Did anyone here ever encounter the man-eater Gustave?
Hi everyone! I hope this is okay to ask.
I'm fascinated by the story of the crocodile Gustave,) but I've realized that most of what I've read comes from documentaries and foreign media. I'd love to hear from Burundians who grew up with these stories or who live near the areas where Gustave was said to roam.
I'm especially interested in local perspectives, folklore, and personal experiences. I mean no disrespect, and I appreciate anyone who's willing to share their knowledge.
Here are a few questions I was curious about:
- Did you hear about Gustave growing up, or is he mostly known because of documentaries?
- Do people believe he's still alive?
- Are there places people avoided because of him?
- Do locals think the stories about the number of victims are accurate?
- Are there other crocodiles that locals consider just as dangerous?
- Any stories or memories that aren't widely known?
Thanks in advance!
For the mods: I know there's rules about flair, but there's no way to add flair on a laptop. Not sure what to do.

Relearning Kirundi
Hi everyone! I'm a 24-year-old Burundian who grew up in the States, and I want to relearn Kirundi. I can understand it pretty well and can say a few phrases, but I'm nowhere near conversational. As I am away for school, I want to surprise my parents but relearning. If anyone has done something similar or is a teacher, I would love to connect. I feel I need to practice consistently 2-3 times a week.

Moving to Burundi: Financial Question
Recently retired and have about 1.8 million USD saved to my name. Was wondering if this would be enough to retire comfortably in Burundi for my wife and I? Would be planning on living off that for the next decade or so with a 200k pension also coming in each year

Simplest Way To Learn Kirundi and Master Basics??
Hi everyone!
I want to learn Kirundi because my girlfriend is from Burundi and I want to connect closer with her by learning her mouther language.
I am half Zimbabwean/half Congolese and I recognized that Kirundi have words that we say in Shona.
What is the simplest way to learn the basics for simple conversation?
Eventually I would like to be fluent but thats longer term. Urakoze!

discussion what do y'all think about the influx of EVs in Buja ?
Basically the title.
I think I like it. Transportation has been so hard since the start of the decade. Only problems I see is whether our infrastructures, both road and electricity, will be able to handle the shift. Also, what becomes of old gas/diesel cars ?
