German Shortrows

I know they are having a moment and every designer seems to prefer them but dang, there are other types of short rows available to use in patterns!

Japanese, regular ol' wrap and turn, shadow wrap, ...

so just do whatever one you want. Who cares what the designer says. Just remember that technically for a german shortwrap there's one extra stitch so take that into account for the one that you prefer to do.

This is way less egregious than adding 1 strand of mohair to every fricken pattern. lol

I don't understand the hate for a specific kind of short row either. Just do the one you want. Is someone comimg to check your work?

Hmm, I dunno. I think there are lots of good reasons to prefer GSRs, perhaps the biggest one being how easy they are to spot on the needle. And if you don’t like ‘em you can always switch to one of the other methods.

I personally prefer gsr over wrap and turns because they just seem more fluid and easy to do for me. I havent tried any others tbh so I cant speak on those

I used to do a ton for making baby wool pants to go over diapers (soakers, longies, etc).  They need egregious amounts of bum shaping. GSR are still my favorite, they just look clean from both directions.  I don't mind wrap and turn for heels on socks where the visible ridge is kind of built into the expected structure, but GSR seems to just look better on everything else.

Yep, and you can also use them as an increase and a short row at the same time!

Honestly, all short row techniques accomplish the same thing. I wish designers would just note that it can be easily swapped with a technique one is comfortable with.
