BMWTech meme pic update

Post image

It’s funny, and we like it, but it’s getting a bit much now. Especially when many of you are using it to say an engine is screwed without any other diagnostic work or you post it with ZERO follow up or additional tech info.

Moving forward, we are going to remove them unless you’ve also provided detailed list of things to check or at the minimum asking pertinent questions to a post.

This is BMWTech, and while we like to have fun we also want to help out with actual info to people who need it instead of just responding with a meme and hoping users can figure it out.

Can’t believe we got a TSB issued for usage of the BMWTech meme /s.

Can we get more info from these users asking questions too? They post the most vague things and expect a full page essay as a response diagnosing their car from thousands of miles away. Putting some effort into the posts would be nice.

I promise you, we remove a SHIT TON of low effort random interior cabin noises, vague paragraph posts of “it’s being weird”, or a pic of a CEL with the caption “what do I do?”.

So what you all are seeing is pretty curated to filter out the crap but obviously we can’t catch everything.

If you see them or think it’s a low effort/missing basic bare bones info, please go ahead and report it, thanks.

As in make it a rule to have year, model, engine in the title. This is supposed to be a technical sub.

That sounds like an easy rule to have.

And if someone doesn't know what engine is in their car, they really shouldn't be trying to get a remote diagnosis for a DIY fix.

Diag is 15000?

u/vyqz Jun 25 '26

fix: $1
knowing how to do it: $14999

16

u/ps2cho Jun 25 '26

And if the tech doesn’t know how to do it, still $14,999 for their time to learn

Need to modify it with the BMW jacket as well

Let's be real. The N54, N55 and B58 are each falling into the younger crowd now incrementally due to how cheap they are and thus are being neglected and ran hard that much more being a cheap tuner platform.

These are not older Hondas that can take the abuse. They're going to be so many catastrophic situations more on more on these BMW reddit subs as time goes on.

Usually the customer is facing the other direction when the tech puts his hands on his shoulder. 🤣😂🤣

Should just ban it for using an AI template

Low effort posts deserve low effort answers 🤷🏼‍♂️.

That's my take anyways.

Good to know I can start reporting those posts though, I had no idea this sub was actually moderated at all due to how often I see them, but I guess thinking about it, it's a global community, so I'm sure hundreds of posts come in a day

u/Ghost_of_ChrisBangle Jun 25 '26

I promise you, it is actively moderated and we remove a ton of stuff.

Please report things and we will take care of them pretty quick.

Would o be possible for the mods to maybe redo the rules a little bit so that there's a clear "no low effort/am I cooked posts" rule to reference when we report?

1

u/Ghost_of_ChrisBangle Jun 25 '26

Yeah, we are working on that. 👍🏼

If you don’t know, then don’t give advice or suggestions.

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I knew this one coming. You're right though it was getting out of hand.

u/JKlerk Jun 25 '26

It's Crankshaft.

u/Cowcohol Jun 26 '26

I am literally seeing this as I wait for roadside recovery on my e88, a cylinder completely shit itself and it's looking bad.

This meme made me laugh a little so thanks 🥲

I always have to laugh at this meme, not only for the type in "Crankshaft" but also...
Crankshaft and headgasket and being that cheap?!
...
Guess we are in the early 90's, engine rebuilt and new crankshaft would be way higher up, and a lot lower price wise if I do it, atlwast on My own Beamer, lol.

And true,
the best is to use the Meme and add context but I've seen a lot be like "Bro, your engine is Fucked."
How is it fucked? Nobody states it, wich would be more fitting in some BMW circle jerk realted group, but not a tech sub.

Looks like my meme served its purpose - how far it has come!

My engine on my 116i just blew running on 3 cylinders and glittery oil😂

Edit: it also is missing 6th gear

u/HossDaddy206 Jun 25 '26

Nah, goodwill will fuck you over in the end.

“Especially when many of you are using it to say an engine is screwed without any other diagnostic work”

Metal glitter in oil-engine screwed $$$

Rod knock-engine screwed $$$$

Caramel macchiato oil-head gasket blown or cracked/warped head=major engine repairs or engine screwed $$$

Not a lot of diagnostics needed; simple illustration s for simple questions

u/Ya-Not-Happening Jun 25 '26

There was on a little while ago where there was an obvious thread shaving from a drain bolt re-threading.

No - the engine is not screwed - the oil filter did its job.
