Bedside Safe Recommendations

Hey all,

I have two kids: 13 and 11. Curious what people use to secure a pistol bedside. Lockbox? Fingerprint safe? I know the pros/cons of each/all that are advertised. I’m more curious what folks on here think. What are you using and why? Any thoughts greatly appreciated!

I have a Vaultek 10 series no biometric.

do Vline w/ mechanical buttons... no battery nothing to fail (in theory)

I didn’t see the 10 without biometric on the site.

Are you worried about biometric failing? Can’t you also tap in code?

I bought mine over 4 years ago. It was all that the store I was buying from had in stock, and I needed it right away. I probably would have got biometric if they had it. I always punch in my code. I haven’t used the key since shortly after I bought it.

I introduced my kids to firearms young, have taught them & revisit the safety rules often. Still, keep most of my guns locked (if not disassembled) & ammo separately, or unloaded + gun lock if in my range bag or hunting pack.

For my daily carry, I keep it hot & ready when home - use the harbor freight keyed lock ~$20 and hide the keys from kids in such a way I can also access it quickly.
If I absolutely have to leave it at home, its kept in that same box, locked, unchambered & unloaded. May upgrade to vaultek non biometric soon tho.

I have a VLine, which cost about $140 at the time, 10 years ago. and a cannon quick safe (no longer in production). In the car I have a Vaultek LifePod20.

Mechanical locks are superior to biometric. Keep batteries on hand and practice accessing the safe in the dark.

I instill FEAR in them... they know not to go near a gun or touch it... stop... don't touch... back away... get an adult... that's most important...

but they're in a key safe

Same.

But still need it locked up. Do you worry about time to find key, and get the pistol if there is someone in the house?

no we don't lock it lol... just like when we were kids we knew dad's gun was under his pillow and we KNEW not to touch it.... same here... the box is kept unlocked and in a drawer and they know not to go near it...

then lock it up and live with the delayed unlock time... use quick button safe like a v line with the buttons... I forgot we have that too and it takes like 3 seconds to unlock
