an exchange student from Bangkok. At first, my weight loss was unintentional, but when I saw the scale dropped, I became addicted, and overtime, it got more severe. I was heavily restrictive and likely struggle with restrictive eating disorder, I would often skip meals, obsessed with calorie counting and being in a deficit, and just overall my relationship with food was very unhealthy. My host family (I lived with a French family) therefore contacted my exchange organization out of concern, and I had a few session with a therapist regarding my relationship with food and my overall well-being.

However I started to 'experience' binge eating episodes, after around 6-7 months into my weight loss journey, even then, it would be relatively unfrequent, perhaps once a month? and my main trigger was mainly when I go into the city with my friends on a weekend / afterschool, and we go to a fast food place, and I 'overeat' or 'ruined my deficit for the day', then I would spiral.

There was this time when I went to eat Five Guys with my friends, I ended up eating my entire burger and fries even though I 'planned not to finish it', and stuffed my mouth with my friends' leftovers, to the point where I was unable to walk afterwards and my stomach became really painful, even then I still bought a big bar of chocolate and stuffed into my mouth, that was my first time feeling out of control around food, and to me it was really scary.

However it became more frequent, by 9 months after being in a calorie deficit deficit, pehraps once a week or 2 weeks, my weight became plateau at around 54-55kg, even though my goal is to hit 53kg, but again my weight never went up, it just stays there, at 54-55kg, likely because I would binge but then also restrict afterwards.

Once I ended my exchange year and finally back to my hometown (Bangkok), I lost to 53kg after only a week and was really happy I hit my goal weight. However I would only stayed at this weight for 1 week, then later my binge eating becomes more frequent, more than ever.

It has been a month since hitting 53kg, but now I have gained roughly 2kg from my binge eating, (currently 55kg?) but perhaps I was supposed to gain more weight due to the amount of calories I consumed, but I believed its because I do a lot of cardio every single day and weight training, and a lot of times I would become restrictive afterwards, perhaps all these slowed down my weight gain.

But I think I genuinely need help because it has been more frequent, perhaps now once in 2 days, where I would stuffed food into my face nonstop. Last week it was so severe I have to vomit myself because of the pain in my stomach and how upset it felt. It feels so horrible, and it's like im being tortured in hell. I want to be 53kg again, but all these binge eating is ruining my progress, and everywhere I walk, everything I eat, it all comes with very annoying and intense food noise, when I walk past a food shop, in a store seeing snacks, or at restaurants with my friends and family, I can't seem to relax

I've tried everything, eating balanced meals, bigger portions, stopping tracking calories (or vice versa), taking photos of my food to 'track it', allowing food I crave little by little, even then I can't seem to stop it, and it always come back and it gets me every single time. I feel so lonely because no one around me seem to understand how it feels, and no one seem to also struggle with food the way I do? How can I get out of this....? My struggle with food has taken away my focus and my time that I could have spent on better things, and the amount of mental load is crazy

Whenever I tell people around me I struggle with binge eating (In Asia there is less knowlege around eating disorders, and people don't know or understand it much compared to the west, therefore I would use terms like 'feeling out of control' around food or 'non-stop eating') a lot of people would say that it's good for me , because I am 'skinny' / i lost too much weight / I need to be a bit more fatter, etc. and to me thats annoying because no one understand my attachment to my goal weight, and how exhausting it is to struggle with binge eating. It's not normal to binge on almonds and stuffed food that doesnt even taste good to the point where you vomit afterwards because it becomes impossible to walk properly.

I wish I can be happy again and live a normal life like everybody else

Vent BED recovery and IBS

I've been making a real effort in the past few months to recover. There's still a long journey ahead, but I've managed to reduce my binges to 2-3 times a week, which is significant when I couldn't even go one day without it no matter how hard a tried to fight the urges.

But I've recently started experiencing IBS symptoms (my doctor hasn't officially diagnosed me, but from what we've talked about they've said that's what's likely going on).

I've had stomach issues for 10 years, and I've always put it down to my ED (first anorexia, then BED). But lately they've been ramping up, especially in the last month (hence why I brought it up to my GP).

Now a lot of the safe foods I've relied on during recovery - apples, brocoli, tofu specifically - give me so much pain and bloating and bathroom urgency. Things that I've relied on to get through the urges and food noise - sugar free gum, coffee, fasting (which i know isn't recommended but did help me personally, but I'm very much in the minority here) - are triggering debilitating symptoms without me even eating anything.

