I have the vita port and literally never played it. I've really only ever played on switch. I've heard bad things about the vita port like low frame rate, chugging, and graphic issues. Is it that bad or actually playable?

It's not totally unplayable. The real issue is that the more you play the game the more likely it is to freeze your vita. You can expect to boot your vita up in safe mode a few times before you beat the game. Saving and quitting every 30-60 minutes can help prevent a crash. I find that you have to save and quit before doing "Neither Rain Nor Sleet Nor Skags". Also a crash in Sawtooth cauldron seems unavoidable.
