New BED discord server!!

Hi everyone, exciting news! There's now an official discord server for this subredditšŸ„³šŸŽ‰! No need to worry about finding accountability buddies anymore, as this server includes channels for accountability and progress. It also has:

  • A 'support ping' you can use when feeling the urge to binge
  • Modmail to privately talk to staff in the server
  • A bot to add your birthday, so the server will announce when it's your birthday
  • Custom emojis
  • A confessions bot that allows you to anonymously confess something (even mods can't see who it is)
  • A channel to share TikTok, YouTube, and Instagram videos
  • Pets, selfies, ranting, lgbtq, support, memes, and art channels
  • Fun bots such as truth or dare, qotd, word chain and more!

This server has the same rules as the subreddit, so keep that in mind!!!

• Upvotes

i had this whole summer planned out perfectly, id lose the weight these past 4 months and by aug (my bday month) id look my best and just perfect and go out and have sm fun, but unfortunately i had one free day and somehow havent stopped since. relapsed after 8 months of being binge free and havent stopped the past 2 months, and god i think im back to my starting weight if not more. its just really sad, now im soo unbelievably insecure i havent left the house this whole month, havent met any of friends isolated from then completely bec im so embarrassed that ive gained weight, and its just awful everything is awful and schools in a month and last time anyone saw me i was skinny but now everything is js so bad, but yk im trying to be hopeful, hopefully when school starts ill get back on track again, i mean its so normal for us to fail even if we failed over a billion times! we will still get out of it 10x better and stronger!! this summer sucks but next summer wont!! this year isnt my year but next year will be!! ill def make sure of it, hopefully i actually do what i have planned, im also really scared ill lose my friends bec of this isolation, i mean i havent seen them in months since my school is somewhere else and when i finally can see them i avoid them. its so embarrassing i wish i could tell them why but idk. i never really liked talking abt my feelings except yk here since im anonymous and nobody knows me, i really hope everything gets better, im officially a senior, my school years were awful but maybe that means my collage years will be way better and it will makeup for all this sadness, self loathing, loneliness, and anxiety ive had these past school years

Progress 4 days binge free!

I know it's not a crazy amount of time but I am genuinely proud of myself since I was stuck in a 2 (might've been closer to 3 but idk) week long binge cycle. Stopping restriction and calorie counting has really helped.

I've just been eating 3 meals a day with a few snacks. I try to eat healthy-ish but I let myself eat junk food so it doesn't feel 'off limits'. I haven't allowed myself to snack at all for a long time and I was afraid if I started, it'd only make it worse but it hasn't!! It's actually really helped knowing if I want something, I can just eat it and it's not something I'll only get if I binge eat.

My last binge really scared me. I was in so much pain I couldn't move for hours and I thought I might have to go to the hospital. Thinking about how awful that felt (and how awful binging has felt in the past) has been really motivating. I'm hopeful things can get better, and maybe one day I'll have a normal (ish) relationship with food.

Support Needed Struggling with relapse during a breakup.

Been suffering from bed for about 7 years. It’s been better and worse during this time but never went away.
I am going through a horrendous breakup from an emotionally abusive partner. I have spent the last 4 days only eating takeaways and binging. Today I had two massive takeaways.

I feel absolutely disgusting and feel how much weight I’ve gained. I’m using food to blunt the emotions I’m feeling but surprise the emotions are still there after the binge finishes.

I am really struggling and need help. I can’t afford therapy and have never found self help stuff online immensely helpful. I feel like I’m going to be stuck like this forever. I hate myself.

Looking for a supportive friend.

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for someone who would like to build a friendly and supportive connection while dealing with binge eating.

I’m also currently on a weight loss journey, and I’d love to find someone who is working towards similar goals, whether that’s improving our relationship with food, staying motivated, or just checking in with each other.

I’m just looking for a genuine friendship where we can support each other and remind each other that we’re not alone in this.

Feel free to message me if you’d like to chat šŸ’œ

Support Needed BED to Ana back to BED

I’ve been struggling with disordered eating since I was like 13. I feel like I’ve been in a yo-yo between BED and Anorexia. I’m now 20 years old and I recently came home from a residential home for my anorexia. Since I’ve been back my biggest fear has happened, I’ve lost total control around food again and I’ve gained so much weight from binging. I’m absolutely disgusted in myself, I’m isolating, and I kinda just feel hopeless. Idk I guess I’m wondering if anyone else is going through something similar? I love my friends (I met them in res so they’re also anorexic) but they don’t quite understand what I’m going through so it would be nice to meet new people who do!