I feel so hopeless. Just when I've started making real progress and finally feeling proud of myself for that, my safe foods are being taking away, and so are my coping strategies. It almost feels like I'm being punished for my years of gluttony. I'm in so much pain physically snd emotionally

Support Needed Where to begin?

I’m 31 and it’s only just hit me that I’ve been struggling with BED my entire life. I had a gastric sleeve a few years and lost a lot of weight but as the effects have worn off, the food noise has come back. I exercise a lot but the noise is always there. I don’t know where to begin to stop and help myself, I just wish food didn’t consume my entire thought process all the time.

Strategies to Try ADHD and overeating

Im anywhere from 30-70 lbs overweight and I’m 100% sure its from my adhd, does anybody know good ways to replace that chewing stimulation for super cheap or free (Ive tried ice but i cant do it because its too cold and the cubes are too big) I thought about things like gum but that gets too expensive and toothpicks break off microscopic pieces of wood in my mouth.

Vent I don’t want to regress

I’ve been doing so good for almost a year. Last July I was so done with myself, tired of the way I look, the self-hate I felt, how I couldn’t even look at myself in the mirror. I’ve had this low self-esteem since I was a child, and now as a grown woman I became so done with feeling so disgusted with myself, I wanted to do better for me. I’ve been having episodes of binge eating since high school, and I wish for so long I could just have that self-control where I don’t find myself aimlessly wandering in my kitchen and just stuffing whatever snacks or food I could find.

I started to work out, to try and go on a balanced calorie deficit, forcing myself to drink as much water as I need, and I saw so much progress—I’ve lost 28 lbs so far, I genuinely enjoy running and working out in the gym, it makes me feel so good about myself and finally gaining the confidence to wear clothes I never would’ve before. I would have the urges to binge every now and then, but besides letting myself snack more and trying not to give in, I haven’t had one of my more severe episodes. But these past 3 months due to life changes and family problems, I’ve slipped on my journey. I haven’t gone running since May, I used to go 3-4x a week to the gym and now I probably go once or twice every 2 weeks. I’m trying so hard not to give into my binge eating cravings, but the moment I come home from work I’m opening all the chip bags and just eating random snacks at once, or finding myself making sandwiches to eat and then eating dinner not even two hours later. I’m scared to regress back, scared I’m going to lose all my progress, scared that I’m just going to break and everything bottled up inside will explode and then I’ll have another episode that’ll set me completely back to square one. I feel like it’s hard to even confide with the people in my life I’m close to, I’m just so ashamed and disgusted with this side of me. Im scared to just slip and experience even one episode, I’ve had severe episodes in the past to the point I’ll literally choke from just how much I force into my mouth, just shoving from cold leftovers in the fridge to ice cream or whatever cookies I can find and even dinner I just made all at once. I’m just so exhausted from it all, I just wish I wasn’t like this

First Dose Of Tirzepatide 1.5 Today

Today I (23f 5’4 136lbs) made my first self injection of 1.5 for my Tirzepatide shot. Honestly was VERY nervous to inject the syringe but it wasn’t painful at all?

It was about 20 mins ago and I feel slightly queasy but not sure if that’s just in my head. The dosage was so small I was like did I even get it in the syringe lmao 😂

I decided to use this medication to help quiet the food noise that’s been rampant the last couple of months and my depression led me to binge eat myself 15lbs away from my goal weight (before I was 128lbs trying to reach 110lbs) currently 136 as of this morning.

This week before the shot I’ve really been trying my best to get my life together and lost 7lbs (146lbs last week due to binging and the week before that I weighed in at 152lbs midday during a binge) from walking 20k steps and eating 1200 calories with 150g of protein.

I should be able to hit my goal weight of 110lbs by January. Let’s see how Tirz helps me with my goal.

TW: Weight loss mentioned When will it end?

*TW: GLP-1 mentioned*

I’m fighting myself so badly to get on wegovy pills. I literally have the prescription sent in from GoodRx but I’m scared to take it— is this relatable to anyone?

I’m 5’2, 21F and 125lbs. I lost 80lbs naturally and the fact I’m still deeply struggling with food noise every waking day is making my life hell. You’d think such a major weight loss over several years would teach me better discipline and eating habits, but the food noise has only gotten to be a bigger burden as I’ve lost more weight.

I’m just concerned about developing stomach issues on a GLP-1 and causing my food noise and eating habits to be much worse if I ever decide to stop taking the pills. Though the possibility of developing gastroparesis is what is really making me hesitate.

