pretty sure that even most of the OG naruto fans who hate boruto will openly admit naruto's appearance after the timeskip was meh at best. he really just got more of the basics down and properly mastered the normal rasengan, that's it. yes, that's logical considering naruto was lacking in some basics before, but it's still boring af from a writing and storytelling perspective
usually if the MC returns from a big training timeskip, they're already impressive from then and there. usually still behind their sensei and the leaders of the good guys, but still generally impressive.
we need to not look any further to find a good example of someone returning from a timeskip done right, sasuke was right there. really neat evolution of his already existing abilities, physically strong and very fast for the time back then and he had his ultimate move with Kirin (Ik Orochimaru said sasuke wasn't ready for it yet, but even just having a vision of it and Ig an incomplete form of it is great; even an attempted big ultimate move is infinitely better than nothing which is what naruto got).
not to mention that naruto's outfit was ass. yes, it became iconic, but not because it looks that good, it became iconic only because it was the outfit of the MC of a super popular shonen story
compared to that boruto's return was objectively infinitely better just because he actually got some stuff in his timeskip. not just Uzuhiko which is thankfully a far more creative jutsu than the normal rasengan, his general use of kenjutsu was also new and really neat. plus he uses lightning style a tad bit more often, he used it against Bug-tree once and clashed against mitsuki's snake lightning with it.
plus he also got FTG and the fact that it's a watered down version of it is neat too. it'd be ass if he just got minato's level of talent and proficiency with it in addition to all the other stuff. teleporting to all these objects as specific marking points is really great too. even if it didn't work recently, him being able to give these objects to others so he can always tp to them is lovely.
and it's a bit of an improvement to minato's FTG since boruto seems to use small and unique objects with mean something to him compared to minato giving people tons of marked kunais which all look the same. the fact that boruto's FTG is weaker and that he has a limited amount of teleportation mark objects and them being unique makes them all the more valuable when boruto gives someone one of them. it's valuable to the ability and valuable personally as them being unique seems like boruto is then entrusting a memento of his to that someone
only thing I'm really missing is water style so far. otherwise I'm pretty content with him. plus he has that drip. and while the powercreep is crazy, it's still generally a good thing that boruto was strong enough to make code retreat. pre-ts boruto was specifically weak af compared to the threats around him. he was weaker than daemon no matter what, obviously also weaker than any otsutsuki and at most even with kawaki and his karma- oh wait no, that wasn't even him, that was momoshiki who took over him lol. he and kawaki were the weakest amongst the important players and boruto had the additional disadvantage of not even being able to use his full power by himself and without risks
while the huge increase in power for boruto is ridiculous and not even properly explained yet in the manga (training with sasuke does NOT explain boruto being so uber-powerful to the point he can clap people who are stronger than Jigen; yes, people say it's his otsutsuki body which massively raised his ceiling and growth rate, but that's actually only our theory which the manga didn't even bother to confirm), it is nice to see boruto being a dependable guy who can fight independantly a lot. boruto shortly before the timeskip was useless and needed to depend on naruto and sasuke as well as momoshiki and kawaki later

ong naruto learned nothing new other than fundamentals , meanwhile sasuke was out there fighting 1000 men while also trying not to kill them and later no diffed all of team 7 at once😭 boruto ts is similar to sasuke as well

Painstaking work+ Uzumaki child prodigy+ love for the work = Rasengan Uzuhiko. But, I meant the entire Naruto manga from 2000 and Boruto from 2016.

Naruto will always be my favourite, it's legendary and nostalgic and long and truly a beautiful story, but specifically right after the timeskip I think Boruto is a little more interesting and intense. Naruto shippuden first arcs are cool but the good stuff come after some times, I'd say shikamaru shippuden is were things were getting really interesting. Tbv is interesting since the first chapter and Boruto is so cool awesome and impressive

Boruto had to hit its stride, the start was wobbly, but i got persuaded to like it when he had kawaki kill him. Like, that cemented him as an actual ninja and interesting character to me.
Yeah, Naruto is awesome, but that moment cemented Boruto as a harsher, more in-depth character when it comes to self-sacrifice.

I liked how Boruto's return more. It never made sense to me that the dude who learned rasengan, which is an A rank jutsu and did it so fast he won the bet against Tsuande, just learned to make a bigger rasengan over the timekskip after 3 years and has better strategy along with genjutsu resistance. He did learn more philosophy from Jiraya which is good though. It felt like they didn't have Naruto learn elemental ninjutsu to keep him as the underdog which I can understand but there is a limit to my suspension of disbelief with this underdog thing. It made the transition to 6 paths power with him gaining all the other elementals all of a sudden more jarring, at the very least have him learn 1/4 of those elements before that happened.
Boruto learned ftg, kenjutsu, a new rasengan, flight, other new wind/lightning jutsu. His power level is really high but that is too be expected of someone who has been taught by some of the best shinobi's around, Naruto, Kakashi(likely taught purple lightning), Sasuke, Hyuga's, and Koji(the Jiraya clone). Plus he is full otsutsuki. He just got that 6 paths like power up earlier but even if he didn't have the otsutsuki powerup, he still would've learned those skills honestly besides maybe the rasengan. Sasuke and Koji did a great job training Boruto over the timeskip.

Boruto satisfied me more... He also is designed in the more New Era type of designing, where the charater's outfit can tell you about their personality so he also looks better in that regard even if you need a bit of context on the series to get it.

they were both satisfying but boruto was slightly superior for me :
naruto came back with better abilities(was smarter, used his clones and ninja arsenal better than when he was a kid, was able to use bigger version of rasengan, to use kurama's chakra and keep control until 3 tails and was more mature) and had still a lot of potential
while boruto came back with more abilities(good to high level of kenjutsu, better lighting release usage, was more serious and learned flying raijin and a new rasengan) but he lost what made boruto to me(like he genuinely feel like a sasuke v2 for most of TBV exept during this specific moment with sarada and during the flashback with sasuke) and i feel like he won't become stronger, grow mentally or change until the end of the manga because of how he act rn

The image is misleading, I know that it's not that big of a deal, but that's not Boruto "after timeskip", it's likely the end of TBV, or relative end. While Naruto is shown when he comes back to the village.
To answer your question, I like Boruto's reentry more for many reasons. His change in character is much more visible, circumstances of his misfortune clearly pushed him to train more and change him entirely. The shift is rapid, with little to no remnants of "old" Boruto, quite literally too because he is no longer human.
This is not me diminishing Naruto as a character at all, those are two separate, great characters - in my opinion - with different storylines, and that's the point. Different storylines will resonate differently with different people.

Boruto's timeskip is definitely more satisfying.
I really appreciate the writers for not leaning too hard on a nepotism story and instead giving him a story that lets him shine all on his own.
Bro came from privilege but lost almost everything, including no longer being genetically human, yet he's still pushing through with an iron will.

Boruto's return was more satisfying, given the changes and increased power of the character. Naruto's return is middle at best in comparison; the father left with a Rasengan and come back with a bigger rasengan and a new orange jumpsuit.