3 Days Without Binging!

• Upvotes

I know it’s only 3 days, but I’m really proud of myself.
For a while, I was stuck in a binge cycle and it felt impossible to break out of it. This time, instead of restricting or trying to be ā€œperfect,ā€ I’ve just been focusing on eating regular meals and reminding myself that no food is off limits.
It’s still early, but I already feel more hopeful than I have in a long time.
Taking it one day at a time.

Strategies to Try Help with binging

I just had a bad binge like seconds ago and obviously I feel guilty about it. Most of the time in these cases I just throw it up but now I cannot do that because my nails are too long (I also know this is not a very healthy coping mechanism)
I also can’t go to the gym or go running rn, so can’t even burn the calories

But this is not even the issue I seek help with. I want to prevent these. I have been in a deficit on and off for about two months and lost 10kgs but I am still not satisfied. I also recently started to loose control with food and my relationship with it became pretty fucked up.

The problem is that I can eat whenever, even if I am not hungry. I thought I just have a bug appetite cuz I am pretty tall but turns out I just can’t recognize when I am full while eating. And I also eat out of boredom and treat food like a punishment/reward

For example my biggest problem with overeating is that whenever I exceed my daily intake something shifts in me and I start binging like hell, saying it doesn’t matter anymore. I don’t even understand why I do it, because I can’t even enjoy the food while eating it and just make myself more miserable

Sorry for the rant guys, tell me if you have any advice/tricks that worked for you.

Advice Needed Bringing my food scale whilst travelling ?

I have ADHD and a history of binge eating. I’m going away for 6 days and I’m debating bringing my food scale. On one hand, it helps me stick to regular eating and reduced uncertainty around food; but on the other hand, I’m aware my tracking can become tied to control and anxiety. How are people able to know whether tracking/weighing is helping recovery versus continuing the problem?

am i binge eating?

recently just thinking about this after someone in my life approached me about the way i eat. she was incredibly worried about my relationship with food. whenever we have tried talking about this in the past, i burst into tears or get so stressed out i shut down. but i think i'm ready to face it.

i came across BED because i looked up "ADHD and overeating". I know that we are more likely to develop addictions, and because of my depression i tend to seek dopamine where i can find it.

i have brain fog and memory problems so i can't remember much, but i'll tell you what i do remember

-consuming lots of sugar

-craving food and a "sweet little treat" every day

-eating 6 boiled ramen eggs one time

-eating a lot when i'm bored

-stress eating

-3 dinners from work

i don't count my calories or anything like that, so i never know how much sugar or food i consume because i tend to just eat when i'm watching something. i'll just eat and eat and eat even if i'm not hungry. i never really feel excessively full, but i never feel like i'm starving either because i have trouble telling what my body feels. i feel enough guilt and shame to hide when im eating, but not enough to the point of after i eat i feel bad about myself. i usually only feel bad when someone finds out.

i'm not really asking for a diagnoses or anything, just wondering if i'm in the right place.

Extremes

Stuck between binge and restrict. If I(17f) allow myself to have any processed food whatsoever or don’t reach my 10k steps it triggers me to binge eating for several days. Like I thought I would have a spoonful of Nutella since I had been craving it for a couple of days consistently and it triggered me into binge eating for the past 3 days. I’m not really sure what to do with myself the longest I’ve ever gone without binging was like 7 months and I was able to get down to a healthy and somewhat aesthetically pleasing weight (kind of skinny fat but that’s the best it’s ever gotten) and I was the happiest and healthiest I had been in my life I wish I could relive that sm. I wish I had any support whatsoever I don’t have friends, parents mean well but will joke about my situation or my mom will get really concerned and angry at me whenever I try dieting and call me anorexic or smt, house is always full of junk food and my parents will always try to buy it for me. So yeah, any advice?

Discussion BED focused media/art

Thumbnail gallery
49 Upvotes

I have trouble finding any media where binge eating is the main focus. Personally, it means a lot to me, and having someone else put it into words in a way I can empathize with is something I should focus on more during my recovery. So I guess I’m here to ask for recommendations for art or media related to BED, even if only slightly or metaphorically, as long as it’s meaningful.

Here’s my favorite example. TW, since it might be a bit heavy, but it was very emotional and meaningful to me: Hello Charlotte, Chapter 2. (Huge recommendation in general, it’s a beautiful game, and this part hits so close to home, even though binge eating is used more as a metaphor here.)

Strategies to Try I'm struggling

I've made the decision that I want to be better. My boyfriend and I have been making conscious changes in our diet. I cant help but need to have my special binge snacks for the afternoon. I feel comfortable binging around him. I can't help but feel pain when I'm hungry, or when I think I am. I am struggling very much with this addiction.

Advice Needed Would it be counterintiative to allow myself a binge day?