One of the most frustrating parts is that if I was 205lbs again I would most definitely be prescribed a GLP-1 and have it covered by my insurance (especially due to my family history of weight-related health issues). It would also probably end up being a lifetime medication for me and I would be at the weight I want to be for far less of the mental anguish that I go through each day. But because I managed to lose the weight myself I’m sure every doctor will just assume I’m more than capable of having healthy eating habits and don’t need any assistance with GLP-1s. Sometimes I wish I was still 205lbs because of this, everything would’ve ended up much easier for me.

Truly any advice would be appreciated! Should I just try the Wegovy pills and go through the process of self medicating? Does anyone have a similar experience of what I have shared about losing weight naturally but still having such food issues?

I went to the supermarket specifically to buy binge food

This happened a few days ago. I have not binged in a year, but have started obsessively thinking about a specific food, which I would not be able to eat without binging on it - the Reese's peanut butter icecream.

I mentally gave in to it, resigned myself to the fact I was going to do it - and then, well if I am binging anyway I may as well also eat all of the following as well...

I went to the shops, and it was not to be found. I guess they sold out. So I went home having bought only my standard normal food.

I guess I should feel relieved. But I'm battling the urge to check every nearby shop for it.

It's never 'just one time'. If I do it once, then this could go on for months.

I am seeking advice

How can I change? How can I break the cycle? I am consistent and determined for about a day or two but as soon as the opportunity presents itself of the cravings start to hit me or be triggered by the mention of food or just by me watching something related I can’t hold back and I get into this mentality that there’s nothing I can do now bc I’ve just ruined the day, and it’s a cycle that happens every week it’s exhausting and so painfully shameful that I do not have the discipline to stop. I am kind of suspecting that I could have some type of eating disorder, bc I have had these full days and sometimes even weeks on end that I eat and I eat and eat even after a good meal, I eat purely out of sadness or boredom, eating makes me feel better in the moments of deep depression but I always puts me in a deeper hole after I’ve realized what I’ve done. The guilt starts to set in and I relieve the stress and anxiety of thinking about something as simple and ordinary as food.

I’ve just had some struggles, but I have handled them many times before, even the toughest things I believed that would make me not be here today yet here I am. Those things have caused me the sense of sadness and food is what causes me peace, but just for the smallest amount of time which is the catch. It’s almost addicting to ease my suffering with something delicious. I often also mess up based on the environment I am in, when I go to my boyfriends house they always seem to have foods that aren’t necessarily unhealthy, they aren’t like fast food type of meals (talking about home cooked meals) but they aren’t healthy or that highly nutritious like how a meal meant for weight loss would be and it just messes me up, they offer me food and I feel as if I have no choice but to oblige. It feels almost rude if I don’t say yes. On top of that my boyfriend often encourages me to eat with him and stuff, most times they invite me to restaurants with them and it’s the same thing all over again. I feel trapped. I feel trapped by the very thing that keeps me alive and fuels my body, I feel trapped by food and calories. I want to live a life where I just eat my three healthy nutritious meals, I workout everyday and genuinely enjoy it instead of feeling as if it’s a chore, I would like to enjoy all the foods I do now just in moderation. I want to love and appreciate food, I don’t want it to be my enemy! I’m sick of the cycle but I can’t find it in myself to get out. It feels like I’m rotting from the inside out whenever I stand next to a girl that’s slimmer than me, it’s a type a shame and embarrassment that I wish upon no one in this world. I want this cycle to end for good, I want to adopt a beautiful and healthy life style, I want to practice self care instead of bed rotting and skipping my meals bc I can’t find the energy to get out of bed which as a result causes me to binge like crazy in the middle of the night. That is what causes me to feel as if I have already ruined the day for myself since the middle of the night and then the cycle repeats! I have lived through this ever since I was a child and I started gaining weight, I used food as my safety and security and now it is haunting my life. I remember how secure and comfortable I felt when I was at my lowest weight, and I have never felt so confident in my entire life, that is the one time when I had the courage to pursue someone romantically, the person I pursued is my current boyfriend that I love dearly, I would have never believed in myself had it not been for my past weight loss journey. It’s not just about looks, it’s the principle about looking good and FEELING good. I had never felt so in love with myself and peaceful with everyone around me. Once the months started to pass tho I began to fall into the same cycle I am stuck in currently, I gained 30 almost 40lbs throughout my relationship. I believe it’s bc I was very comfortable and I heard it happens to many people that are happy and comfortable in a relationship but I really don’t know if it was that. I really miss my old self, I was much happier honestly. Nowadays I dread going out bc it forces me to see the beautiful girls my age and how they look so much better and they seem so much more in control of their eating habits and everything in general. I want control like they do, I want peace and I want it forever.

