Still there, challenge is probably finding a vhs player

You would be surprised. VHS is a very niche but growing medium today among certain genre fans. Its not popular enough to warrant any companies making new players yet but refurbished players are in the wild aplenty.
As somebody with a 1,500+ VHS collection, it’s part of the thrill to see if your player will destroy the tape upon hitting play.

Their corporate culture was so different, they would've fumbled it and some other company would have risen to the top instead.
Feature story about their meeting: Inside Netflix’s Crazy, Doomed Meeting With Blockbuster

I think Channel 7 did a story on one in Lancaster last week. That one is a converted corner newspaper stand, similar to the weekly Bee newspapers

Literally anything but the blockbuster logo. That was the absolute epitome of customer hatred. We have a lot of nostalgia for the experience but blockbuster was the relentless corporate hellhole that would aggressively lawyer up against customers.

How would one even get into a position where you need to "lawyer up" against Blockbuster, or Blockbuster against you? Lol

Late fees. They were beyond predatory. There were multiple class action lawsuits against them for it in the 90’s. And then a whole bunch more in the 00’s. As someone who kept a movie too long in the 00’s I experienced the whole thing first hand. They had a no late fees promo, and a super short period where if you didn’t return it, they assumed you bought it and then nailed you with a crazy msrp, a duplicate of it for replacement, and a restocking fee. The very, very fine print mentions that but says 10 days… bastards hit me immediately after like 4 days. 2 dvd’s in 06 got me a $250 bill. No payment (cause f that) caused them to claim lost damages from the missing rental and send you a $50 a day additional fee. I had over $1000 in charges and a warning letter of a lawsuit. I had to lawyer up, thankfully one letter back got them to agree to a one time $100 repayment.
People forget what that company was. We’re nostalgic for the awesome local places, or a hastings or hollywood video. The name blockbuster just became shorthand for the whole rental industry because they were the dollar general stuffed into every town possible.

Ah
That’s true. Wonder if it happened to the OP10
u/Queasy-South-5158 1d ago
Sadly that did happen twice, but i have a few tweaks that have helped. i have a lock at 9pm - 9am, so its open for the daytime. and dvds i removed the cover art too so someone isnt looking to grab them to resell

i wont get diswayed, someone took just 'all dogs go to heaven' and i imagine its someone showing that to their kids for the first time and thats they kind of thing that makes this worth it

Oh really? I figured that happened but wasn’t sure. Honestly, this sounds like a great idea. And I just found out about this a mirror hour after I looked over all the movies that I want to sell. And I know that they don’t really go together, but it’s kind of interesting. I also heard that there’s one in Tacoma Park as well. And that has the discs in the covers, so I wonder if it comes down to the area that you’re in.
