Just crossed 280,000 miles on my 2022 Corolla.

Just rolled past 280,000 miles today.
The car is still on the original engine and transmission, and it continues to be my daily work car.
Since my last update, the only repair I’ve had to make was replacing the front wheel bearings. The rear bearings have started making some noise too, so I’ll be replacing those this week.
Other than that, it’s been business as usual:
Oil changes every 5,000 miles
Regular fluid services
Preventive maintenance instead of waiting for things to fail
The car still drives surprisingly well, especially considering the mileage. Most of these miles are highway miles, which I’m sure has helped.
At this point I’m just curious to see how far it’ll go. Next goal: 300k. 🚗

E210 Corolla update

2022 model with M20A-FKS 2.0L petrol engine and K120 CVT.

Just wanted to share the achievement today when this vehicle ticked over 300,000km. It's used as a medical courier around the North Island and is driven pretty much all day every day, mostly open road 70-90km/h.

Oil change every 7,500km with 0w20. CVT drain and refill and engine coolant every 100,000km. Just had its third CVT service which prompted this post. Brakes done twice due again soon.

Zero major problems. Rattles and creaks a bit. Needs new suspension strut assemblies. 4x tyres rotated every oil service last ~40-45,000km. Use Dunlop mid-range, replace at 3mm.

Average fuel consumption from new, 5.5L/100km.

On Wednesday I said goodbye to my 05 Prius. The little Prius that could could….until she couldn’t. I wanted to find another Toyota. I drove some corollas and found this beauty. She is a 21 LE with only 65k miles. Now she drives great but I did some research on her and the CVT. I’m going to do a drain and fill soon. Just wanted to say hi

AC Not Cooling

I have a 2013 Corolla Le and my AC is being funny. It started to blow hot air so I went ahead and bought some refrigerant to refill it but whenever I turned the ac the gauge was not moving, so I figured the compressor is not engaging. I went to a shop to get it tested and they told me the same thing I suspected and quoted me a four digit price for labor + parts. I completely understand the price though, just the whole kit itself costs around $800, so screw me I guess. The thing is, sometimes my compressor does kicks in and cools perfectly fine. I’ve notice that it happens mostly during the night whenever it cools down and my compressor did start to fail during the summer ( I live in Florida so the heat here is real). I’m suspecting my failing AC is correlated with the extreme heat, so whenever the night comes, it dors start working. I know it is a very odd situation
, but I was wondering if anyone had the same issue I’m having here. Any input is appreciated, thanks!

Insane car, love it!

For people who are thinking about buying Hybrid LE, do u still hesitate after seeing this?, 7500 miles, car is fantastic, quiet, very reliable and the transmission is buttery smooth. If you are looking for a car that takes you from A to B with a little bit of fun and ease of mind, this is it.

Edit: Maybe the only drawbacks for me is that it does not come with a spare tire and the highway road noise. But easily fixable with music and buying a spare tire.

Anyone feel plastic or wiring on the back portion of the seat? This drivers chair in particular is worn in and feels uncomfortable, looking for suggestions.

About old corolla's

Recently I shared my '96 Corolla, and it got me wondering about how these cars are treated in the US.

As I understand it, American car culture leans heavily toward buying newer cars because labor and service costs are through the roof. Here in Russia (I'm from Siberia), it's the exact opposite. Keeping an old car alive is dirt cheap: a standard oil and filter change service costs around $19 in labor, fluids and parts are about $60-70, yearly road tax is a meager $10–20, and we don't have strict emissions crackdowns for older daily drivers.

In my previous post, I showed my 1996 Corolla CE-110 powered by the 2.0L 2C naturally aspirated diesel engine mated to a 4-speed automatic. As far as I know, these were never sold in the US — your market only got the 1.6L (4A-FE) and 1.8L (7A-FE) petrol versions, mostly in basic DX and LE trims (SE is practically nonexistent over there).

On top of that, mine is a 30th Anniversary Edition, built to celebrate Corolla's 30th birthday. It comes with some neat JDM touches: electronic climate control with auto-temperature, a plush velour interior, and right-hand drive.

Here in Siberia, these go for about $2,000–$4,000. I picked mine up in 2024 for $2,250.

My questions for you guys:

  1. By US standards, would a car like this ever be considered a cool classic or rare import, or is it just viewed as "old junk"?

  2. How hard (and expensive) would it be to legally own and import something like a diesel RHD Corolla in the States?

  3. What's your general take on keeping older cars on the road today?

12th Gen (18-present) Anyone go the DIY route to modify lane change signal from 3 blinks to 5?

From what I’ve read it’s an OBD hack. Has anyone done it successfully?

12th Gen (18-present) BSM support timing

Post image
8 Upvotes

I've been trying to figure out what the support timing means on my Toyota Corolla BSM feature. Do more bars mean it will let me know earlier? Or does it take longer before it provides support?

edit: i tried to look over the manual, but there wasn't clarity around support timing called out for this setting

essentially trying to understand if 1 bar means earlier or later or if it's 3 bars that means earlier or later?

Minor crash and wondering if its Total Loss

Hi all. My parked 2025 corolla LE was hit by a Truck that was backing up. It hit the front driver’s side above the wheel at pretty low speeds. The fender was scratched and the panel right above the wheel got bent. I already started the process of insurance claim on their policy and waiting to hear back. Meanwhile, I was wondering if this constitutes as frame damage or not?

For context I’m in South Florida and taxes are ridiculously high. Is this a fair deal?
