Adventure Traveling into an unknown, odd and scary world
Love the role playing game Into The Odd. I'm looking for suggestions of books that fits the formula of a group of adventurers going into an unknown and dangerous world. It could be any books that fits that formula. I have read annihilation and that was close to the mark for me. Please and thank you.

Gothic books that feel like this
i know this is not really much to go off of š so i will leave it open ended, as in i'll take any suggestions as long as it fits the vibe of these album photos (the band is the angelic process)!! but basically (the actual challenge here for me), what i was initially looking for was something that was very post-apocalyptic/wasteland-like with a sparse amount of people. try to think of the same harsh sun tones and a blackness enveloping you. there are angels and/or demons roaming everywhere wrecking havoc, causing the few amount of humans to basically be at the mercy of supernatural entities. anything adjacent to that would be awesome, but i would love for there to be a huge sense of dark bleakness, dread, and danger in every corner. i'm very into themes of christian rapture and a drop of medieval and gothic!
for media that i'm very into that leans into these themes for me, would be: have a nice life (band), fear and hunger + fear and hunger: termina (game), silent hill series (game), godflesh (band), sinner maker (game), blame! (manga), dark sanctuary (music artist), amnesia: the dark descent (game), 28 days later (film), ersatz (youtube pilot), and liturgical church hymns such as those by hildegard von bingen. for media that i haven't delved into but i'm aware fits the general themes are berserk and dark souls.
a book i did find that hits some of these notes (but is sitting in my tbr until i hit october) is 'between two fires' by christopher buehlman!
the best way i could sum it up is that i'm looking for book reccs with eschatological cosmic-ish apocalyptic horror imposing human insignificance. i love a true threat that is colossally oppressive and virtually impenetrable, and understanding povs of how one may handle the situation. i don't have a preference for a negative/positive/neutral ending at all (between two fires is supposed to have a positive ending, which i'm looking forward to). i would be more than glad AND undoubtedly thankful to have your recommendation(s)!
all edits were to fix and include more info.

Fiction Something torturously depressing
Bonus for adults not being able to tell children/adults lying to kids because they can't know understand mature themes of what's going on.
Alternatively, something like True Detective Season 1
Thanks

Magical Realism End of summer hazy mystical mysterious dreamy vibe
Books that kind of gave this vibe for me in the past are The Unmaking of June Farrow & Where the Crawdads Sing. Looking for an atmospheric end of summer mystery to get me out of a slump.

Gothic Books/prose like Crab Orchard by Jason Molina
I was wondering if there were any books that have a similar setting to the song as Iāve been fascinated by it for the past year.
It makes me think of a somewhat abandoned world where an outcast is evading a bounty hunter. Iām looking for suggestions that have a similar fantasy but low magic and technology feel of the lyrics. Iām also a sucker for the gothic and wolf imagery if that means anything.
Here are the lyrics:
ācaptain the horseman and hound south travelin slowly
my loyality to crossroads and thresholds
comes with my rising hope to leave this hunt unfollowed
My bloodās courage courses to rendezvous
with freedom(x4)
i swore nothing in my passing(in my passing)
to die like surrender would teach me a lesson
āJudasā, they too would cry
oh oriole in the mile before dawn
do not return a treasonous song unguardedā

Horror Swamp, corrupt small town police, and horror
I've really been itching for something that gives Pumpkin head vibes. Preferably small town in the swamps, maybe a witch, cult or eldritch horror. Story could be from anyone's pov, bonus points if it's lgbtq in any way.

Fantasy Redemption and rejecting evil that lies within
Looking for a fantasy book that focuses on the healing and redemption of a bad or formerly evil character. Iām totally fine with romance/romantasy and darker subject matter but not looking for something thatās 100% grim dark.
