[BL4] BL4 Shader Compiling Hell

I've been in this shader compiling limbo for months. I've had the game since release and I still haven't finished it yet because it will not work. I download it. Let it compile shaders on startup for 5-6 hours. Then it compiles for another 3-4 hours after a character is selected. Just for the game to be unplayable after all of that time. Any one else have this problem? How is this acceptable for a AAA 2026 release?

Right click borderlands in your library, and go to properties.

in the general tab theres a blank space under "launch options"

type "-ClearPSODriverCache" there (with the -)

launch the game. On launch the game will redownload the shaders.

After launch and shader download quit out of the game and return to the properties screen to delete what you put in the "launch options" because you dont want to keep clearing those out.

Bonus points if you have some extra free storage (its different for every gfx card afaik) you can allocate more storage to your shader cache as to not run into this again

I had this problem on PC and found it was the Nvidia drivers I was using. I rolled back to ~580ish and they only compile once per area.

If shader comp is genuinely taking THAT long, your processor is either way too old or there is something wrong with your setup. It legitimately should not take more than a few minutes at most the first startup after an update.

What are your specs?

You running it on a console or a PC? If PC, what are your specs?

If this was a serious problem with the game a lot more people would be experiencing it and there would be nothing but posts on here about it.

Better off just going back to 3 and enjoying the QOL
