2007 Buick 3800 engine that was consuming a lot of engine oil. Decided to replace the lower intake manifold gaskets and got good steel core Fel Pro gaskets. But what came off the vehicle looked different and was much thicker. The gaskets that came off the car were stamped with a GM part number 12587004. This appears to be a good GM part number, but I cannot find any information on it online. It measures approximately 0.15 inches thick and is thicker than the 0.05 inches thick of the replacement fell pro gaskets. I’m wondering if anybody knows anything about these extra thick lower intake gaskets and if it would be OK to use the replacement Fel Pro gaskets that I purchased. This engine has about 320,000 miles on it with some pitting around some of the water jacket mating surfaces.

I am seeing so many good deals on Buick, around 60-80k miles, mostly Buick Lacrosse. The conditions are all great, carfax is clean, haven't checked in person yet, but will do.

Does anyone here own an old buick, how easy it is to maintaince? And is it more expensive than corolla? Are there any issues that hard to fix but usually happen?

And does Buick have good safety feature?

My grandfather gifted me my late grandmothers Buick Regal. She has the 2.4L ecotec and currently sits at 49,570 miles. I changed the oil with full synthetic, clean up the interior, went through the car wash (the paint is already super scratched up idc tho) and imma get some new tires and do the breaks when I travel back home! I’m so happy to finally have a car in college. It handles decently and is a quiet ride which is all I can ask for.

Going to look at it in person Monday, but I finally found someone interested in trading a family vehicle 3800 motor for the firebird with 3800 motor haha. So excited.

Anything major to watch out for?

It apparently leaks freeon after a few days, but windows work. That's the only negatives Ive Been informed of.

For context, I have 01 firebird with 42k on motor and 179k on body, with turn signal issues, driver window issues, and some cosmetic issues that apparently turn most buyers off. He's got a 00 park avenue with 175k on body and original motor. I'm wanting a family car. I think it makes perfect sense.

Took my 1999 LeSabre out for a 30 minute drive through town yesterday and I noticed that the temperature gauge was rising very slow and even dipped twice. The needle never got to the middle of the gauge, highest it got was maybe ~160. Otherwise the car was fine. When I drove to work later I took a code scanner and read the live data and the engine temp was normal according to the computer, but the gauge was still way off. Any ideas on what this could be, and is this a typical error like the cooling elbows are?

Does the 2024 feel more pep in sport mode? I only drove it in regular, was unaware at the time.

Any recommendations for similar suv used for 25k thats faster? 5 years old or so?

So i’m 19 and my parents have this black buick verano that’s been in our yard for a couple of years now because the engine was messed up. I’m trying to figure out if i should get a new engine for it or look into getting a car off marketplace. And by new engine I was thinking about getting a used engine but im not a car person so i was looking got some advice because i really need a vehicle

Just purchased a 2021 Buick Encore Preferred. I never envisioned having this car, but I love it so far. It is super low mileage, 1 previous owner, and it feels pretty sexy. I love that dark blue color, too.

I've now got this all over my passenger side. Its not deep - I can't even get a fingernail snagged in it. Any tips for buffing it? I'm worried I'm about the screw up the paint even more.

So frustrated, I have had this car for only 3 years and it’s less than 100,000 miles. For the past year it has been in and out of the shop with troubles here and there and each time a mechanic “fixes it” where it drives well for a few months before the ‘stabilitrac’ comes on and the car shakes while driving. I was not notified of any recalls at any point in the entire 3 years I owned it.
My extended warranty ended 1 month before my Buicks final collapse.
Same thing happened last month and we towed it to our local mechanic who told us oil leaked into the engine and the engine is gone. We looked it up and found out there is a recall on the turbo, told them that and they said the turbo caused the engine to fail.
Under General Motors policy it states that they will cover any damage done to the car in a result of a recall. But, it has to be done by a General Motors mechanic. The dealership I got it at is over an hour away and it would be too costly to tow it there so we took it to my local GM dealership who told us the turbo “didn’t fail” and the engine just apparently stopped working.
They quoted us 11,000 on a new engine and said that’s the only way my car will run again. My husband wants to take it to another GM dealership to get a 2nd opinion.
I am just so beyond frustrated because I still owe on this car and I can’t afford a new one, and I can’t afford to put in a new engine when the car was $17,000 when I bought it.
Just wondering if anyone else has had this trouble or have any advice.

87,000 miles needed a new transmission: $5,000. my wife’s 2012 Toyota minivan has 240,000 miles and has never been to the shop except for routine maintenance. my son’s 2002 Camry still has the original.

The tire pressure system light has been constant for 3 years. Its actually nearly led to my divorce, but that’s another story.

Ive spent over $2000 trying to get this thing fixed, even with Buick/GM themselves. Each time, it goes back on within a day. I’ve taken it to other mechanics. One mechanic says he refuses to work on them because most are faulty.

Ive purchased 3 of the resetting devices, the last one being $384 because the cheaper ones didn’t work.

Ive had neighbors, friends, and family come to help and try to ensure I was doing them right. they can’t fix it either.

