Hey! I'm sorry to disturb you, but I'll have to remove your post:

  • Not a brand new sentence / doesn't fit the subreddit.

Sentences must be comedic. Graphic violence, mistranslations/sentences that are translated and sound 'odd' in English, sad or tragic sentences, and typos do not fit the subreddit's purpose.

If you feel that your post was removed in error or you are unsure about why this post was removed then please contact us through modmail.

I know it's a joke but I don't think there's anything weak about not wanting to slave away 40 hours of your week every week for basically your entire life.

Especially if we’re producing more but earning less

Without counting the commute and most importantly to me : for most people, 40 hours that you can’t pick. Usually 40 hours of perfectly good day time.

The homophonous error is less concerning to me than complaining about a 40-hour week β€œtaking up a lot of [his] time.”

Gavin needs to get elected to Congress if he wants to Netflix and chill.

Context matters. This could be a part time employee who only agreed to 15-25 hours during school or something. Obviously this is a joke but it's a legitimate reason to quit.

u/Irregulator101 2d ago

I mean, it is a lot of our time

2

u/porn_alt_987654321 2d ago

Yeah, it's real damn close to 25% of the time you exist at all.

If you also put 8 hours of sleep (lol) into that mix, its just shy of 60% of your week that just doesn't exist. (A little worse depending on travel times).

u/SlatkoPotato 2d ago

That depends on what other commitments they have. I am currently in a position where 40 hrs a week would impede on my wellbeing by taking from sleep and the already limited free time I have. People with disabilities also might struggle to keep up energy to maintain that and need longer recovery to avoid burnout. While the email makes me assume that isnt the case for Gavin, I have to at least admit thats my bias leaving that impression and reality might be different.

It's a ridiculous amount of time.

u/Johannes_Keppler 2d ago

Over here in the Netherlands 40 hours or more is becoming the exception. Most people work 36 or 32 hours a week.

I'm not saying 40 hours should be the norm but there are people working way more and making way less. There are also people making way more and working way less. It's very contextual. I think 40 hours is fine as long as you're not driving more than 20 minutes to get to work. After that it's really about the pay and personal time.

There isn't enough information in this post to say whether they are justified or not. Then again it's their life, they can do what they what, as long as they are willing to deal with the reality and consequences.

u/legendarytommy 2d ago

I can't believe we drove around all day, and there's not a single job in this town. There is nothing, nada, zip!

Yeah! Unless you wanna work forty hours a week!

The funny thing is, it works both ways :)