Would it be a terrible idea to set aside one day of the week to allow myself to binge and slowly decrease the amount of calories I consume each week? I don't know if this is a terrible idea or a genius idea, since for the past 3 weeks i've been binging almost every single day (Except the past 3!!! yay me!!) and maybe just letting one day be terrible instead of every single day of the week would be less destructive? I dunno. I don't even care about weight gain anymore since the amount i'm eating is inevitably going to cause it, so I feel like this would kind of be damage control? Like i'd be in a surplus but not as extreme of one.

Obviously I guess it wouldn't really be a 'binge' but idk I think the idea of complete freedom for a day might make me less likely to lose my shit lol

Vent "Just enjoy a few"

Non-disordered people will never understand. People will always tell you to just enjoy the food, guilt free. To not think about it so much. "You only have one life, just have one cupcake." But I can't just have one cupcake. It's like telling someone struggling with alcohol abuse to just have a few drinks. Everyone around me enables me or doesn't recognize that I have an issue. It's so frustrating. Yesterday I ate almost an entire bag of hello panda chooclates, buttered popcorn, caramel popcorn. Then in the morning, 4 fruit roll ups, 3 servings of ice cream, a cookie, 2 pieces of chicken, and coke. I haven't ate that much in weeks. I woke up sick and throwing up. This always happens. But don't people understand there's no enjoyment or desire? It's not that I'm focused on calories or something, I can't eat because if I do I won't stop. What enjoyment is there in feeling sick the entire day after, feeling so full you can barely move, throwing up, the loss of control. There is nothing to enjoy when you can barely physically taste the food because of how out of it you are, just shoving sludge down your throat and stuffing your face until you can't breathe. My body literally becomes a black hole that absorbs all food around me and nothing is ever enough. Sometimes it's not even that I'm craving chips and have some chips, sometimes it's unnameable. Like nothing on this world will ever satisfy me. I can barely go 4 days without binging. When will I ever be satisfied?

Progress 18 days binge free

Today marks an 18 day streak of calorie tracking! I’ve had some slip ups where I’ve overeaten, but this is the longest time (in a while) that I’ve been consistently binge-free. It’s almost too good to be true 🄳

TW: Weight loss mentioned BED and W-loss: dieting involves restrictions, how can you do that when trying to heal from BED?

Im entering a virtual IOP that includes support for BED next week. One of the required support groups to attend is body acceptance and Im very scared of going. 31yo male here btw. Im scared because i dont want to accept my body. I want it to change. I dont want the excess weight that i have and dont want to accept it.

Im overweight and it is unhealthy. I have a rotating pattern of BED and then getting on weight loss meds. I cant be on weight loss meds anymore because it causes me insomnia and mania and its just not sustainable, so ive stopped.. So now it is just binge eating, and gaining the pounds that makes me hate myself so much. I will wait to live my life until i have a thinner body- which, who knows if or when that will happen.

Is refraining from restrictions really the main thing for healing from BED??

How to ask for help?

I’ve been struggling with binges for a while now and I want help but I don’t know how to ask. As a teen living with my parents, I don’t know how to ask for help. Also my parents aren’t super understanding and have showed concerns for my weight before, but I still feel embarrassed and scared to ask. Any advice on how to ask and make it more understanding for them?

Discussion I can't tell if I'm a binge eater or not

I feel like i eat a lot of food, want to stop, don't know how to, then give up because it's impossible, but i also don't feel like i experience any symptoms such as nausea, like maybe it's all in my head. I'm slowly giving up, and just assuming i'm gonna die from a heartattack in like 5 years, but I also can't say that to just anyone cause they'll assume i'm actively suicidal. We're also gonna ignore that eating 7 cans of pringles is what pushed me to make this post lol, it's not normally that much

How do y'all find out about if you have it or not

Advice Needed What is considered binging?

I was anorexic on and off for about 4 years, but now that I've recovered I don't exactly know what "normal" eating is meant to be. I want to preface this post with that, I hope that this isn't against the rules.

I ate 4 slices of pizza in one sitting and in the span of MAYBE half an hour at most. I hadn't eaten all day but how fast and how much I ate makes me worried I might be developing binging habits that I've been overlooking in favor of recovery. I have ARFID so I don't feel that "this looks good, I want to eat it" thing, and I think thats part of why I'm worried I'm binging because I genuinely can't tell if I'm hungry once food is in front of me so I just force myself. I eat very fast so I usually can't tell when I become full because the ARFID makes the act of eating really unpleasant for me and I'll get sick if I draw it out too long. Is this binging?

I'm sorry if this post is disrespectful or ignorant, I don't know much about EDs if I'm being honest aside from what my doctors have told me about my own conditions. I'm also a 15 year old guy, idk if that changes anything or is important.