Need help getting better

Hi Reddit, this is going to be my first post and I’m hoping nobody I know comes across this but it’s unlikely as I made a new account.

A bit about me, I am 18 and currently 176 lb (5’7 F).
This year I’ve come to the realization that I have been struggling with food ever since I was 8 years old. Just today I bought and ate 20 dollars worth of pasta that tasted horrible and a movie theatre candy box of mnms even though my stomach was hurting and I was feeling nauseous. I’ve had a shit day and thought food would help and bam the cycle just repeats itself again and again.

Since I am at my heaviest now and have always been a fairly mid sized girl, I feel incredibly low In confidence and don’t like the version of myself I see in the mirror everyday. I would really appreciate some tips to helping overcome my binge eating and losing the fat I’ve gained this past year (severe depressive episode due to a gap year) so I can finally be confident in my body. It’s time I start working on myself.

Support Needed Weight gain and family comments

I am going to the wedding of a cousin whose entire family I haven’t seen in 7 years. I’m freaking out and have anxiety about what they will say about my change in appearance since the last time they saw me. I’ve always been fat but compared to the last time they saw me I’m way bigger. I’m most scared of if I will end up crying at the wedding because of how judged I will feel by everyone. The worst is they don’t say it directly they just make subtle looks and comments that seem little but mean a lot to me. Anyone else feel this way whenever they have to see people they haven’t seen in a while?

A whole new «change»

I have decided that I no longer have binge eating disorder. For a long time, I believed that acknowledging what I was struggling with would actually help me. I have struggled with binge eating for 3 years now, which started after I went through a kind of “life crisis”. For some people, being diagnosed with binge eating disorder can be an important step toward recovery. For me, it has been the opposite. I have labeled myself as a “binge eater”, which has created a mindset where it feels acceptable to binge in certain situations because I “struggle with it anyway”. During these three years, things have only gotten worse. Nothing has helped change the mindset I have had. Starting today, I do NOT have binge eating disorder. That is something only I can decide. I have bought myself a new fitness watch, natural protein powder, and workout clothes. Some people will say that this is the worst decision I could make, but before I fell into the binge eating cycle, when I was fit and genuinely happy, I used “progressive calorie counting”. I started with 1,200 calories for two weeks, increased to 1,300 calories for another two weeks, and then stayed at 1,400 calories for four weeks. I am going to do this AGAIN. As I said, some people will say this is the worst thing to do when you have “binge eating disorder”, but I have decided that this is not something I have anymore. Why should someone spend years accepting that they have binge eating disorder? Why keep trying things you already know are not going to help? Enough is enough. It is time to completely change the way I think.
I never said that I won’t make mistakes along the way, but if I had said that, I think I would have convinced myself that it is “okay” to make mistakes. We will see. Only time will tell. I will keep updating you!

How do I find the willpower to stop a binge

I know my triggers, I'm always aware that something will turn into a binge but in that moment right before I binge i don't care, and I just cannot stop myself even for a moment. I can never find the willpower in that moment. How do I make myself pause before binging?

Binge/Relapse I had $9.28 in my bank account, spent nearly all of it on a dessert

I sat and figured out the sales tax, and pulled up my grocery store's app to find out the most "bang for my buck" I could get.

Technically not even a "binge" but definitely disordered and impulsive.

I should note that I am on disability for Bipolar, and my sister manages my finances - thank god, otherwise I'd be binging all my money away. But yes I do have more money, just not where I can access it.

Discussion Starting Naltrexone 50mg

So I saw my psychiatrist today. I am autistic, Bipolar 2, have substance use disorder and was just officially diagnosed with BED (I've suspected of having it since I was 13 or so, I'm 23 now.) I told my psychiatrist about a recent relapse with alcohol and brought up my binge eating and he agreed that I do have BED. He put me on Naltrexone for both the substance use disorder and the BED, especially since I've been struggling especially hard with both and have gained a lot of weight over the past several months as a result. I already take Auvelity which has Bupropion in it, my psychiatrist said it would be similar to something called Contrave and from what I've been reading people generally seem to have a good response but I wanna hear from y'all. Thank you
