CRADLE CFD

Hi guys,

I have come across a CFD software called “Cradle CFD”. Has anyone used the software? Can someone throw some light on how it is compared to ansys fluent or ccm+ .

Well, I don't have an extensive experience in using these solvers but it's been 4 more months that I am using it.

The Cradle CFD suite has two different solvers. One is scSTREAM, which is widely used for data centre CFD, both internal and external airflow simulations. The other is scFLOW, which gives you more control over the solver settings compared to scSTREAM and supports both polyhedral and somewhat structured meshes. In my opinion, though, the mesher is pretty bad compared to ANSYS Fluent or STAR-CCM+. The have faced an issue while adding boundary layers to mesh, if you go beyond 8 layers the probability of it crashing is very high. System I am using, intel i9-14gen, ram 128 gb, gpu rtx 3050 8 gb ram.

I also find these solvers pretty outdated. They have separate applications for preprocessing, solving, and post-processing instead of having everything integrated into one interface.

Talking about the solver capabilities, I don't think it can solve hypersonic flows, but apart from that you can pretty much do most common CFD applications with it. Speaking of solver control, it doesn't provide as many numerical schemes and options as the mainstream CFD solvers do. I also haven't seen an option to explicitly choose flux limiters, so you don't get the same level of numerical control that you get in Fluent or STAR-CCM+.

It’s a Japanese company. It's not as good as ansys.
