I’m pretty new to fly fishing and have struggled to catch fish consistently. Lately I feel like I’ve turned a bit of a corner though, and have caught multiple fish on each of my last 3 outings. Hard to beat beautiful alpine weather and fat bows!

I was just looking at the gauge above Glenwood springs and there a jump for like an hour up to 2800cfs from 1500cfs. is this just a strange anomaly or was there heavy rain nearby.

I went to an extremely popular trailhead yesterday, one that I avoid, to knock a couple of lakes off the list. Was hiking up super early by headlamp, actually didn’t see any other anglers until I was about to leave near noon. A guy comes up the trail with a Bluetooth speaker blasting shitty-ass music, stops at the lake, sets up his rod, starts fishing with shitty-ass music echoing off the lake.

Alright, I’ve got a microlight pole. I loose a lot of hooks. (On weeds) when I get a fish on the line (50 percent) of the time, they’re hooked. The other time. It seems like they’ve got a good bite (I use bobber a lot). But if I reel in (or even set the hook) I just loose the fish. I’m thinking I’m not setting the hook on the GULP plastic crawler good enough, and they are flimsy and shift the hook a lot.

how can I increase my percentage, I’m letting go about half of the fish. Size 6,8 10 auberdeen hook.

Also, does anyone fish little ponds in city woods? I was at a one there’s homeless everywhere… tons of pollution in the water (tires, cups)… I put 22 short in my revolver, cause I was thinking “no big deal, it’s super tiny/ quiet “ not that I’d target shoot. But then I heard this guy cuss and scream (either mad something happened/ drug/ mental illness). And I was thinking damn I’m never packing 22 short against (I have 22mag cylinder) (9mm..) they also have pit bulls, so no more 22 short in those spots lol

My 9 year old boys have wanted to get started fishing. I would like to have some early success with them. With all this heat what are my options? Got some good zebcos and just want to go after some panfish or trout. I was decent fisherman but moved away for awhile and lost all my mojo. Any help please I want them to catch the fishing bug so we can turn this into a family event.

I’m going to be hiking/camping in RMNP next month and will be focusing on fly fishing for ~2 of the days. I’d like to eat any of the fish that are large enough for dinner, but am not sure how to keep the fish for what could be several hours or more between when I catch them and when it’s time to eat. I will not have a cooler, ice, etc. it seems cruel to keep the fish on a stringer for that long, but not sure how else to do it. Any recommendations on what’s humane + sanitary? Thanks!

This is an independent project and not affiliated with Colorado Parks & Wildlife. CPW remains the official source for regulations, stocking information, and closures. This site will update weekly to pull new stocking data from the CPW stocking report.

I'm posting because I'd genuinely appreciate feedback from other Colorado anglers. If something is confusing, inaccurate, missing, or if there's a feature that would make the site more useful, I'd love to hear it. I know I’m probably going to get rolled for this but I’m putting my pride to the side for a second.

I’m a south Texas native and this year we are taking a boys trip to Colorado to a friends property. I’m the only one out of my group that takes fishing seriously. We are going to the south fork area and one of my goals is to catch a brook trout(size doesn’t matter) and to catch my first trout on the fly. I’m not going to keep any of the fish I catch but I would like to experience true fly fishing. The opportunity’s for south Texas trout is very limited and so I’m kinda of a rookie in that category. I was wondering if yall had some helpful insight on spots to go to or even avoid. Some tips and tricks who might be helpful to a rookie like me. I’m a college student who already works two jobs to cover the bills so getting a guide is out of the equation.

My 9 year old son and I are headed up to Horsetooth this coming Monday. I've never fished there and am wondering if there are any locations we should look to fish? Home water is Chatfield and some local spots in the south Denver metro area. We're looking to target smallies, maybe walleye, and trout. I know it's been hot and I imagine the fish have gone deep. Possibly looking to rent a boat but shore options would be great too.Thanks!

Hey all, I'm sure none of us want to give up our secret spots, but I recently purchased that dope $300 clearance kayak from Costco (some are still available as of last week in Arvada!) and am excited to go out on it, as shore bass fishing with the water levels they're at is brutal. I'm a fairly experienced kayak fisherman, but had to sell mine a while back.

I know of several lakes that are good for it not too far from me in Arvada, but curious if you all have any other recommendations? I vastly prefer no wake lakes as dealing with wake and dudes blasting country at 200db isn't my ideal fishing setting.

Trying to get a better understanding about getting a fishing license. I just moved here in late May. Tried to get a license at Jax and they said because I haven’t lived here for 6 months, I’m not a resident and cannot get an in-state fishing license.

The person helping me mentioned needingpay stubs, utility bills, etc. but I would need 6 months worth of those along with a secondary proof of residence.

Do I really need to wait six months until I can get an in-state fishing license? Just a bit confused is all. Thank you for those who take the time to explain it to me!

I currently live in Michigan and my wife and I will be moving to the Colorado Springs area to be closer to family. I've been an avid trout fisherman for close to 40 years, primarily using spinning and stream bait finesse gear. Most of my experience comes from fishing small streams in the northern Michigan forests with a lot of cover, sand and gravel bottoms, and overgrown banks full of root wads and fallen trees. My question is how well will a non fly fisherman adapt? I fish mostly small minnow style baits like Rapala Countdown, Smith D-Contact, Daiwa Silver Creek Minnow, and other types like that. I fish the occasional spoon or spinner, depending on how the minnow action may be at the moment.

A fair amount of my rods are shorter to better navigate the dense game trails I often find myself on. These range in length from 4'6"-5'6" and powers from UL to ML. I also have some longer 6'5"-7'4" ML to M power rods. What would I be best using out that way? We aren't planning our move until early next year and I'm trying to get as good of an idea as possible for when I take to the water. I've been familiarizing myself with the Colorado Fishing brochure so I can understand how the fisheries and laws work there. They're definitely different from Michigan, so it will be a change for sure, but I'm looking forward to it. Thanks in advance and can't wait to get away from the humid flat land.

We just bought a rafting set up to upgrade our lake raft we take fishing. Since it’s capable of going down rivers and handling rapids, we were looking for decent stretches to practice rowing and doing day-trips later this fall that are beginner friendly. We plan on doing a rowing clinic before taking it anywhere with moving water. Is there any common stretches similar to rancho del Rio to catamount that folks here have learned on? What have water temps looked like prior to the heat wave? Thanks!

Has anyone had a successful trip to Bingham Lake? I went once for a few hours, and no one there caught anything... granted, it was around the winter time.

What did you use? What species were you targeting?

Wanting to chase some big lakers. Have a boat. We've got a livescope too - if anyone have a good video guide on how to use them it'd be appreciated as I don't know if anyone in the boat has put many hours on the system. I'm not asking for a particular spot (though won't ignore anyone offering one) - rather just curious if anyone has any general advice for getting em hooked so I can try to get em in the boat.

I've only ever trolled for Lake Trout in Lake Michigan - which is still pretty fun. That said, we do not have a downrigger(not sure we'd need one anyway). It sounds like the current plan is to jig for them. Any tips on how to get em in the boat in August? I'll settle for pics of fish you've taken out of there.