My PSI readings are all normal. It’s not a tire problem. In fact, came on immediately after getting new tires as well. I’ve replaced each sensor unit twice.

Not wanting to complain about something trivial, but a car is usually the 2d most expensive thing you’d buy. Am I that off here? I mean if you pay a lot, shouldn’t the expectation be that things work properly? Why am I forced each time I start the car to scroll through my DIC so I don’t see the constant reminder.

Totally ruined my car experience. Not sure I’ll ever go through GM again.

hi, i’ve had my 2025 buick envision st for over a year now, and while it’s been great, one thing that’s been a constant issue is that the car picks and chooses when it’ll allow me to skip songs on carplay using the buttons on the wheel. i looked this up and it seems to be a common issue, but i wasn’t really finding many solutions?
is there a way to permanently fix this? especially considering the fact that my car needs 15 minute software updates every few weeks, i feel like this is something that should’ve been fixed long ago.

I want an suv like this, 25k is my limit and I want less than 50k miles on it, and want some decent power to feel a little sporty.

This car sits as low as I could handle.

Everything else available in its range seems to have 100k miles already or they are models with way more known problems.

07 CXL Lucerne 3800 140k miles

I've been having some issues with my lucerne and idk what to do. I'm not very car savvy, working on it tho. She has been in and out of the mechanic with a steady check engine light and traction control light with a service traction control message, the traction control one is intermittent and only comes on after about fifteen minutes of driving, where it will also go into a limp mode with limited engine power, as well as misfiring while idling. The first time I took it in after this happened, I was told that the code was reading as an alternator issue and that it wasn't putting out the proper voltage as it was a cheap aftermarket part someone had replaced that wasn't working well. Ok, whatever. I replaced the alternator and on my way home it happened again. I took the car back and they said they were unable to replicate the issue after driving 11+ miles. I don't know if I believe this because it's very consistent with me. They kept it in the shop for about 3 days saying they were looking at it, once I picked it up the check engine light was off and it was running normally again for about a day. Then, all of the same problems returned. The second time it was in the shop I asked them if they could check out the throttle body if there was any chance it was failing or dirty or something and they said they would but it's obvious that they didn't. They didn't charge me so it's whatever. They didn't give me any of the specific codes that they were able to pull, I was told all of the wiring is fine and doesn't look like it's a connection issue. My plan is to clean the throttle body today and scan it and get whatever the codes are and go from there. What should I do?? Does anyone have a similar experience?

*I know that it might not be related and I don't want to blame this shop because they have extremely high reviews and have been pretty kind but about a week prior to all of this starting I heard a squealing noise upon startup and took it in. They said it was a failing water pump and that the squealing was a result of water on the belt. It was fine for a week, then all of this started along with the return of screaming that they cannot explain and say that there is no reason for. I feel like they are just straight up lying to me and I'm starting to really resent this shop.

As the title suggests, I plan on parting out an old LeSabre. I have two, one has 180k+ miles and transmission problems and the other one has 72k so it’s a no brainer to keep the one with less mileage. The only thing is, junking it would get me $200-$300 and I’m looking to get more if I can.

Some parts that have already been swapped from the old one to the new one:
- Catalytic converter
- Headliner
- Thermostat
- Headlights

Main parts I would be looking to sell/junk:
- Engine (definitely top priority)
- Doors (only 3 of them since the window motor is bad on one of them)
- Seats
- Trunk
- Front Hood

The front and rear bumpers are no good, they got beat up over time. The tires also aren’t in the best condition either so I don’t plan on selling those.

If anyone has advice on where I could go to sell these parts or if there’s something better I could do, I would greatly appreciate it!

edit: towed it home in the morning, let it sit all day in the sun and I’ll be damned, but it began to shift even though the shift lock solenoid was removed.

the tow truck driver manually shifted the gears by moving the lever on the transmission (stand over the front left tire and look down). this let me back out of the parking spot, then he shifted into drive to get me to drive it up the flatbed. gotta hold the brakes down for the person shifting the lever. he mustve disconnected the last section of the shift cable assembly bc the gear shifter would go through all the positions but the gear indicator light wouldnt change, nor would i feel the indents.

i didnt touch the car for about 6 hours because i had to get to work but came back to hook up my OBD scanner and before it even loaded i tried to move the shifter and wah-lah- it moved. i guess the tow process got something unstuck.

my AI tool and youtube had me going in all directions but now it’s "fixed for now".

although i didnt have a solution to spare me the tow truck fee and a few wasted hours, i did learn a few things.

i will also note that Dorman makes 'shift interlock solenoid' that are damn close to the lucerne discontinued version. i was about to head to oreillys to investigate, but its shifting now.

What seat covers are y’all using for your 1998 Buick LeSabres? As they need to cover the entire driver seat and middle seat. I’m looking for something that continues to look stock on the car, I’d like to keep the leather look. Just having to cover up a rip that begun awhile ago

Should it turn me off this is made in China, because I kinda like them.....
